So uh for your information, they have counter weights on the right side to balance with the fuel tank. Stamped doesn’t mean weak. I personally have the 960M. I came from using hustler and I also demoed 7 brands before deciding to run my Deere. In my area gravely cut like crap. It’s odd that the 950 deck was moving because Mine has always been sturdy. I’ve never had problems keeping my deck clean. Actually since I always clean my stuff when I’m done I’ve noticed that the Deere is way easier to keep clean than other mowers I’ve had to clean off due to not as much being in the way. My hustler pulleys we’re protected like the TC2 he pointed out and stuff still got in there and was a pain to clean. A lot of what I’m hearing in this video sounds like it comes from someone who has very little experience out on the field with these machines. Some of the things he pointed out are not all that important. Now, the only thing I dislike about my JD is that they went with Tuff Torq transmissions instead of Parker or Hydro gear. And yes as he mentioned I notice it a bit jerky coming off the trailer but once you are in the field it’s not. I actually prefer the angled rops bar because it doesn’t stick up near as high as the other brands and actually hits less limbs altogether. Also anyone who knows anything about lawn care knows that it’s only on rare occasions that you even have to use a rops bar when there are low hanging trees around. I mean every property is different but like I said it’s rare. 90% of the time mine are down and it’s very hilly out here. Like he said KNOW your facts. Don’t get them from someone who’s biased. Demo them for yourself before you make a decision. What works for me may not work for you. Scag and Wright are great mowers and I have nothing against them and I would even consider buying them if I had good dealers near me. Where I live you see more JD and Scag than anything else and that’s for good reason. Find the best dealers near you and pick your favorite mower brand between them according to your opinion.

I dont know anything about the z900 series but I got a z720e and that thing is a monster. Going from a home depot riding mower it is a world of difference. It lasted a good 7 years before I had an issue. Don't see why the z720 wont last for 20. Cuts like a dream too, also cut my mowing time in half.

Hey buddy I have one with 3500+ hrs and have not broke an anti scalp wheel bracket yet. Not had an issue with the deck at all in any way. Personal opinion on stamped deck or fabricated deck. One last just as good as the other. Had them both. Plastic covers over spindle bearings don't rattle as bad like metal does. Never replaced spindle bearings either. Gas tank makes no difference either. Had both. Just your opinion. John Deere is very well built unless you drive it over a cliff. Speaking from experience . Have a great day.

I have owned and ran nearly all models, I rank them top to bottom, JD, Hustler, Scag, top models, worst, Snapper Pro, Bobcat, Gravely. One of my John Deeres had over 4000 hrs and still the original spindles. I have already replaced all the spindles on one of my Hustlers at 1000 hours. Plus nothing cuts like the John Deere deck, but the Scag is close.

About the only thing I agree with Is the parking break on the deere is a little harsh to set. Not a deal breaker by no means. Nothing wrong with this deere mower. It's a great and well designed machine. They are several well designed commercial mowers on the market. I have run several brands and I'm not really partial to any of them. You run any of them long enough you will have problems. My advice when looking at these mowers is buy from the closest dealer with the best service.

John Deere designed the stamped deck for lack of clogging. I have 2 2016 Toro Z masters 3000. They are awesome machines no issues with them at all however the turbo force deck is terrible about clogging so I vote a win for John Deere design. Mowing over 60 properties, productivity is the name of the game. Who has time to clean out the deck all the time?

Don't see a lot of john deere mowers in central texas cutting commercially and the ones I do see are the $18,000 and up tanks with all tweels. Mostly Scag, Exmark, Kubota, Hustler and Toro here in central Texas. They do have dealers in almost every city or town, that's a plus when needing parts or service. I don't have any experience with john deere commercial mowers, but would love to try one. Does john deere offer efi kawasaki's and efi Kohler's? Like most have mentioned here, take them out and USE them, you will see which ones perform the best. Deere and Scag have the best decks on the market, period. QOC is superior on the Deere and Scag Velocity Plus II is right up there with it. All mowers cut grass when the conditions are perfect, but what about damp/wet/tall grass? I own that exact same Deere, it sticks the hills, even when wet. All mowers have pros/cons, but Deere and Scag commercials are 2nd to none!

I feel like Deere mowers are unbelievably difficult to get honest reviews on. It’s one of the few brands that I see people fanatically swear by, but one of the mowers I see used the least in the commercial market. I could be wrong, but it’s just what I noticed when looking at the lawn mowing services around me. I’m also in Iowa, which is extra bizarre . A lot of people I hear swear by Deere, but seem like they have never owned anything else. No hate on Deere, I like the company, but I get Harley Davidson vibes. I’d like to own one though, I’m just leery that the green and yellow fantaticism is more because of Deeres branding than how they stack up against competition in the same price range. I’d love to hear people’s thoughts that have owned other brands as well as Deere.

John Deere has been designing the best tractors and implements for over 100 years. This guy keeps saying know your facts before you buy a mower, obviously he needs to take his own advise when selling a mower. JD is the best in the market. Scag is a piece of crap, exmark is over priced and have to double cut as well as scag mowers. Been running JD for over 25 years and have only replaced 2 pto switches and 1 key switch. Owned 1 scag turf tigwer and in 2 years it broke down 6 times. Nothing runs like a Deere buddy! Believe that cause it’s true. Stole being so biased!

When you shook the other machine the deck moved. Its suspended on chains.... reach down and really shake it . Also with the other brands running wiring loom like that its impossible to find any shorted wires and you're forced to replace the entire harness when somthing goes wrong. Pretty much everything you said is totally biased and who ever brought their machine to you to fix should see this . taking a video of a customers machine and talking bad about it the entire time?

  • @cb7pwn

The only thing with the Deere's is that they put the "cheaper" Kawasaki motors on their machine and the lower grade diffs compared to their competitors.. BUT the decks are 7 gauge beauties and the machines seem to work better than the competitors regardless somehow. Over priced but work well

The thing with John Deere is zero turn mowers are not their specialty. Their big tractors are. As of Right now John Deere is doing some controversial shit as a company. They laid off a lot of employees and moved production overseas. They are against Right to Repair. That argument goes two ways. They do utilize a lot of proprietary components and software. As someone who does service my own equipment John Deere stuff is expensive. If you have a machine with a computer good luck with that. What I'm stating is fact! With Zero turn mowers the thing I found is nearly all manufacturers use similar components. But different manufacturers configure them differently. It comes down to what you are trying to do with it and how much you are willing to invest. Ride quality is a huge deal for me. I don't hate John Deere their older stuff is solid will last. They used to have great customer service and aftermarket support . That's why they have and had a strong customer base. Just like any other company they got greedy and lost touch with their customer base. If you have a solid John Deere dealership and they support their products and have great customer service. John Deere maybe a sound investment. But if you purchase their products at a big box store or through a third party, you probably will run into problems. That's the biggest factor in purchasing any piece of equipment. Go through a dealer. Try different products. Me personally I've tried different brands. Toro 2000, Ferris IS 800, Kubota 400 series and yes John Deere 700 and 900 series. I found that Ferris has the most comfortable ride. I found that Toro 2000 cuts beautifully. I find Kubotas to be a tough product. I'm a public works employee, we run commercial mowers mainly Kubota. They are tough and easy to maintain. They don't ride or cut as nice as a Ferris or Toro. For the Water Treatment plant we have a John Deere. That thing struggles. I don't like the way it cuts. It cuts clumpy. It doesn't take hills very well. When getting spare parts they are expensive. We have an older John Deere tractor at our family farm that thing is a tank and it's relatively simple to service compared to what's on the market today. That's what made John Deere! I feel they can do better if they return to their roots.

Gravely has slanted ROPS Also 1 looooooonnnnggg ass drive belt, Fabbed decks clog alot, Ferris are nice new but once the suspesion starts to wear out they are crap. The deck on the Deere isnt adjusted right. Should not have that much play. Loom on the deere could be nicer. Wish the deck didnt have recess on the pulleys. Wright makes Deere standers. Yeah there's a lot of dirt and stuff that gets up in there but maintain it after every use. That's what I do with mines. I clean it after every use. That way it will last. I can see that you're not taking care of it because it's just right down. Filthy clean it up after every use

Alot of conflicting information in the video. You went back and forth about JD and that it's not well built then you mention you are saying it's not a good machine so you leave your viewers confused. It would have been helpful just to have you do comparisons without shaming the brand which would be professional if you are in the business of selling mowers.

The 950m looks like someone beat the hell out of it for all 150 hours. Not a good comparison at all. Try harder next time.

I have a 10 year old gravely. I mow a little over two acres that is rough terrain with tree roots, fire ant hills, and uneven terrain. It is a beast. It does jar the breath out of you when you hit a low spot or hill, even though I have the best seat you can get on it. It is heavily built with a Kawasaki engine that is excellent. I keep the oil and filters changed. In 10 years I have only had to replace two belts. The blades seem to wear fast. That may be because of my yard quality. It does a good job and I like it. I especially like my Gravely dealer. I have nothing bad to say about the Gravely. But I don't know how others stack up. The new Gravely models "appear" to be of less quality than mine but I don't know.
I also own a compact JD tractor and I have a 60" belly more that I use sometimes. The tractor is really too big to uses as a mower in my yard but I love having a backup. But I must say that JD deck will throw some grass! But because of my limited use, I regret buying the belly mower for the JD since I don't really need it. I do mow the open spaced with the JD about ¼ of the time. But i probably wouldn't buy the mower again. Now, I LOVE the Deere tractor. It is engineered so much better that the Gravely, not that they should be compared. I am just saying Gravely makes tough mowers, but Deere has better ergonomics, design, and comfort. At least the Deere tractor does. I absolutely love the Deere tractor. I also like the Gravely very much but don't love it. I see it as more utilitarian.
That may make me a Deere homer. So be it. I think other tractors look like good machines too and may be a better "value" if money is the only consideration. But the Deere has a lot of value that can't be measured in dollars. It's like having a recliner vs. having a La-z-Boy. It's like having a Timex vs a Rolex. They bot get the job done, but one does it with more finesse, style, comfort, and a certain satisfaction of ownership. That's why Deere has fan-boys. Also, they are good investments, at least the tractors. Deere rips off people with their prices, but there is a reason they have so much market share.
That being said, I am anticipating replacing my Gravely in a year or so. Looking at prices, Deere seems to be about 10% higher. I have been looking at all the mowers out there and many seem very good. But I have Gravely and Deere dealers nearby. I just love the look and specs of the Deere and am seriously considering getting a Deere next time. I prefer the Gravely dealer and wish he sold Deere too. This review does not deter me from considering Deere in the least. I am not in the mowing business and I believe I would love the Deere if it is comparable to my tractor in engineering, handling, comfort, etc. The deck looks great to me unless you are trying to mow dow metal posts That would break a Gravely too! I believe this guy is a Deere hater and is showing us an abused Deere ZT. We all have our preferences, and my is Deere until someone shows me different.

I’ve had just about every brand except JD. Had a 930 priced just under $13k. The 950 is even more. That’s an expensive mower, even compared to other brands to be built so cheap. You guys can say all u want but u can’t make up things on a video. You could see it was cheaply built. A mower that expensive should have very little plastic and be built like a tank. You just talked me out of a 930! Thank you!
