Hey, Daniel! Love your content (and their too) I watch almost all tutorials of a skill to progress faster. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 I can do a good handstand and wall handstand push ups but can't do a free handstand push up..
Sirr , I follow good athletes who have lots of knowledge, so I can progress and u are also one of my always recommended youtuber , my doubts = fitness faqs and calisthenics movements ❤❤
just did my first one 3 days ago, and i can do 3 now. Thank you sir took me about 1-2 months of trying everyday. This video actually helped. If anyone wants some tips: 1. Learn to hold handstand for 30 seconds first by using fingers and palms to balance. 2. Do handstand on the wall put hands and body as close to the wall as possible, check to see if you have the strength to even press your bodyweight, try to limit your body from touching the wall. (I was able to do 4-8 wall handstand pushups when i first started) 3. Start your handstand off by holding hands on ground and control your body to the handstand. Dont just throw yourself into one, balance is much easier when you slowly control the movement. 4. STRETCH WRISTS AND SHOULDERS BEFORE and stop immediately if you feel sharp pains in wrist. 5. As you progress, you will able to go lower and lower. 3 days ago i went from doing a half- pushup to nose touching ground now.
Can I just train with dumbbells for now? I'm extremely weak in that range of motion and can't even do a handstand or anything shown in this video at all. I can literally do one arm pull ups, one arm push ups, pistol and dragon squats, but I forgot to ever train my muscles for overhead lifting reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
@@Luka-pd6om In my experience, leaning makes the pike push up harder and more effective but don't lean too much to the point you're hurting your joints.
This is the best handstand tutorial on the Tube. I am using bands to help me at this point, as I am beginning these at the age of 60 . I am so thankful for your sharing your form and injury prevention knowledge.
Very informative video. I've been doing my handstands and wall hsup wrong all this time. Your channel is one of the best out there when it comes to calisthenics!!
Handstand pushups are really the king of bodyweight. Especially freestanding ones. It requires the involvement of all kinds of muscle groups - most surprisingly TRAPS and GLUTES, but also legs, core, lower back, arms, literally the whole body.

Thank you for your great videos! Out of all bodyweight / calisthenics channels, your's is my favourite! I'm working on my handstand for now, plus doing pike push-ups! Hopefully I'll get the straight handstand and maybe 1 PSU this year :) Thanks again for the tutorials, very useful!
Murtaza Qureshi Thanks for believing in me mate :) But I don't know, I've been really into training the past 4 moths, but the handstand is very difficult for me! Especially the straight one, I just cannot have my back straight, maybe because I'm not flexible enough or strong enough yet. We'll see how it goes
+artur wieczerzak the straightness from your handstand comes from shoulder flexibilty and the tension in your body... try imitate a handstand while standing and you'll automatically feel if it's easy or hard to get your shoulders right above your head and then you move your hips forwards etc, it just take a lot of balancing practice... As for the power in HSPU if you stay honest with yourself and your form on pike push ups and maybe negative HSPU you'll have the power to do them in no time
Jason Calisthenics Thank you very much for the advices, they're really helpfull! I am probably not flexible enough in my shoulders, so I'm gonna do some wall handstands while I stretch the shoulders before going for my free balance handstand again. Cheers
Hi Alex, This is very helpful. Well explained and illustrated. I've been working on my beginner handstand and so far so good. But still more work to do and can't wait to be able to master it. Thanks so much
Thank you thank you thank you!! this video is what I needed to see. I can't do a handstand yet (I'm just working on my frogstands) but I was quite disencouraged with handstand pushups because I have a disc hernia and all of the handstand push ups that I saw on internet were with an arched back so I thought that I would never be able to do them. Now you guys show us how to do them with a straight back so you gave me hope again LOL. Thank you for this tutorial again!!
QUESTION: Isn’t the reverse movement of HSPU a pull up? Do we not start a pull up from a dead hang to an active hang by depressing the shoulder blades? You’ve stated that shoulder blades elevate as you push up. Should the elevation happen at the end of the movement like Rippetoe recommends with a barbell overhead press. Any thoughts?
I have fought for about 2 years for HSPU and I still can't do them freestanding. But I will make it in the end. I guess my 85 kg don't make it easier. Thanks for another great video!
For how long should one practice each level of progression before moving onto the next? What’s the set and rep range and for how long before achieving the handstand push up?
are there any tips on how to kick up to handstand with my belly facing the wall (like 3:00 in the video)? i can kick up with my back facing the wall but have no idea on how to do the side kick up.
Alex I'll be integrating both the progression for the plank as well as this one in my workout plans for the rest of the year till I master them. 💯💪🏿💪🏿 great contents thanks for the tips!

which one consider best with the elbow alignment when moving your body down? I have seen some people did with the elbow bending on the side and this version teaches us to bend to the front. What the different and which one consider safer to execute? thanks
What would you say about the flaring of elbows during the concentric portion of HSPU? Is it safe? Would it be a lack of strength in the triceps? I know this video is 2 years old but it would be great to have a reply.
El Eggs, what is your take on the "Scorpion"? From my point of view it is overly stressing the back and is (probably) more likely to injure you since it "is" an exaggeration of the "banana" handstand. Thanks, and great video!
What do you think of the idea of connecting the two upper arms (just above the elbow) with a strap that "passes" in front of the thorax so that the elbows cannot deviate outwards (This deviation shifts the load from the deltoid to other muscles , which we don't want AND increases the risk of rotator cuff injuries)?
I use just pike push ups. Due to physical handicap (Körperbehinderung) my hip flexion is limited s.th. like 60-70°. I found out that I round the thoraic spine. Apart from that I follow your cues (at least I try as much as I can). Your back is straight in every repition and the hip flexion is I guess around 90° (or even more). Does rounding the thoraic spine even matter? Should I probably stop using this exercise? How can I improve the exercise? Thank you very much for your help in advance.
Can you guys make another video on the handstand but more focused on the kick up? That is what I am stuck on, I have the strength for perfect form but I still can't do the kick up. Thx
