- In this video I will focus on how to learn the best bodyweight exercise for pushing strength- the handstand push-up (HSPU). The tutorial is for beginner and intermediate calisthenics athletes who wants to learn the handstand push-up from scratch, or those who are struggling with stagnation on their HSPU journey. The handstand push-up guide is also perfect for the intermediate athlete who is struggling with getting from wall assisted handstand push-ups to free standing handstand push-ups.
I will go through the common approach to this awesome move, but I will also be adding a few secret exercises that most people don-t know about.

Probably the best hspu tutorial i've seen till now, thanks!
The best HSPU tutorial on youtube. Thanks mate!
Amazing strength! Subbed!
Those regressions where genious Sondre! I loved the hamstring assisted against a wall, will definitively start doing those, thanks for sharing Sondre!
As crazy as this might sound I definitely needed to hear that part on “form”!! It’s soooo true!! Makes sense that as you build up your muscle your form will get better with time! Also what’s the point of taking a hard stance on front or back of the wall… keep your options open! Best video I’ve seen on HSPU and definitely subscribing to this channel! Thank you so much my friend!
Those deep hspu's outside on the bench are just amazing to watch + whole body tricep extension, wow! 🤩 Training goals 💯 Thanks again.
Love your vids man, they cover a lot of things that others do not💪👏
One of if not the best tutorial I've seen. covered everything and did so in a simplified manner. ⚡⚡
Thank you sooooo much. It is so impressive how you do ✋ Stand included all the variations. I try to learn my Handstand for So long and I still think my shoulder mobility is still too bad. But I woun't give up. Thx for these impressions. Regards from Germany. Dom
Dear Sondre, Thank you so very much for your beautiful tutorials! This is really the best handstand push up tutorial ever! Very inspiring, motivating and eye operning! May your blessings be countless! Lots of Love! Gérard

Best hspu tutorial on RUclips 💪🏻🌋
So useful, thanks a lot 🙏
Great video man 🔥
Wise words and good content!👏👍
really good tutorial! I applied nearly all the tips in this video and I finally achieved my first handstand pushup with perfect form, I have to say I luckily didn't struggle with bad form at all and I suspect it is because I mastered my press to handstands (straight arm and bent arm) right before that I think If you are thinking to much about form perfect your press it will definitely help !
thank you!
Awesome 🔥
thanks coach👍👍👍
You the best teacher!!!
Amazing 👏 thanks bro

Great
Very informative video. Definetly one of the best out there on yt. Thanks a lot!
What do you think about reps and sets and rest time regarding Handstandpush training?
Very good tutorial
Well done bro
Thank you.
I agree with your feelings about perfect form. I think too much emphasis is placed on perfect form in the bodyweight community. Get the move down first, then work towards form
Yeah, as long as the main technical cues are correct in order to prevent injury and not to get a bad habit (head in front of hands and elbows in for this move).
@@Sondre_Berg Exactly, coming from the bodybuilding perspective , cheating exercises have also a place in the training progression or finishing of a set to fatigue the muscle.
Just got my own HSPU today 🎉
Can't believe how good this tutorial is....you need to change your thumbnail to get more views though! Thanks for sharing!
great tutorial❤️❤️❤️
Thank you! Cheers!
thanks king
Very useful video bro
Real talk 👍
I think the trend of perfect form originally came from a concern for ijuries, but it outgrew it's original purpose and became that monster that gatekeeps excercises. It's super important to know how to not injure yourself by following certain key form cues from the very beginning(Like the cues you gave in this video).
I was following u on ig fr long time but didnt knw abt utube 😂. Loved this tutorial❤️😍 . And want a adv tuck planche tutorial also plzz😆
Awesome
One of the best hspu movies 😀
Your the king of handstand pushups.
the guy is the most handsome brilliant and strong guy ever like damn the guy shares tips like its nothing no clickbait sondre deserves a shit ton of subs
excellent tutorial...i can do wall supported hs pushups for a few reps, but need to work on free standing handstand. pushing up from the crow might work for me. i workout alone without a spotter.
awesome, friend :)
Nice!
Thanks!
Great advice!...Im currently on this journey. Am stuck on very high pike pushup for 8-9 reps with deep range of motion. But just tried face against a wall today and was not even able to do just short reps. So this was very welcoming. Will try it out.
Let me know however it goes 😊
How’s it going
@@Manta2006 Not super good. I moved away from these exercises over the winter because i train in gyms and there i use OHP to try and build up my shoulders.
But cant really get the weight up high enough compared to my body weight.
But im starting training outside again next month and over the summer. Thats when i go back to doing what he shows here.
This is going to take years for me to reach.
I have size against me and also age.
But thx for asking.
My First HSPU 🤘🏿 already I can do 10 reps wall hspu let’s Go!
Bro, keep make tutorials.. it helps very much 🙏🏾
love ur shirt 🙌
Just came here after watching the video with Magnus Midtbø today to see what you do.
Great video!
Regarding form: as far as i know, this comes from classic strength training with weight. Because a lot of people tend to use alot of weight e.g. to do squats before they can control what their knees do when being in the lower part of a squat. It might work in the upper part where the stress on the joint and tendons is smaller, but if you get further down it might cause some injuries.
With calisthenics and bodyweight, this should not be an issue and would to 100% support the "you got to try and do it some time"-approach.
BTW: got to take a look at your app and some beginner trainings. I watch more videos of people doing sports than i do sports...
So cool 🤘 i love it 😁
I did try many times as Young and IT didn't worked out for me. At 55 now i still wish i could walk on my hands feet Up. So hard for arms and the hand 😲😑
excellent explanation thanks for the very useful tips 💪💪🙇♀️🙇♀️
You’re very welcome ☺️
@@Sondre_Berg thanks 🙇♀️🙇♀️
Real!
Best
i like the hairstyle...damn it suits on u with that body....not many look great with that hair style
Getting hspu lessons from the Beast himself!!! My life is complete!
Me tooooo I also don't like fixing standards and always shouting about form .
Lmao "F*** IT!" 😂😂😂 9:57 that's my boy right there 👍😎
Sondre donot delete any of your videos its very important for me
9:58 good tip
👊
4:39 Wait a minute. You're talking while performing the movement 🤣🤣🤣💪 Thought it was a voice over until you came back down and kept on talking like nothing 😳😂
Speaking of form the bloke who won the zoom handstand competition last year (200 participants) had a horrible banana form but he held it for over 17 min. The runner up had perfect form.
Or look at Tim Shieff a parkour guy who can do some of the most impressive handstand moves but with a bent kind of freestyle form.

How can I get to be able to do the bent arm press? i lift myself but never reach the handstand with straight arms could I do it when I reach Wall asissted handstand push ups,I am currently in Elevated pike push ups with series going from 9-14 reps
Great video but it says there's a link to the complete handstand guide in the description, but this isn't there.
Absolutely Accurate!!! Just Fuck It And Give It A Shot!! Practice Makes Permanent, And Form Comes With Time! Have To Enjoy The Journey, Because Calisthenics Is A Lifestyle Not A Hobby!! Been Doing It For A Year Now And Still Working On Strict HSPU & Muscleups, Micro-progressions Happen Very Subtly But Gotta Love The Process!!! #Calisthenics4Life
Exactly! Enjoy the process, have fun and train hard🙌
🌸
Have one version more advanced of pike push ups, where feet no touching of ground. Do you think good progression?
Sorry for my english ✊😎
one question is it normal to fell pressure on my eyes like they come out a bit?
Just a basic question, how long are you supposed to be able hold your handstand before doing the HSPU journey?
is it easy to it if your hands is in 45 degrees position? i just notice it.
I definetely analysed too much hspu videos, which led to some sort of paralysis of analysis with the form...I sadly realised that AFTER it clicked with the form that worked for me for the first nice feeling hspu...anyways...don't obsess with the form of your first hspus😉
all i did was negatives, partial reps or bent arm statics, after learning handstand.
is good 26 handstand pushup ?
Hey man, How often do you train handstand push ups and what is the intesity of these trainings? I ask you because I recently had a shoulder injury and I would like some advices to avoid over training.
I train HSPU variations about 3 times a week. But it is highly individual and you need to learn to know your own body to make this decision
@@Sondre_Berg Ya I agree with that every person recovers diferently. I guess it was too much for me to train 5 times a week HSPU, I just enjoy doing them so much :P Thanks for the respones and keep the hard work.
Should I keep a posterior pelvic tilt when I do the back to wall HSPU or arching the back cannot be avoided ? I am only asking because although I can do back to wall HSPUs with an arched back, when I try them with posterior pelvic tilt they seem impossible! So is it a matter of strength? Should I keep pushing with an arched back or maybe should I do only negatives with posterior pelvic tilt?
Thanks in advance! Also thank you so much for the amazing content you provide !
Tilting your pelvis will be the ultimate goal but it is harder because you're shape will make you reøy morenon shoulder strength, while woth an arched back you get to utilize your upper pecs to a bigger extent. This shape is difficult to do back to wall, but you get closer to it by starting out with knees bent 90 degrees and straightning knees as you go down. You could also try and remain one leg straight while bending the the other this way only the vending leg will touch the wall. I look at bent back HSPU as progrwssion towards the "perfect form" HSPU. Keep at it and you'll get there. I was repoing maybe 5 woth bent back before I had any chance of doing a straight HSPU.
@@Sondre_Berg Thank you thank you thank you so much for answering me! Very helpful advice. Thanks once again and greetings from Greece!
Shall the hands be slightly turned out 45 degrees when initiating the forward lean. I have trouble keeping my forearms vertical
Hands should not be turned out. The need for this usually indicates lack of wrsit mobility (which you should work on). I the meantime, turning them outwards to avoid excessive pressure is fine, but I absolutely recommend stretching and strengthening wrists to ivercome this issue and to prevent potential injuries
hello, I tried to stand on my hands leaning on the wall, the blood rushes to the head very quickly, it’s all red, 2 push-ups and a head like a tomato
How many push-ups were you able to do at the beginning of your hspu journey?
Quite a few (50+) 😅 But I wouldn't say that's a must. Have a base is good though, so 20-30 push-ups should be a good starting point
@@Sondre_Berg 6:56 bro how can i lift my legs up,i tried it today and almost broke my arm while doing it. Every time i lift a Little bit i hit with my knees my elbow
