I’m pretty sure there was no accident. I remember an NPC saying the ship was deliberately sunk to create an artificial reef for Pokémon. It’s also named the S.S. Cactus, according to another NPC. The reason so many holes exist is probably due to explosives being used to crack the hull. But yes, this was one of the coolest places as a kid. I always loved being an urban explorer on a partially sunken ship
Another place I loved in Hoenn was Shoal Cave. How it is really far out, almost at the border of Hoenn. How it obviously changes depending on the water level. And how, despite it being a dark damp cave, still feels somehow homey
The creepiest part of Shoal Cave for me was accessing the bottom level where the ice Pokémon are at since it defies all logic how that area can be where it is without the Pokémon inside drowning at high tide, just sayin’.
I missed out on this area as a kid. Not because I didn’t know the about the ship, but because on the playground a kid at school wanted to swap his Gorebyss with a Huntail to fill his Pokédex, but I didn’t have either Clamperl item yet, so he just took my GBA and cleared the ship by the end of recess and did the trade himself…

Specially because it's reused on Eon Island, Faraway Island, and the other ones where the other legendaries appear and since I first played Emerald on an emulator, I used codes to enter there and being a kid I didn't know how to leave said islands by deactivating the codes until I reloaded the savestate. There's something eerie about the Abandoned Ship being replaced by Sea Mauville in the remake. It's as though the spot itself is cursed, and whatever is in that place is doomed to be wrecked. Almost like a Pokemon equivalence to the Bermuda Triangle.
i heard that it was scuttled to make a habitat for wild pokemon.. but it also looks like something from a metal gear game. the final battle with big boss in zanzibar land mixed with the frigate that ships arsenal gear.
@@GatorEX Honestly that's what I want to think. The Let's Go games could've at least hinted at what region the ship was going to (might've been Alola cause Mina apparently missed her ship or something, I forget)
The ship's anime equivalent, the St. Anne, sank not long after leaving Vermilion, so you could be right. I used to wonder if the Abandoned Ship could be the S.S. Anne, but that doesn't really work because the events of Gen 1 and Gen 3 are meant to happen at the same time.
They need to bring back these sprite-based games. Like, launch them aside the 3D games so we can get two perspectives of the same region. Would be really cool.
Unlikely, Pokemon is trying to reach the biggest audience possible. A sprite based game would make older fans and retro gamers happy, but not the current generation of kids or teens or many casual gamers. I would love to see an actually graphically pleasing 3D game for once. The switch games are just really badly executed in terms of graphics and environments
I think the reason they removed the abandoned ship is because around the time ORAS were being made the costa concordia disaster happened. I think they didn't want to risk media attention from from ignorant people.
Maybe, but it could also be that Masuda is obsessed with removing any darker elements from the Pokemon world, and usually I don't take the side of the weirdo edgelords that want M-rated Pokemon, but he seems hellbent on making the games as saccharine as possible
@@ChangedMyNameFinally69 >Maybe, but it could also be that Masuda is obsessed with removing any darker elements from the Pokemon world Better not look at many of the Pokedex entries or the obligatory ghost encounters.

@@BJGvideos Ever worked at Amazon? A ship crashing that was turned into a nature reserve instead of being scavenged is already cool enough, I don't see why they felt the need to add more story to it. They also tried to connect it to New Mauville but that was always one of the stupidest story elements from the original games, they should've just made it Mauville's Power Plant or something. It doesn't exactly look like a city. That place only exists so you can get an extra TM from Watson and so you can catch Magnemite and Voltorb, that could've just been available on the same Route you get Plusle/Minun and Electrike on. Not the hugest fan of how they changed Mauville either.
ORAS is one of my favourite games, but I was always a little disappointed that they replaced the Abandoned Ship with Sea Mauville. The idea of exploring a shipwreck is way more exciting to me and I would have loved to see that in 3D.
Yup, one of the many changes I dislike about ORAS. They just made it lame, like they felt the need to explain sunken ship wrecks as if those don't exist IRL. And they connected it to the New Mauville lore when that was always a weird half-baked idea. Ew you actually like ORAS?
@@silentopinion Some other people think it was because of the Costa Concordia disaster and I can believe that because Game Freak has been paranoid about accidentally causing controversy since the 90s, but they also were really trying to downplay how dark the games are. Despite the backstory of Sea Mauville involving Pokemon experimentation it feels more sanitized over a sunken ship whose crew and passengers were presumably all killed. And the backstory literally being spelled out for you in letters and notes as well as the comically evil rules workers have to follow really kills any eerie atmosphere. The remakes have this problem in general where they really defanged Hoenn that was already a pretty tame region in comparison to Kanto and Johto, see how they made Aqua and Magma a bunch of silly buffoons and turned Tabitha into a nerd and Courtney into some weird yandere fetish, Magma in general got the worst of it. Aqua didn't fare much better with how Archie's just some dumb himbo that wants to wrestle a fish and Matt is some oaf, only Shelley stayed somewhat the same. It's weird people love ORAS but hate SWSH and ScVi for making the evil teams wimpy when ORAS really ruined Hoenn's atmosphere and made everything too goofy, they also did it to the rivals and some Gym Leaders.
I never saw it as terrifying at all, mostly because of it filled with other trainers treating it as a tourist spot. If it was empty then it would be a different story.

If they're going to bring back flying in the DLC, they can bring back diving as well. Maybe if we're lucky they'll bring it back in the future. One can only hope!

There's something eerie about the Abandoned Ship being replaced by Sea Mauville in the remake. It's as though the spot itself is cursed, and whatever is in that place is doomed to be wrecked. Almost like a Pokemon equivalence to the Bermuda Triangle.
They should include that in the next hoenn remake
This place has one of my favourite themes in the series. Faraway Island also having this theme is similarly perfect.
I remember seeing this in the Anime. It had a abandoned Marshstomp. It had a creepy vibe for a Pokemon episode.
As a kid, I remembering foaming at the mouth to get surf and check out that abandoned ship!
One of the most sad and unique themes in all of Pokémon.
i heard that it was scuttled to make a habitat for wild pokemon.. but it also looks like something from a metal gear game. the final battle with big boss in zanzibar land mixed with the frigate that ships arsenal gear.
ngl im suprised there where no ghost pokemon floatin around here
I'm far more curious what happened to the S.S. Anne, cause it's never seen or heard of again after Gen 1, I'm convinced the ship sunk
Well, that one’s anime counterpart sank, so honestly a good assumption 🤔
@@GatorEX Honestly that's what I want to think.
The Let's Go games could've at least hinted at what region the ship was going to (might've been Alola cause Mina apparently missed her ship or something, I forget)
The ship's anime equivalent, the St. Anne, sank not long after leaving Vermilion, so you could be right. I used to wonder if the Abandoned Ship could be the S.S. Anne, but that doesn't really work because the events of Gen 1 and Gen 3 are meant to happen at the same time.
Abandoned Ship isn’t the SS Anne; it’s called the SS Cactus, based on some stuff you find as you explore the ship.
They don’t make explorable places like this in newer Pokemon games anymore. You can only see them from a distance. 😒
I wonder how many people perished
In the anime at least, they mention there were no casualties, not sure about the game, though. Now when it comes to Sea Mauville 💀
I'm not 100% sure but I believe the ship's name is the SS Cactus.
They need to bring back these sprite-based games. Like, launch them aside the 3D games so we can get two perspectives of the same region. Would be really cool.
They could have made Scarlet a retro-like sprite-based game and Violet in the newer 3D style. Seems fitting to me
3d was never the issue. Plenty beautiful 3d games with their own atmosphere
@@nicnac2dI hope they never make a sprite game again because of people like you
Unlikely, Pokemon is trying to reach the biggest audience possible. A sprite based game would make older fans and retro gamers happy, but not the current generation of kids or teens or many casual gamers. I would love to see an actually graphically pleasing 3D game for once. The switch games are just really badly executed in terms of graphics and environments
@@ChangedMyNameFinally69 Geez, who hurt you? People are allowed to like different graphic styles. Relax.
@@ChangedMyNameFinally69
>Maybe, but it could also be that Masuda is obsessed with removing any darker elements from the Pokemon world
Better not look at many of the Pokedex entries or the obligatory ghost encounters.
@@D8W2P4 The ghost encounters got a little too overexplained past Gen 4. Gen 6 definitely had the best one in general. There's still dark stuff in the games and the PokeDex entries can get dark but the world itself doesn't feel as mean and scary as it used to I think. Mainly my beef was with ORAS here, they made Aqua/Magma into a bunch of goofy idiots too
I always interpeted the abandoned ship as the pokemon version of titanic
Today I learned that Mechanophobia is a word.
There is a phobia for just about everything
@@A7o36pr that I know. I was talking about the word itself
@@MatiNuva1724 No need to infophobic. Not a real word, but I'm too lazy to look up the real one.
@@A7o36pr kind of a mood
0:48 I could see that LOL
I cannot wait for a deep dive (no pun intended but accepted just the same) on Sea Mauville because that place is CREEPY. I also feel like whatever bizarre organization was behind it had to be the group that Archie and Maxie were in before they split. And oh god I feel so awful for Cozmo, which is something I never thought I would!
It wasn't creepy though? They just abandoned the project because it didn't turn out very successful, the only eerie thing was that Spiritomb was watching them but it's not a creepy Pokemon
@@ChangedMyNameFinally69 Did you read the notes about that place? They basically ran a cult out of there.
@@BJGvideosNah just a satire of corrupt scummy businesses, there's no religious language, just talks about unions being evil or not getting overtime pay.
@@ChangedMyNameFinally69 They had an oath and all that.
@@BJGvideos Ever worked at Amazon? Tbf I just dislike this remake in general, but I really wasn't a fan of this change in particular, feels like they wanted to overexplain something that should've been mysterious and made it kinda lamer as a result.
I remember there was an an internet rumor, based off of absolutely nothing, saying that the Abandoned Ship was the SS Anne
swampert is goated
ORAS is one of my favourite games, but I was always a little disappointed that they replaced the Abandoned Ship with Sea Mauville. The idea of exploring a shipwreck is way more exciting to me and I would have loved to see that in 3D.
Yup, one of the many changes I dislike about ORAS. They just made it lame, like they felt the need to explain sunken ship wrecks as if those don't exist IRL. And they connected it to the New Mauville lore when that was always a weird half-baked idea.
Ew you actually like ORAS?
I thought I was the only one who didn't like that. Shipwrecks are more interesting than abandoned buildings, imo.
Imagine a Pokemon game where you have to fight the 5 titanic submarine dwellers(4 elite fours & 1 elite champion)
I thought the holes in the ship were spikes when I was younger.
I love these episodes exploring different parts of the games
I never saw it as terrifying at all, mostly because of it filled with other trainers treating it as a tourist spot. If it was empty then it would be a different story.
I never thought this was creepy when I played the game.
I always came here to grab ice beam before the flying gym
When I first played gen 3 I was curious on what's on this ship. And was not disappointed
Missed opportunity to put a rare catchable pokemon on the ship.
I freaking love the theme of Abandoned Ship/ Sea Mavil
Looking forward to the Sea Mauville video!
I miss going for deep dives in the pokemon games. I wish they had that in modern pokemon. Why they removed that feature, I'll never know. I love exploring the world of pokemon. It's interesting to see the under water habitats of pokemon, and to see what kind of pokemon live in what area. I wish they'd bring back diving in pokemon. If they're going to bring back flying in the DLC, they can bring back diving as well. Maybe if we're lucky they'll bring it back in the future. One can only hope!
SuMo had cool little things like this, it's only the last two gens that removed them but PLA and even SwSh to some degree had mysterious areas like the Gigantamax tree or the church
Miss these type of areas and puzzles. 😢 sword, Shield, Scarlet and Violet would never.
Area Zero had an even creepier tone and lore. Or do you mean puzzles?
@@BJGvideos meant more like puzzles.
It was quite a interesting place to explore back in the day.
Speaking of Pokemon shipwrecks… can we get some love for SS Libra in here??
Shame Pokemon Company didn't take advantage of the 3d space of Legends to let you discover litwicks otherworld.
Title: The Shipwreck is Terrifying
Video: It’s not scary.
I always assumed the holes were water damage
Always thought of Kyogre when seeing the holes on the deck
It doesnt feel terrifying unless its haunted by a ghost like that one mansion from Sinnoh.
Still holding out hope that we'll eventually get R/S/E on the Switch virtual console so we can re-experience things like the abandoned ship
Remember the lady in the sun and moon demo that got on the cruise ship? That ship crashed in hoenn. Thats my theory.
It’s like the new less scary version of Lavender Town… gosh that music still creeps me out, and the original from green version is the worst!
I actually just got done doing sea mauville in my replay of omega ruby before this was uploaded
I never found it creepy. I always thought it was the S.S. Anne after some accident it had that was never explained to me.
At least that's what I thought as a kid.
I didn't understand why Pokémon’s Abandoned Ship is TERRIFYING
How did i not know this even existed?
It's really hard for someone to not notice it, congratulations you are a really weird person
2:58
Is that Mallow from sun and moon?
I forgot about this.
It's quite cool, though I didn't explore it much.
Yeah, the Abandoned Ship is nice. But everyone knows that the #1, hands-down best location in any video game ever is the Cabana in Wind Waker.
You didn't catch the hints then? All the people on the abandoned ship is actually ghosts.
Was this the one with the Cloyster and Onix couple? Or was that a different ship?
This is nothing compared to ecco the dolphin
I have submechaphobia
What an awesome video man.
On the oldest generation you need to explorer to get the scanner and trade for rare items
On new generation all npc give you items and you need to pay to get all Pokémon
Can you do New Mauville next?
Maybe all npc are ghost
Can you do a video on the Battle Resort Masters from ORAS?
I give this video a 7/10, too much water
Wahey top ten Pokémon ships is real
Subbing for the content and the great narrator voice!
Why don’t I remember sea mauville I played omega ruby so much
an abandoned ship being terryfying... Sorry, you force me to mention Jojo's Bizarre adventure
small ship
I never got spooked out by this segment of the game if anything I was more anticipating encountering a legendary or rare pokemon because of the music if anything new mauvile held more anxiety for me but only because of the hoopa ring imagen your under water then you see a weird ring floating in front of you when you go examine it a fucking lugia comes flying right in your face (I know the thing is supposed to be a guardian of the sea but still it looks terrifying)
Lol I also name my character Kira
Make the video for sea mauville
