Best lorry gearbox ever made. Clutch to pull away then just lift your foot of the throttle to shift and to split. These modern automatic boxes are for wankers .... This was a proper gearbox that sorted the men from the boys. Well shifted too mate.
If you ever get in strife with an "auto" box . You do not know how to use one. Ask a bloke who has been taught properly how to use one & they will teach you. Just like my ol man did with a constant mesh twin split , Brown two spd axle etc when I was 16 . Our old ways are gone now.. My 13 yr old daughter taught me how to use an iphone ffs.. switch off the " I know better" mode whenever a driver trainer rocks up ... The old days are looong gone. Nobody needs to know it ... cos its old tech . How many train drivers can drive a steam train ?. Just accept it .. arguing the toss makes us old blokes look dumb. Remember old times all you want... just quit with the insults ... cos they can be easily turned on you the old dinosaur who dont know how to work an automated box.
He's pretty slick with the twinspitter I had an ERF big cam 350 hp for 8 years and did 700000 KLM with it still the best gearbox ever made most modern drivers today would be lost on one .
I thought this would be obvious, but it appears that some people are missing the point, he doesn't normally drive like that, he is demonstrating how fast you can change gear in a Twinsplitter. I had just converted the box to overdrive........... If it pleases people I will put a another video on of him driving really smooth.
Wish I knew how to use an Twinsplitter. Only manual I've ever driven was a '56 plate DAF CF with a 16-speed ZF gearbox, smooth as hell when done right, which I'm told is child's play. Then again, never driven a Foden or an ERF so far. This shifting is badass, not a single drop on the clutch. So cool!
Twinsplitters are not that hard really - it’s actually easier to change without using the clutch. You don’t need to change gear this quick - changing down going up a bank when the engine is loosing power is the only time you need a fast down change.
Good gear change, I remember the first time I drove a twin splitter 18yrs ago.... I made a rite tit of my self as time passed it was and is the best box.......you can stick the I shift etcetc
I drove an ERF e10 and e14 with a twin splitter for five years. They were such a nice gearbox it was a pleasure to drive. This guy can drive it so fair play. Racist comments on this video show your ignorance guys. Go back to your caves.
My first artic was a three step E14 big cam with twin splitter 380bhp then was sent to Cummins in West Brom amazing people there!! It would hold its own with any scania 143 both top trucks and I would still rather drive these than the boring uncharacteristic trucks of today
My old EC14 410hp .. used to romp over wigglesworths 164 . But if you are a day driver I hear ya .. but tramping ... the old girls do not hold a candle to the comfort of modern motors.
R D he is good but the whole point of the transmission was to reduce lever movements and lift off the throttle to allow the change was how Eaton taught you. This way is fast but kinda defeating the object
Great gearbox in the day . In over 30 yrs of driving I have had a few . But for everybody whining about automated boxes ... you are not using them correctly . It is nothing like the auto in your car with a Torque converter. It is a manual box .. with a clutch .. with a box of tricks nailed on top. In certain situations you need to use manual mode ... oh btw the twin split in essence is a semi auto as you only need to dip the clutch starting off and stopping.
When you first started driving an eaton twin splitter, you found it had 12 gears and a 1000 neutrals of which the neutrals were easier to find than the gears. I drove them for years and would never have used every single gear to go through the box unladen, what a waste of fuel
alanmc66 love the Tx sound will try an do a video when she got 25 ton on her - obviously she won't accelerate as fast but the sound will be better and the actual gear changes will be just as quick :-)
I drove a Constructor with Rolls 265 which obviously became the TX range when Perkins took over, loved that engine, was never a big Cummins lover I liked the Eagle Diesels
Thanks Alan would like to post another video of Zeb driving more conventional and he can :-) do love the sound of a Tx under load equals a sound of Cummins ..... in my opinion ..
I've had the pleasure of driving quite a few of these over the years, and has already been said on here, they are simply the best gearbox ever, these modernised automatic boxes are a pile of shite! The only problem with them, is when they get abused by Muppets who end up with the gears being stripped, simply because they haven't been either shown or taught how to use the box. I used to drive tanker's, and one of my motors that I drove had the Eaton twin-splitter in it, and they were a breeze to use, they allowed you far more control over the tank, even when I had a full 26 ton's of liquid sloshing around inside the tank. These modernised automatic boxes are terrible for tanker work, especially those without baffles, having the box jumping up and down whilst trying to pull away soon turns the air blue inside the cab! Having to use manual kind of defeats the whole idea of it being an automatic box... I do admit that I have no idea what the latest generation is like, having been out of the cab for nearly ten years, so who knows, they may be a lot better, but I know what I'd rather use any day of the week! 😁
I would love to see you try that 38 ton for 10 hours in town granted it's a lovely gear box a pig to learn on but times have moved on a modern auto box is more fuel efficient and a hell of a lot easier in town or heavy traffic and yes i passed my test when auto boxes were just a dream in some engineers head.

Exactly!
Sweet mate. Good to see somebody who knows how to use every gear without grinding those cogs. Respect
Nicely done sir. I used to fetch many trucks in for service with the twin splitter. Was the last course I went on for ERF in 2002. Fantastic box
Used to drive an eight weeler erf e14 365 with the eaton twin splitter at Walter Smith groby and was the best truck I ever drove.

@@timbotrucker I'd love to find out myself one day. Really appreciate the advice. Still picking it all up in the grand scheme of things
Brilliant Shifting! No idea how jealous I am of you being able to road test something like that! Feck your I shift and Opti cruise Boxes!
A driver's gearbox. Not like this modern automated shit.
I'm currently lumbered with ZF's Clumsytronic in a TGX. It's fucking awful.......
For any of the old negative people on here, my grandad drove trucks in the 1930s and he thinks you are a bunch of big girls.
I had a twin splitter when I worked for morrisons years ago. A git to get used to but great once you knew how to use it.
Quicker and smoother shifts than any truck autobox out there.. Unbelievable shifting
Thanks Baal
Good gear change, I remember the first time I drove a twin splitter 18yrs ago.... I made a rite tit of my self as time passed it was and is the best box.......you can stick the I shift etcetc
oh mate good god when paired up with a cummins the false neutrals become a way of life lol.
Box of a thousand neutrals......infinately better than the autoshite we have now........so miss playing tricks with them at roundabouts and juctions😄😄

amen
Loved the twin split! def fave gear box, used to leave the boy racers for dust!! nice work mate
I remember a DAF 95 with that box, when empty, that cab could rock when shifted like this..:-)
Loved driving my uncles Man.26.361 F8 with the 12 speed box. Awesome
Respect brother. Ignore the hate. You are a pro....
Foden a mans Truck you was lucky to have one before Daf killed them off
My first artic was a three step E14 big cam with twin splitter 380bhp then was sent to Cummins in West Brom amazing people there!! It would hold its own with any scania 143 both top trucks and I would still rather drive these than the boring uncharacteristic trucks of today

nice to see another driver has more advanced skills than the usual "just take your foot of the accelerator types" .
R D he is good but the whole point of the transmission was to reduce lever movements and lift off the throttle to allow the change was how Eaton taught you.

@@bigrigger3762 Eggs aker lee that .
The guy can drive!
Listening to the box he couldn't drive sheep down the side of a mountain with a fucking big stick!!
What's your problems with that video people? I drove the same for many years, he drives it just as I did. I can see no problems, well driven matey.

Sweet mate. Not a single crunch from the gearbox.
Nice box in a IVECO Euro tech Euro star with 10 bar air pressure problem on a cummins PT injector engine with 7 bar working pressure
Obviously bunny splitting gears, excellent gearbox in my ERF
La "boite de vitesses " par excellence
I love that box.

Great stuff, and bostin sounding TX shame you couldnt post some more videos

Kinn ell mate I started off in the the Derbyshire quarries on FODENS I can see how good you are.
Pulling a load or racing at brands hatch? Sweet changes tho

I BET YOU COULD PLAY A TUNE ON THAT. TOP MAN
Sure Can Beverly
This Guy obviously knows Eaton Twin Splitter inside out.
As a child I gre up with erf . I did this sat on the engine with me left arm....
So me dad told me
Why rive the stick backwards and forwards, just select the button, let the reves off and let it do its thing???
u have 2 try 190 f 35 iveco dude ;)
Give me this box on a tipper any day the new auto boxes are shite and all the electronics that come with them crap
Is it Foden?
Yeah Foden 4000 Series (Cable gear change)
On a serious note that pulls like fuck I can hear it it boosting all the time
Spot on there, waste gate is jacked shut on the turbo.
You are too fast my friend try to be slow we wait to know how you are doing it. Or shifting your twin gears coz I can't see anything think you

Cool as fuck , get on i couldn't shift that fast wi mine 👌🤢
No respect for that gearbox bet he don't treat his own vehicle like that
Ever driven an Eaton Twin Splitter?
