Hi! I'm going to La Spezia on one of the cruise stops. I really wanted to visit Cinque Terre. The ship arrives in La Spezia at 7 am and departs at 5 pm. I have some doubts: What is the best way to get from the port to the central station? Do you think I have time to visit the 5 villages? Do I need to buy a ticket for each leg or is there an unlimited ticket? If you were to choose 2 or 3 of the best places in Cinque Terre, which would you recommend? Thanks for all the tips!!

That is a lot to consider. What and how much you do is entirely dependent on your interests and ability. You can get to the train station from the port terminal by taxi in about 10 minutes. Depending on the train departure time, you can be in Monterosso - the farthest of the villages - in about 50 minutes. I believe that is your best bet. Get a round trip ticket to Monterosso. Go straight there. There is a lovely little town to the south of the station. It is a lovely walk through a tunnel, but not too far. From there, you can make your way back, stopping at the different villages along the way. You do not need to buy a ticket to each town if you get the round trip to and from Monterosso. As you are there, you can see how much time you have to visit the villages. Vernazza has a nice tower you can climb. Not too high, but a nice experience. The Castello Doria. Getting there is a climb, as well. Corniglia is very cool, but just to get to the village, there is a long, winding stair from the train station. Lovely village, but take the climbing into consideration for effort and time. Manarola is another lovely village with a nice path along a cliff (not scary) to see the views.
Another consideration is to get the one way ticket to Monterosso, pick one village to visit on the way there, then take the boat back to Riomaggiore to see all the villages from the water. Then take the train from Riomaggiore to La Spezia. You’ll have to get the ticket when you leave Riomaggiore.
I hope you have a chance to visit, the villages are all lovely.

You only need to validate it when you buy it. We stopped at the other villages on our way to Monterosso and didn’t have to validate it again as it is good for 6 hours. We then purchased a return ticket and then had to validate that one before getting on the train back to La Spezia. Enjoy your trip!
