It is my head canon that the reason Mario agrees to become the shadow queen’s servant is because he can’t bring himself to harm Peach.

@@acejumper1681It wasn’t, it was that doing it to other versions would be very buggy & with the badges that change Mario’s clothes would make that cutscene very glitched as it would show the default one and not Wario, Waluigi or Luigi’s. It was too buggy to do on the original international ones.
imagine if you do this with all the partners the game itself says "dude we put this as a joke if you really want this ending then you need help"

Even though this is a non-canon joke ending I feel so terrible for Mario's party in this. They repay Mario for helping them by assisting him in his adventure only for Mario to literally sell his soul to the devil.😂
Especially Vivian, she had so much faith in Mario. She would probably feel absolutely betrayed by the one who gave her the confidence to leave her abusive environment.
Imagine a mod where you help her conquer the world. You have Beldam, Marilyn, and Doopliss as partners, and you go around fighting all the Queen's enemies, culminating with fighting all your old partners.
@@johnbacchus6169 I'm NO modder, but I feel like like a mod like that would require a complete modification of the game similar to some recent Paper Mario 64 mods I've seen. If it were a thing though, it would be neat to mess around with Doopliss and maybe Marilyn as allies, but I'd never use Beldam coz her personality truly does stink, lol.
One little change makes this scene more impactful!

This makes the scene so much more terrifying than it was in the original.
Imagine having someone stick by you thick and thin throughout your adventure. No matter what happens they’re always by your side to help, and then you do _this_, just becoming the ultimate asshole by giving up and giving in to the embodiment of pure evil, and all they can do is react in horror as you become a lifeless, brainwashed puppet. It’s gut-wrenching.

It's so clear that Vivian has all these deep, romantic (and unsaid) feelings. She nearly confesses them to him TWICE, once when the final battle really begins, and again when Mario's about to take the boat from Rogueport. The last thing she says to him is that she'll unconditionally follow him (to take on the Shadow Queen), and immediately after, he submits. I can't even imagine the utter shock, confusion, and heartbreak she'd have felt after witnessing such a thing. 💔 indeed.
More like all the female partners having a crush on Mario.

The Paper Mario series is quite brutal to Mario if you think about it. Just to name a few:
He gets gravely injured and accused of murder in the first one
He gets his body stolen and then has to fight a possessed Peach puppet in the second
And he gets sent to the underworld and has to fight a possessed Luigi monstrosity in the third.

Even the dark age trio Paper Mario games gave Paper Mario trouble:
- Witnessed a murder of a toad being drained alive, horrified by Shunned Guy, & was nearly killed or possessed by the Black Paint (eldritch entity that's trying to destroy & possess everything with black paint), & found Peach all drained, likely by possessed Bowser.
- Saw Peach turned into a 3D origami zombie monstrosity, was chased by a ravenous chain chomp & saw it brutally devour a piranha plant into shreds, his brother was trapped in a lamp by a Sniffit & was under threat of being trapped, too, could have been guillotined by scissors, witnessed toads with their faces ripped off by a hole puncher.
Then there's ugh...meeting Kirsti & getting bullied by her...
Yeah that’s true, the Legion of Stationery was actually quite disturbing 😳
And I think I heard Shunned Guy is supposed to be a parody of a horror movie scene, not sure which one though. That did catch me off guard 😅

In the original, the partner was just standing there not reacting to Mario becoming the Shadow Queen’s servant. They’re like “I don’t give a phuck”
Then in the remake, when Mario becomes the Shadow Queen’s servant, they freak out and they’re like “THIS CAN’T BE HAPPENING”

Now that I think about it, this actually makes me feel real awful for Vivian because not only did she feel absolutely backstabbed by the guy that she looked up to the entire game, but this also forces her back into the abusive environment that her own sisters created that she tried so hard to get out of. And with Doopliss also around now… Oh man… Fate has really turned against her in this ending…

2:10 somehow with nothing but the sounds of a wind howling in background makes this such a horrifying ending….. I LOVE IT! They did great job in remake!

The fact that she can make Mario serve her so easily makes me wonder why she didn’t think to do that ONCE while fighting him.
I mean,TECHNICALLY she asks again before her 2nd phase but I guess that doesn’t count either since the partner still tells her to take her plans for them and f*ck off.
I think it’s one of those devil deal spells. Where it can only work if the victim willingly submits.

Flurrie, Vivian, and Ms. Mowz don’t seem to have the same “shaking in fear” animation at the end like the others do.
Well, the shaking in fear animations are just the hurt animations with surprise eyes, and Vivian doesn’t have visible eyes, and Ms Mowz doesn’t have a surprise eye animation. Not sure why Flurrie doesn’t have it though.

From what I compared with the GC. Mario uses the impostor mario (dooplis sprite) and your partner are in shock (in the gc version they were standing still or idle)

@@Betabrawleradditionally, much like how Doopliss now accounts for the W Emblem's color alterations when stealing Mario's identity, this sequence also does so for both it, the L emblem, and the combination of the two.

Honestly the one time in the game it REALLY shouldn't be so merciful it hardly counts as a game over. Should've just immediately booted you back to the title screen like the OG and make you live with that decision.
Or at least show a picture of the entire world being enveloped in shadow, just to make you see the true extent of what you've done.

Hey,You know what’s be weird.
Having a sequence where You play as Mario (who has submitted to the Shadow Queen’s will) and fight against ALL of the partners.
The reason I thought that is mainly because unlike Mario,The partner doesn’t exactly change visually wise when becoming her servant here. Maybe have partners quote corny fallen hero quotes “How could you do this?!” And all that shit.
And,Mainly because I wanna reference like other times peach did it and no other reason (wink wink),I think it’d be funny if shadow peach just like kissed Mario when you win? Idk weird thought I had when thinking abt this ending again.
Throw in Beldam, Marilyn, and Doopliss being party members for this fight only and you have one epic bad ending final boss.
I hope Nintendo makes you their CEO
Oh we need to advance in TTYD remake modding ASAP and make this real, I love this particular idea

Probably a third bad ending where Shadow Queen calls Mario and the others pathetic before wiping out your former friends herself in one fell swoop.
Tales of Xillia 2 did this!
Honestly, the fact mario can submit to her, combined with various shadowing cutscenes, really shows how the SQ is probably the one mario villain who truly, actually can destroy everything.
Sure, Bowser got minions everywhere but, he's just, brawn.
Other villains got the brains, but can't stand with the brawn so is easily beat up.
Others need to gather one or all the plot items before they can unleash something.
SQ literally just wakes up and in 2 minutes, shadows the world, obliterates main villain Grodus, possesses Peach, and possibly forces mario to submission. When has mario ever have been forced to possibly submit?!
And it took literally all the Crystal Stars AND the world empowering support to even so much as weaken her enough to be able to be fought, while she still had full HP and ATK.
I think SQ, despite literally only being at the very very end, is one of or possibly best villain in mario.
Honestly, the only other villain comparable to her would be the dark star from bowser’ inside story and even then, he’s only a one-man army and needs bowser’s dna to be complete.

I mean, Count Bleck was going to straight up destroy not one world, but the entire multiverse, but that’s not to say SQ isn’t impressive either.

The 2000s Mario Games were way darker and I love them because of it
I failed to this final boss so many times, and so eventually after learning how, I built my Mario into a danger Mario, with only 5 HP, but he did 42 damage a stomp. Combine that with power bounce and i basically one shotted the boss. If you plan to do this method, then make sure you have a few life mushrooms on hand!
Mario: Hey player! Select "Refuse this witch"! Please! Do it!
(Player selects "Become her servant")
Goombella: "Wh-What do we do, Mario? I think we can not accept to serve him!!!"

Didn’t Shadow Queen grow some kind of plant from Mario’s head in the original? Also, why are there 2 options to let you keep playing? Does “try again” start the whole game over?
