@@HowtoAutomotive hi I have a 2006 honda pilot to do this procedure does the truck needs to be on nutrol or parking ? Can it be in the lift in the air with car jack
Hey man, just wanted to say thank you. I appreciate you sharing your years of knowledge to us for free. Also, thanks for saving me a couple hundred bucks. Hope you're doing well!
If I was looking to hire a mechanic, this guy would be my first choice. Incredibly knowledgeable, efficient, methodical and articulate. Amazing video which even I could follow! Thanks so much.
Your video is probably the most useful one out there, there is no dilly dally like others. You are right to the point and i like that! Thank you for such as great tutorial video, without the BS
Hey Brian, Thanks for the Outstanding video! I followed your instructions, took my time and completed the job. It was scary and rewarding at the same time. Thanks for including pictures of the manual, it made very clear and precise.
On my 2007 Pilot, fuel injector #4 is not firing or pulsing. Changed out that injector with a Honda injector. Still not firing correctly. It starts up but the display shows the icon flashing. The slight shaking & lost of power is there. Then changed out all 6 connectors as they crumbled with heat & age when pulled out. Added 6 new Denso Iridium spark plugs. Changed out the manifold gasket & O-rings on the other injectors that are good. Still misfiring but running smoother now while idling. Does my Pilot need a valve adjustment?
Hey Brian I was replacing the timing belt in my 2003 honda pilot and had the timing covers off and was turning the engine to get everything at TDC but didn't realize I had taken the timing belt tensioner bolt loose mistaken them for timing cover bolts so when I turned the crank there was no tension on the timing belt. So do I have to get to the valves now to make sure none got bent ?
Good video and commentary. I did my Odyssey a couple years ago, it isn't the easiest job getting that rear cover back on without learning a new vocabulary. Setting the valves was hard enough, then dealing with that wiring harness was a bear. Did you use any black RTV in the sharp corners of the rear rocker cover in the center of the head on the passenger side?
I feel your pain, the rear exhaust valves and the cover was not as easy as they say, I got bruises on my chest to prove it. Do not use anything on the valve cover seal it will cause it to leak.
I just did mine and when starting, the engine is very noisy and ticks quite loud now. Anything I should check before tearing apart? I checked the timing belt marks and everything still seems lined up correctly at TDC.
@@HowtoAutomotive So I think I figured out the issue. I tore it back apart last night and I think I misread TDC at #2 and #5 when looking at the mirror through the timing belt cover. Both seemed really loose. I'll be readjusting today now that it's had time to cool overnight. Doh! Fingers crossed! I'm planning to do them all in the firing order so there's no mistake which one is which. Firing order should be 1-4-2-5-3-6.
@@jmo2321 Yeah once you get the hang of adjusting valves it’s not a big deal but sometimes you have to go through this a couple times.. Hopefully everything goes well on the second round. Wishing you luck.
Got a question: i know you can adjust valves 4-5&6 with the head off the car by rotating the cam so the numbers line up with the timing mark(make sure head has blocks of wood under each end so valves dont hit anything) But... if I carefully transfer the marks to the back cam can i also adjust the back head while its off the car? And then recheck everything (as if i was adjusting valves) after the heads are torqued?? 😊😊😊 Not trying to save time But trying to make it easier where possible 😎 BEST VALVE ADJUSTMENT VID BY THE WAY👍👍👍
Well done Brian, looks like you filming with a phone. I see you turned it sideways and then vertical , if you film vertical you get the black bars. Keep at it buddy. 👍👍
I used your video to perform this job on Saturday. It took me 12 hrs. Your video was very helpful. As soon as I finished my engine light went away. However, I do notice the engine is a bit louder. I can hear the ticking in the engine. Not sure if this is a problem since I feel the idling is even better than before. No hesitation at all. Just the loud engine is my concern. Any thoughts? Thanks.
I'd been waiting to see someone post a video on this. Thanks I think I speak for many when I say good walk through.
MrDinguskon glad to help. Thank you for writing and watching!!

Another Excellent How-To from Brian! Thank you, Brian, we appreciate you!
Thank you for watching!
Great video! Great tips and love the links for the parts. Will be doing one this weekend.

Very good explanation the hardest part is that back harness and the actual adjustment of the valves
thanking you for making a video. It boosted my confidence because now I know what to expect and tools I'll be needing.

Outstanding demonstration and a huge help!

Thank you very much for this video - very useful. Finally got my valves adjusted.
Would this process be the same for a 2013 honda pilot ex-l?
1*2*3 exhaust is such a pain to adjust.. just cant get a good view angle to work on it, that wire harness on the way just adds to the difficulty.

Hello, just curious if you have a complete gasket list for a 2004 honda pilot 3.5 needed for a valve adjustment.

do you want to be on the lower end of the spec range vs the higher end? what is the torque spec for the lash bolt and the valve cover bolts?
What is that book called I need those instructions
Excellent video, thanks for putting this out there.

Sounds like the valves are loose and you may have to go back in there and readjust

Could you please send a video of Adjusting valves on a 2005 Honda Odissey Turing Motor 3.5 VTECH and head torque? You will help me so much.
Nice video man!!! You got my subscription
How can you determine when this is required on a honda pilot?
I never use the crank mark just the cam marks and the timing belt cover mark to know when each cylinder is to be adjusted.
You video is the best
Thank you very much
God bless you
I have a p0172 and p0175 does it will need valve adjust

KT Tangos I’ve never adjusted valves with head off so I can’t say.
Excellent video thanks.
Craig Robinson thank you and thank you for watching!
Can I reuse the metal gaskets on the intake plenum after cleaning them???
Daniel Andujar most likely you will be ok to reuse it but there is a chance it will leak.
@@HowtoAutomotiveThats true.. Thanks!

i cant even fit the exhaust gauge in , all data said .011 - .013 i'm using .012 should i loosen it for a lil drag
Gamerz Grip cannot get to gauge and then it is to type and it needs to be adjusted
That was supposed to say tight
Great video
Thank you!
Hello, can you provide a list of the gaskets you used? Thanks.
Djwil Mer I used a Fel-Pro kit there is a link in the description
How to Automotive I was reading not to get the fel-pro. I am pricing the gasket from Honda. Thanks. Great video.

Insightful
Cylinders 123 are the ones that are a pain in the ass lol
Yea right just adjust the rear cylinder exhaust. So you skipped that right.
2,000 dollars later 😔😭 man I should of been born a man with car knowledge
You don’t need to be a man with car knowledge. 👍
Well this job should not of cost 2k the real question is wth they charge you for this a $300 job max by a shop
Sounds like Honda can't fix a honda
