  • On today’s episode of the SSPX Podcast, we discuss one of the most common objections to the Catholic Faith, namely that Catholics pray to Mary and the saints instead of going directly to Jesus. This criticism, common among Protestants, is often rooted in the Bible’s directive to go directly to Jesus and His Father. Why then do Catholics pray to Mary and the saints and what is the basis for this practice? Join us as Fr. David Sherry helps answer this common objection while explaining the role of Mary and the saints in our salvation.
You can find notes to all these episodes at sspxpodcast.com/apologetics, as well as all our previous episodes. There as well, you can find a link to help support this project. This is free to listen to, as well as all the resources we’re posting, but if you can help with a one time or a small monthly recurring donation, you’ll be making sure that we can continue this work of producing good Catholic content on a regular basis.

    "It all makes sense."
When I was debating my Catholic workmate, it didn't take long for me to realize that not only was I (clearly) losing, but that all his arguments made sense.
I remember one line in particular. I stated that for all the attention given to Mary by his Church, there isn't a lot about her in the Bible. His reply... "The Bible's not about Mary, it's about Jesus." Good answer.
Thank you Father for all your work in Canada, and a special thank you for visiting us at St. Raphael's. We're going to miss you!

Great material! Irenic, but truthful. Canada's loss will be the UK's gain, Fr. Sherry.

    Re: SSPX
I always sort of shrink when I hear that society speaking like there are two levels in Catholicism... Their level as being superior and holy (better dressed) and (better postures), and the Holy Catholic Church as being sort of irreverent...
At 78, I lived through the Latin Mass, and came out of the Mass not having understood much in that language.
I still love to reminisce about those good old days, but since Mother Church is a good mother; she decided that each faithful would be better served hearing the Mass in their own language...I immediately cheered that decision indeed.
Please don*t tell me that back in those days that I was receiving Holy Communion in a more reverent way, as one grows in the love of receiving the Body, Blood Soul and Divinity of our Lord Jesus Christ.
    Ps
One should not even notice if others are receiving on the tongue or in the hand if one is concentrated on who one receives.

Simply said, we venerate Mother Mary (as she is saint above all saints) but we do not worship her in the same manner as we do with God.

Thats over an hour i'll never get back. Lets see, he pretty much dodged the question of praying TO anyone but God for over an hour. When he did finally get to it he gave examples of intercessory prayer one for another who are alive and well on this earth. Why didn't he cite the numerous people by name here on the earth that actually prayed TO mary or saints? Because there are none thats why. Not one single person does it, at all. That should be a huge red flag. But for some reason its not. All prayer goes to God. Jesus said so in Matt 6..' Lord teach us to pray.' 'Sure, pray this way Our Father...' Paul in Phil 4 be anxious for nothing but by prayer....make all requests made known to God. Jesus lives to intercede for us; Heb 7. Why that isn't enough for catholics is beyond me. Its one more way satan takes your eyes off of Jesus and places them squarely on some dead person. And yes they are dead because they are separated, their spirit from their body. And please show me where mary or anyone else, from scripture since its what he said, is the spouse of the Holy Spirit. Thanks

I hope you find conversion before you die. My God is the God of the living, not the dead. Not sure what you are following, but seeing that you have no respect at all for the Blessed Virgin Mother Mary, you don't worship The One True God. Praying for veiled hearts to no longer be blinded by Satan 🙏🏻
