I also throw fresh basil into blender with Extra Virgin Olive oil, blend lightly, then freeze in small ice cubr trays, then store in freezer bags. Can defrost one at a time, toss over salad, mix into scrambled eggs, toss in soup, make pesto, etc. Thanks for the great video.
This is a very good video. You nailed it in around 5 minutes, and set me up with what I needed to know. I am subscribing to you based off this tight, concise, easy to take in video.🇨🇦👊🏻👨🏻🌾💖🙏👍🏻😉👌
I planted some bean sprouts along side my replanted basil plant in my outdoor garden hoping it will support my basil. Glad to find out that was the right move. Just gotta be sure they both like the same conditions. Basil plants hav been a challenging plant for me to maintain. And i hav it beside my pumpkin patch cuz i was hoping the pumpkin scent will cover the basil smell from attracting pests...maybe. grass hoppers might become a familiar foe if im not cateful. Happy to find out the basil will ensure bees visit my pumpkins too
I (thought I) did all the things recommended in this video -- prune and remove flowers throughout the season -- but I ended up with thick, woody stems and very few leaves, which were small and sparse, for harvesting. The plants (standard, Greek, and purple) were in a medium window box, got plenty of Michigan sunshine, enough water, and several feedings throughout the summer. All three plants split into branches and regularly flowered, but the leaves just never got large or lush. The plants ended up mostly stem. I had nice, lush oregano, parsley, and thyme plants growing in some of the same size boxes. Next year I'm going to try moving all of them to a small in-ground garden for some room to spread out.
Hello Angela i have been trying to grow basil but unfortunately they die, i don’t have a yard so i just plant on a container, i water it but it died. I keep it indoor too. Well i will try again, thank you so much. Cross your finger!
Your basil looks amazing. We planted a couple new ones next to our big one that survived the summer. We also have one that refuses to die. It’s surprisingly hardy. Hoping to have a full planter next year. 🤩
Basil was about the only thing that made it through this summer of me learning what a cruel mistress gardening can be. Love it! I've been giving transplants to friends for a few months now!
Basil is the plant that got me into garden and the bulk of my pollinator garden. Only one thing I have say is about blooms and seeds. If you're letting basil to flower and you wanna keep those seeds for next season. Basil will cross breed with other Basil type. So try to keep one type of Basil to bloom or else cross contamination.
Wow! Thk you so much for your encouragement in your video!! I will also try extra the basil frozen in ice cube water. I love love basil…..any way that I can get it. I grow it too here. Ahna Atlanta Georgia
love your black labels with white writing. can you leave a link to your plant ID markers and white ink? thanXs!!!! -from a fellow Az desert gardner novice
Thank you so much for this video. I unfortunately killed my glass basil plant because I have to put them in pots where I live on the golf course. They don’t allow planting in ground. I’m here in Fort Myers Florida where it’s very hot and I understand basil will do well here. If you have any tips on growing it in containers, I would love to hear it. I can only grow on my lanai and pots, so I won’t have bees for pollination. Thanks for sharing. I’m a new sub😊
No one seems to explain though how to plant it when you buy a pot full of basil. Do you plant it all in the ground or divide it say in half,or individually?
I have mines in my moms garden and it been really hot for a while then it rainy for like a whole week. Ii grew it last year and had a ton of it this year it seems to growing weird. I have the thai basil and by mistake cut the stem, but i still have other stems growing it. Will it ruin the whole plant? The boxwood basil is growing super slow but it doesnt get too luch sun i should move it to a better spot but my mom might yell at me haha. For the regular large leaf basil i dont see where to prine it at like last year can i prune it at a different spot if i dont see spot that have the small leaves growing? Hipe you can answer all this haha and sorry if there was any confusion...
Hello,. I planted 2 Sweet Basil plants this year for a "lets see how it does" I didn't cook with it and I never pruned them, They did quite well and probably made it to 30-36" tall,. I felt like they bushed (wide) pretty well. Here in NC end of Oct. it started getting cold at night 30's and 60-70 sometimes in the day. So I tarped or put a tarp over them to protect from frost. And left them covered(Forgot to uncover for several says) The tent cooked and browned or blackened all the leaves. Did a few days covered Bake them to death. I watered them but no green yet, Our weather has been funky here,. 70's in November. but 30-40's at night. I keep hearing these are a 1 and done plant and without a greenhouse a challenge to overwinter. Any tips or ideas ? Thank you.
I have been spraying BT on my basil to combat the munchers. If I want to freeze my leaves, what do I do about the BT? I'm assuming that I don't want to rinse the leaves before freezing since I know I can't get them perfectly dry. Do you use any insecticides on your basil or how do you deal with the munchers?
Someone LIED to you, Xavier. Basil does not ever spread. You can propagate it if you want by taking cuttings into the house and placing into water until it grows roots. But it does NOT spread through its roots like mint. Please tell whoever told you that to keep their mouth eating and less advising. 😂
Yum, good ideas.
I hope you hit that with some garden fresh garlic for the full mind blowing experience! ❤
@GrowingInTheGarden do you have any 🍅 videos 📹?
It's that time again ❤

Nice. Basil is such a beautiful addition to the garden.
I don't think you left anything out in this excellent, properly paced instructional. I will think of you every time I make pizza this summer.
Basil was about the only thing that made it through this summer of me learning what a cruel mistress gardening can be. Love it! I've been giving transplants to friends for a few months now!

In hot countries basil needs mostly shade,so grow it under taller plants . In cooler countries that don't get much sun plant it in full sun.

Hello,. I planted 2 Sweet Basil plants this year for a "lets see how it does"

Thank you.
You could take a cutting from a branch that is still alive and root it indoors to overwinter
I’m is phoenix. Should I plant indoor or outdoor?
Basil is a warm season crop and will go well until temperatures drop
😍😍
Where do you get the different basil.
Usually have to start from seeds to get a wider variety: I get a lot of my seeds at Botanical Interests: shrsl.com/43ska

I rinse my leaves and then lay them out on dishcloths to dry. However, Bt is not harmful to humans.
@@GrowingInTheGarden oh. So you can leave the BT on the basil?
@@sandrascolari1854 I would recommend rinsing it but it is not toxic for humans.
Wait so I was told to keep my basil in pots because it spreads through the roots like mint and will take over my beds. Is this a problem with you?
Basil is a different type of plant. It doesn't spread with underground roots and rhizomes like mint does.
Someone LIED to you, Xavier. Basil does not ever spread. You can propagate it if you want by taking cuttings into the house and placing into water until it grows roots. But it does NOT spread through its roots like mint. Please tell whoever told you that to keep their mouth eating and less advising. 😂

keep edging that bad plant. Got it.
