In April 2017 I saw an awesome sale at Home Depot and bought a 5 cu ft Magic Chef chest freezer and a 10 cu ft GE chest freezer. They stayed in their boxes until August 2020. I just put them in service to test my battery backup. The Magic Chef has a temperature control and two lights on the panel. The red light is for Power. The green light says Run. From 30 feet away I can see if the compressor is running or not. What a great feature! The running watts are 63w to 65w. I will check watt hours in a week and see an average. The freezers are in an unheated and uncooled work shop and the temperature in there varies. I'm sure it will affect cycle time. Thanks for a great review.

Great video content. We bought the wireless thermometer as well. It has helped to know when the temp dips below optimal cooling. Thanks for the comparison between the two freezers.

No. You will have to test it. For me, I leave on max. The colder, the better and its cooler than 0 degrees.

Just bought an artic king..... I would've paid a little extra to have a power light in the freezer though.
    Thanks for the video.

Very helpful!! The information about using your portable power was especially important for me. I greatly appreciate your content!
I'm curious about how much solar power you would use to keep your portable power running? I recently bought a 100W solar panel for this purpose and would like to figure out if it's sufficient to keep my 1100 solar portable power charged.
I bought the solar panel thinking it was going to be charging the portable power to keep a 12V camping style cooler/freezer running in an emergency.

I have a video series you can watch which will teach you how to manage the power.

Does this plug into a regular outlet or need a high amp rated dedicated outlet like a regular refrigerator?

I have it plugged into normal outlet, but the surge watts are as high as some refrigerators.

No idea what you are talking about.

A regular freezer is designed to work within a smaller temperature range in a controlled interior environment, like a house. Garage ready freezers are equipped to handle a larger fluctuation of external temperatures, with a range of 0-110°F.
This room for fluctuation allows you to place your freezer in the garage in the summer and throughout the winter and worry less about whether or not it may be able to handle harsh temperatures.

...And for meat and lots of other things. Did you even watch the video? Because we live so far from a store, we stock up on things so we dont have to go so often. It is for emergency food storage as well.

This freezer does not tell, if it is running or not running. No indicator light on it, so this makes you nervous if food will go bad or what.

Put a thermometer in it. I use a wireless one. See my review on it.
