You guys need to do shows together more often. This was one of the funniest and most entertaining episodes to watch yet for both channels.

VDJ has better stems, it is native to almost every controller on the planet, it is constantly improving and innovating, it has been able to adjust key without the use of things like Mixed In Key, it can be used with VST instruments and audio plugins, and now offers streaming from your own cloud services like Dropbox and Googledrive, it can run more than four decks at once, it can handle the most audio and video formats, and it offers the most customizable mapping of any DJ software on the market. Not to mention it has become just as stable as any of its competitors. In the end, use what you enjoy using and fits your needs. We have reached a point where all the platforms are great and the computers now are light years ahead to be able to run them, unlike how it was a decade ago. For the record, I used to mix video back on VDJ over 10 years ago on a pc that only had 2 GB of ram and a basic dual core processor and VDJ never failed me. Nowadays, the computers are way over qualified to run any of these DJ programs and that’s a beautiful thing.

Some of the VDJ features were pretty good. Some, not so much. But honestly, weve been doing this for years without them.

I use both Serato and Virtual DJ. Serato for DVS and Virtual DJ for music videos with a controller. Serato is always the best when it comes to DVS. Virtual DJ is way better for music videos. Serato video has not been updated in a very long time.
The Vanced GT skin for VDJ needs to be talked about more. It’s a powerhouse skin that provides a clean aesthetic with lots of functionality.
Vanced GT is a very cool skin. It can be similar to any Serato software or Tractor or RecBox
Phil Morse is right--the name holds Virtual DJ back more than anything else.
I know a couple of VDJ jocks. It works fine, and for karaoke and video guys, it's probably the best choice. I got into Serato early, so I'm sticking with it. But there doesn't seem to be anything intrinsically wrong with VDJ *as a program.*
I love virtual DJ but use Serato because I want my parents to like me.

Serato library management sucks so bad. Djay has some cool new features, but not sure how useful they are. Additionally they don't support a lot of controllers and DJ equipment.
FYI on the Rev you can spilt hot cues and stems. Also the Rev 5 has stems on the pads sir. You double press slicer and BOOM stems!! Also has dedicated stems separation so you can use the sampler at the same damn time!!!
Considering trying VDJ again. Haven't used it since I tricked out my Denon MC3000 to work with Rane SL2..
The way Serato forces you to do the crates was a deal breaker for me. It is so much simplier in VDJ. What ever you folder structure is on your PC/MAC is what it will be in VDJ.
You can do the same thing in serato. Just name your crates the same way and use sub crates.
In VDJ it takes your folders by default there is no import, add a song to a folder it automatically recognizes it. No manual import at all!
@@ericmaillet5000 you can have serato do this as well. lol. it's called autoimport.

@_Stilo do you mean "high" lol I was a dj for 26yrs, last gigs year was 2015. Was one of the first to use Virtual DJ, I still use as a yard/community social interaction, such advancements making this the best software to me!

Virtual DJs for weddings all night
This is the best Dj podcast I have listened to/watched so far.
The ironic comments about bloat is that serato consumes more compute resourcing with less functionality.

I love vdj but serato interface is top notch. Great looking software and the audio and scratching sounds much better
I love virtual dj library search browser easier to find and locate songs
Trust me VDj video features are even crazy. You can mix live video and with live updating photos vdj monitors folders live its immense and if you dream of doing karaoke you can program then stuff you can even schedule ligint effects with the first dance basically the options are intense and weve had stems tears before Serato
Both software have pros and cons. I actually manipulated the software so I actually have serato and virtual running at the same time.
So many features you missed with virtual
Karaoke
Able to read serato crates
Installing your music faster once you have to dragon drop to your folder virtual if you have your hard drive organized correctly as soon as you start the program, your music library is already there saves a lot of time
Virtual, you can stream directly right from the software without third-party software for live streaming
I’ve had the software for years still never took it out on a live gig, but I do like the software
And never really took the time to learn it like I should have, but these are some bulletproof features that you missed
Especially in customizing a lot more within the settings of the program
Most important feature vdj is missing is the beat matching display. I can literally count how many times a night I pick up my headphones, using just the fingers on my hands. I have an unhealthy obsession with that feature and is an absolute deal breaker with all other dj softwares. I feel like it's the most understated feature of serato ever.
I was a Serato Junkie at one time but I finally got my s*^t straightened out and made the change, and never looked back!!

I use the broadcasting option for Shoutcast in VDJ that Serato doesn't have.
I play a lot of Bridgerton style instrumentals during ceremony prelude and actually prefer how serato doesn’t auto mix. If you’ve ever had a live instrumentalist during ceremony there’s a brief pause before a new song. I would like the auto mix feature while I step away for a few minutes to eat.
You two need to do shows together way more... do something on wolfmix and freaking lighting...Lots of laughs dudes.
Let’s normalize using VDJ. It shouldn’t be taboo thing anymore.
Automix is not the best description of this feature unless you just except the default transitions. I edit EVERY transition in Automix in advance. Every track that was given to me in advance is placed in an order that makes sense and then the blend/transition is tweaked to work pretty damn well. And yes, I will even do this for the late night tracks. Now, I may do something different on the fly on occasion.
VDJ can play any music format without analyzing it first. You can stream music at the same time from tidal and beatsource .in serato you have to close the tidal or beatsource streaming . You cannot use at the same time.
Rev % had the split stems before the Vdj . for what i understand. i got my Rev 5 in Nov 23 and it had the split stems than.

You forgot the most important one! Serato can't automatically read the folders on your harddrive, so you have to manually re-create them every time songs are added or reorganized. Big miss, especially if you use your harddrive with multiple software.

Personally … I did just make the switch from Serato to Virtual DJ.
I am a big fan of Virtual DJ. Stigma or no stigma, I love the bells and whistles Virtual DJ has to offer. Team Strawn on this one!

That request feature could be a nightmare. I take them, but I rarely invite them and when I do their running to me 15 seconds into opening the dance floor.
Serato Had split stems since the Rev 5 came out in Nov 23
1 MacBook Pro M2 Chip on my stand with VDJ playing & Mac Air M1 as backup.
I'll stick with rekordbox. Simply because I prefer using the software that's native to my controller vs. Trying to remap everything to work and figuring out in the middle of a gig that the last update changed mapping on something.

Nick have you seen or heard about issues with the Rev 5 and the latency issues or sound quality issues during a set. Also what Mac Book Pro would you recommend and specs for running stems efficiently. Thanks
VDJ has RB and Serato library and mappings already configured> Something no other software can do.
Hands down Virtual DJ is better I also own serato but Virtual dj is better even the choice to hit vocal accapela in stems which you CANT do in serato plus many effects in virtual kicks ass

start up race between two different computers is pointless because each computer is configured differently, and with different SSD and memory sticks that has different performances. Nick needed start up VDJ on his computer and compare it to Serato on the same computer.
Aaron Performance Mode is the closest skin that looks like Serato. VDJ can’t exactly copy the Serato GUI.
Basically VDJ is only great for videos in my opinion. I use it for all my karaoke shows and use the automix solely for when you call the next singer up and they take a minute to walk up using a slideshow on the monitors of the venue.
31:00 Serato skin on VDJ isn't about cosmetics, it's about familiarity for those Serato users who are curious and wanna try out VDJ but want to "feel at home", so they can glance at key functions on the screen and expect that function to be there. If that function isn't there, you would PANIC! Serato skin is just a reassurance for Serato savvy users.
Is there a way to mark songs played automatically once played in VDJ?

Sand box is for does song you normally dont play that is a request that you dont remember the whole song and need to find a place to get out, or you figure out a new wordplay because you haven't play that song in a while
