I’m so sorry this happened while you were away! 😢 I’m glad I could be there before anything got really bad and we lost more and I’m so happy to hear there was a silver lining with the Anubias. They definitely prefer lower light. Fingers crossed we got ontop of it and no more issues from here on out!
Thank you so much ❤️ You seriously did such an amazing job at handling it, I appreciate you sooooo much 🥹🙏🏼 And yes the Anubias was definitely a silver lining 🤣
Thanks for watching guys, and sorry about this downer. Should I get some more for my tank? And what would your thoughts be on having a Fish Vet come on to talk about fish dying/illness in a future video? Let me know!
Hey Kaity I commented if you can find it. If not, I have three peacocks I’d be willing to give you since they will eventually outgrow my 182 litre. They’re still probably are still around 5-7cm though so I’m not sure if you’d want them, but they’re available for you for free :)
Anything that can educate us as fishkeeps is always a bonus, would also be interesting to hear the fish experts opinions on whether you need to do a big water change/treatment after finding a dead fish in the tank. Ive had it happen before where a fish has died and got lodged under some driftwood etc and by the time id noticed it it was well decomposed / eaten. I always remember hearing if a fish died of natural causes it may be picked at by others but if it dies and the body remains untouched its a bad sign. The only thing i know is bad for sure is that smell when you remove one that been in there a while !
I’m sorry for your loss. I’m using the reliable Schego titanium heater with Inkbird ITC-306A WiFi equipped with two aquarium probes (for higher degree of redundancy), so any abnormal temperature will be alarmed on my mobile anywhere I’m in the world.
Your plea for subscribers at the end of the video was so sincere that I had to subscribe. Yes, I was one of those who watched without subscribing. Thank you for always having great content Kaity.
Oh no! As a newer fish keeper this was a good reminder that even if we do everything right our equipment can fail us. Ya know, I never stopped to think I would need a shovel as part of the hobby! It's going on my list as well as a back up heater & filter! Thank you Kaity!
@@Kaityscichlids I'll always watch to the end, like and comment! We have to get you to 100,000 subs! So I have to mention, I was watching Nick Lewis (He's an interior designer) and a week or two back he was saying he makes the most money off of his Amazon links. I got the impression that if, say I click on your link for a fish net you get not just a tiny credit for the net itself but everything I order in that order, like toothpaste or toilet paper too?! Double check because I'm a fool! lol But if I understood him correctly maybe we need links for bird supplies and film equipment too! $$$$ I can't wait to see Kaity's Australian Fish Farm and Aviary one day!
Sorry to hear about your fish! High temperatures can be rough; in addition to increasing the activity level of the fish, warm water holds less oxygen than cooler water so it's a bit of a perfect storm that can lead to more losses. I wonder if you've considered using heaters with built-in thermostats as well as your heater controller? You could set the heaters' thermostats to, say, 28°C but have the heater controller set at your regular temp (26°-ish). That way, even if the heater controller goes rogue and tries to boil your tank, the thermostats on the heaters would shut off at 28° as a sort of fail-safe.
Hi Kaity. So sorry about your fish. Thankfully you had experienced people taking care of them. It could have been so much worse of an outcome! Laila is adorable and love her name lol I had a Husky mix named Layla. She was so sweet☺️

Mate remember your a amateur fish keeper and your friends are conditioned to the aquarium world .... ive been doing tanganyika for 35 years water change twice a year just top up dehydration... fish are extremely healthy and breed well.... personally i think thrs to much hype to push products and i get it... yes i use to be like yourself but finally realised after many years 3/4 of what you do to perimeters of a tank is not needed... keep your filters maintained once every few months maintaining bacteria media within full clean out ..... rest is all about selling a product $$$$ one day you'll wake up and realise
Why freshwater fish? Saltwater fish are better.
But they need salt!!
Hey Katie ❤️ u just wanted to tell you I’m so much more comfortable touching my fish now lol I kinda grab them and let them swim through my fingers and when i do water changes I gently lift them out the water and let them swim back in lol a couple are still skittish but it’s fun lol
Awwww, that is awesome!! Well done, they can learn to be so friendly! 🐟🐟
@@Kaityscichlids I love my babies 🥺
