I was lucky enough to hear Erika speak in person a couple of years ago at an ethics conference at Notre Dame. She spoke about how the Roe v. Wade ruling ruined how women are viewed in society, i.e., that the law started to treat us like defective men rather than people who are capable of bringing forth life. It was a fascinating lecture that still stays with me today. Looking forward to reading her book.

The Council of Trent on the duties of wives:
"To train their children in the practice of virtue and to pay particular attention to their domestic concerns should also be especial objects of their attention. The wife should love to remain at home, unless compelled by necessity to go out; and she should never presume to leave home without her husband’s consent."
Vatican II - Gaudium et Spes:
"The children, especially the younger among them, need the care of their mother at home. This domestic role of hers must be safely preserved, though the legitimate social progress of women should not be underrated on that account.”

Regarding the headship question, you have to listen to today's Acts XXIX Thoughts From the Trailer by Fr John Ricardo!!! Sheep in Wolf's Clothing. It's extraordinarily good.

Wow! This is so provocative. I'm not in agreement, but I truly appreciate the discussion.
A new dialectic is necessary. The challenge is to reignite Christendom. I will never use the word feminist. The word in and of itself is fundamentally in conflict with God's image of His people.
I think it's a big mistake to start with the feminist chosen words, as if women are oppressed or have been.
People are looking for truth. I disagree with her experiences as an argument for, as it seems anecdotal.
A little creativity? . I refuse to legitimize the secular dialogue by starting there. Look at Father Chad Ripperberg's comments.
People are seeking truth and beauty. The vision needs to be repackaged, as in marketing terms.
We are always in the defense. That must stop. No war is ever won on the defense.
I think a legal perspective is valuable, but perhaps a different perspective is pertinent and necessary.
I was taken aback at the description of her husband's alleged feminine traits. I disagree. Jesus was a very good listener and humble and highly masculine.
Virtues helps us explain manhood. Vir in Latin means man. I question the assumed premise.
Thank you for this wonderful candid discussion and her dedication and knowledge. I can't wait to read her book.

I don’t like “Catholic” and “Feminism” in the same sentence either. Feminism is evil and is responsible for female promiscuity, abortion, and so much chaos and evil in the world. Best if we look to “Femininity” instead.

Her interpretation of headship is word salad, all I got from it is that I see why she prefers to call herself a feminist.
