    Just for clarification, there is a reason the roms partition is in ext4: it solves the battery drain issue that was already present in the batocera releases. I’m currently on v40 and formatted both sd cards to ext4 from the get go and upload roms via network. It can be really annoying to new users and these problems should be solved by the team but i don’t mind, i like the os, obviously using muOS or stock would be the clear answer but i’m personally waiting on more development of the systems before taking any firm decision on what to use

      I'm waiting for this device to arrive, so in the meantime, I bought two SD cards. I plan to use two systems, like the stock system and Batocera, by swapping the SD cards as needed. If I use two systems this way, will I be able to access the games on the other SD card?

      Well, I see no logical reason, why partition-formats can solve battery drain - I am using knulli-h700-rg35xx-h-40-20240721.img with reformated exFAT SHARE-partition wtithout battery drain so far...

      Same I just did mine in exfat... Everything was seamless... Only issue I'm having at the moment is connecting to scraper to scrape box art, but that might be a scraper issue not a knulli one specifically. The emulation station look is just so good I can't go back to garlic os 2.0 unless they really overhaul it

    I have to disagree on this one. I just flashed it, followed the directions on the web site which clearly state that ROM's must be loaded over the network (which worked super well and I much prefer to having to constantly move the SD card around), and I have a fully working and really beautiful Knulli installation. The whole process took an hour max and that was mainly just copying and organizing the ROM's.

    • @VladNerd
      @VladNerd  4 месяца назад +1

      I think that was my main problem with it, in the sense that it deviated from the common UX that most CFWs require. Breaking commonly expected UX like making the SD card impossible to be swapped around between the PC and handheld (on a non-Linux machine) will either not be a big deal for some, or a real dealbreaker for others.
      In any case, I'm gonna give it another chance soon in a future vid. I do have high hopes for this CFW, though.

    By the time this video was published, the quickstart guide on the wiki clearly laid out all the steps - including ext4 (and how easy it is to access), remapping the buttons, how to use a dual card configuration (which I chose). I'm a total n00b when it comes to these - this is my first retro gaming device, and had no major issues beyond understanding the N,S,E,W buttons :). Once you quickly learned what needed to be, why not just re-start and use one SD card? That would have saved you all the pain with Portmaster? Lastly, as a nerd, doing a summary of installing WSL 2 would have shown everyone how easy it is to mount the ext4 card in Windows 11.
    I agree it's still got some rough edges, but I think the guide on the wiki would help most people avoid them.

    • @VladNerd
      @VladNerd  4 месяца назад

      Very good points, but the baseline standard should always be "how difficult it is compared to installing other CFW's".
      People like me and you have no problem resorting to reading the docs, but most people simply wouldn't, and this needs to be factored in. Basic things should always "just work". Fringe bugs are 100% acceptable though and every CFW has those.
      The UX shouldn't have been broken if I started out with 2 SD cards, for example. This is not a fringe bug. In my opinion, a public image shouldn't have been released without this being fixed [and other things, like detecting which device variant you have (h/plus,sp,etc) and mapping the controls for that specific thing (so the user doesn't start his experience with half the buttons unmapped on the H)].
      Like I said in the video, I'm rooting for Knulli. Despite some criticism, I'm on their side and I want to love it. I just know that it needs a bit more dev time and polish, that's all. :)

      @@VladNerd also fair points - I don't know how many people beyond nerds are even aware of the cfw scene, but we both agree that Knulli and beans have got bright futures, and both are showing Anbernic how they should be building their software to match the quality of their hardware 😁.

    Knulli/Batocera has been my cfw of choice. Im still relatively new to handhelds (was pc emulation years back only) however ive had extensive experience with alpha testing from the gaming side of things. Ive tried muos but i found it to be less polished and a tad bit minimalist for my taste. But that is just my preference, theres a large portion of the community who love minimalist approach. Ive handed my console to little kids, adults and my teens, none of them have had issues using this CFW. Most confusion ive seen comes from the set up process (people not reading), physical hardware issues (faulty devices/incompatible wifi), and power users not understanding what a batocera based OS focus is.

    I've been testing Knulli every day for 2 weeks. It is not Knullis fault that the micro SD card is in ext4 that is almost all Linux systems for these devices. I never had an issue with the analog sticks and buttons not working I don't get where this is coming from. As far as Portmaster it was there for me to install every time on my second card. And it worked perfectly. He did some things wrong right away that caused his own headaches

    • @VladNerd
      @VladNerd  4 месяца назад

      Interesting assumption that "I must've done something wrong" just because my results were not what you desired / expected. :)
      I did the most basic things possible that shouldn't have broken how the CFW runs. We need to be less biased with this kind of stuff. If it didn't work, it simply didn't work and this needs to be addressed, but this is literally a solvable problem.
      No sense defending software, software can always become better (and just like I said in the video, I'm looking forward to seeing Knulli polish some of the rough edges).

After everything is complete, shut down, remove sd card and put into your device. Funnily enough, the thing that put me off Koriki was that on first boot after flash the control mapping was completely borked. I couldn't navigate the UI properly. eventually figured it out and managed to wrestle my way to remapping. and then found out my ROM foilder setup I'd used previously didn't match what they wanted so I couldn't see half my ROMs. I'm sure Batocera is great, but that initial experience put me off, the thought of any further troubleshooting didn't appeal, and then I saw Vlad's video on MuOS and haven't looked back

    • @tommy6742
      @tommy6742 4 месяца назад +1

      If you're coming from Batocera then the device should still read the roms from the SD card even if you do a fresh install of Knulli on SD1, Vlad is coming from either Stock OS or Muos where the file structure is completely different and neither Batocera or Knulli will read the 2nd SD card correctly. Only issue with just using the Batocera SD2 card with Knulli is that Portmaster may not work, the work around is trying to download the Install Portmaster script from the Knulli site and if that doesn't work you WILL need a formatted SD card in EXT4 format. Unlike what Vlad says about formatting there are windows programs you can use to format into the EXT4 format.

    I think you are being a little bit harsh . It is after all a cfw where people take their own time making it without any payments. Making it work is not as simple as "editing a config file" like you said. it involves drivers, coding in C and much more. if its as simple as editing a config file i am pretty sure it would have be done by now.
    compiling the knulli image from source takes up to 6 hours in my beefy pc . so testing everyone of these changes would take ages.

    I love Vlad but disagree with his assessment. Knulli works great on the Trumui Smart Pro, with the exception of most of the PSP library. Aside from that it's great! The stock OS for the TSP and Tomato OS are not good. BTW you can reformat the SD card within Knulli and boom your sd card can be read. In Windows. I put a couple of my PSP games in the correct folder and it read it populated just fine.

    MANY PEOPLE use FTP to transfer roms especially if you have other hacked consoles like PSVita, N3DS, Wii U, PS3, PS4, PS5....Even other chinese retro handhelds by Powkiddy. FTP completely negates the need to constantly pull out the SD card from a device. Also for the Install Portmaster script to show up on the 2nd SD card, the 2nd SD card needs to be a clean formatted unused SD card.

    I returned to your video and followed every single problem with knulli, and fixed them all after install..
    What i fixed so far.
    1. Controls mapping.
    2. ppsspp scaling, actually there is some tinkering around to scale it.
    3. PortMaster games and ctd problems. (U need to properly install portmaster, reboot, update, install games, then transfer game files to proper locations, reboot, map controls.) Too much reboots at this point. Also for portmaster scrip - first time use 1 sd card to get script. Save it. Then add second sd dard. Few other fixes i found for myself to make everything esier, but probaly will not mention because too long to type.. Knulli discrod community is filled with questions and everyone has their own solutions. Hope they will read those and make update with all fixes.

    I like your channel but this is a pretty ridiculous video buddy. I'm running it on both the Plus and the H with zero issues. You can format the Share partition on the card for exFat in Knulli if you insist on using windows. Also, for the record, the Batocera v39 for the rg552 is EXACTLY the same in this respect. Should I not have installed that? And when you get in for the first time you should always map your controller.

      I think this is a little bit extreme for something that's given away for free. I mean yes I know that there's ways to support the creators but there's ways to get this completely free and use. Also to my knowledge I could be wrong but this is multiple people working on this so not sure why this criticism even if it's factual is even helpful. I think it'd be more helpful to point out that if you're going to use a custom firmware you should learn some basic things about using them first. I think that would be more useful and helpful. That being said enjoy your content and just trying to add in my viewpoint

    • @paperoverflow
      @paperoverflow 2 месяца назад +1

      @toddhowarddd no, he is right. His point is that it will take update to reduce the amount of tinkering. Come on man, what makes an OS more successful than others is making it more userfriendly and reduce the tinkering to a minimum. There is difference between customizing and tinkering!!!! Customizing, having to tinker can be very annoying, especially when you don't have time for that! He's right, because MUOS, for example, is the better OS here for this console.
      Knulli is good in that there is progress into making Batocera possible on the RGXX series. However it is in early development and has many bugs and stability issues + unforeseen stuff.
      This video, so people know what to expect. I'm happy about this video, so I'll stick with MUOS and not waste my time tearing my hair until my a55 is bold. Otherwise why watch such videos, these guys are fantastic!

    yeah using the adapter is one of the worst possible ways of transferring data, I feel like a caveman every time I have to do it. I'd much rather use software than deal with cables, ports, cards etc. if it can all be avoided. Did so since PS3. On many devices the card isn't that easy to access anyway or you store the roms on the built in hard disk. I'd rather not unscrew my console and unplug the disk every time I want a rom lol.
    It's a shame windows still can't access ext4 which has been around since 2006. Linux had full ntfs support since 2006, five years after XP came out and I believe it took so long only because of legal doubts. That's hardly Knulli's fault windows is as barebones as OSes come. Maybe your windows is the one not ready for use xd
    I understand it'd be better to not have to deal with it, but mapping buttons isn't something unheard of in any emulation, is it. IMO most of the potential users of this are people who put CFWs and modchips on their systems for dacades now, this is comparatively light experience from a non-commercial project. They didn't even expect you to build anything from source or run any weird programs on PC. Even portmaster takes more work.
    You literally had to tweak like 2 things, understand that there are other filesystems than the two microsoft knows and all that's left is the UI scaling bug. Changing ROMs on android is harder than that. Hell, configuring your router is harder than that.

      Most likely everyone of your concern is caused by using a second tf card, the configurations, portmaster settings, etc are on the first card. This is some Linux-elitist logic right here. As a dude that's been using Linux distros on and off since 2007, I can say that this isn't the right mindset to have.
      Windows is used by the majority. All other custom firmwares can be tweaked and tuned under Windows. This needs to be the standard that any other CFW should be measured to.
      Expecting people to just "know and use Linux partitioning systems" for a CFW on a Linux Handheld is a sure-fire way to assuring that the CFW in question remains a microniche.
