  • Roberts Elementary shows off their health and fitness with a video entry into the 2012 Governor's Wellness Challenge.
    Gov. Rick Scott and his wife, Ann, are inviting all Florida public and private schools to participate in the inaugural Governor's Wellness Challenge.
    They also are asking students, parents, teachers and principals to nominate full-time physical education teachers for the Physical Education Teacher of Excellence Award.
    The challenge will recognize schools making a positive difference in the lives of students by promoting fitness, wellness and a healthier lifestyle.
    Winning schools and teachers will be invited to attend a ceremony with the Scotts in the spring. The challenge is supported by Florida's Foundation and United Healthcare.
    The schools' challenge is open to all public and private elementary, middle and high schools in Florida. Two schools in each category will be selected. Winners will be selected by a panel of school district representatives and wellness advocates throughout the state. The winners will receive receive $2,500 to purchase fitness equipment for their schools.
    The Governor's Physical Education Teachers of Excellence Award contest is open to all full-time physical education teachers in a public or private elementary, middle or high school statewide.
    Three educators will be selected: one elementary, one middle and one high school. Each winner will receive a check for $1,500.

    Video entries and educator nominations must be mailed to: Florida's Foundation, 111 N. Gadsden Street, Suite 100, Tallahassee, FL 32301.
    All entries must be received by 5:00 p.m. on April 15, 2012.
