    Great review, and I love the title of the video. Others have called it the most overhyped lt29er of 2018 but you nailed it. I have a large blue Ripmo with 942 hoops and factory suspension and couldn’t be happier. The bike flat out rips and gives confidence like I have never had before. I was considering the Hightower lt but after my Ripmo demo in early April my mind was set. I love the long reach, one of my main reasons for buying the bike!

    Alex...nailed it! Great unbiased review...I have ridden it and it is insane in every aspect (which was limited ). Finding one is the hardest thing right now so I went w the hd4 and I found it to be very similar for my needs. Ibis makes some of the best bikes for sure

    Man, this was a great overview. Got into the details that I wanted to hear about!
    This is in my top 5 for bikes that may make me sell my Yeti SB5+, so it was interesting to hear about it not being as plush. In some regards, I may actually like that over my SB5+ because I'm getting to the point where I'd prefer a do-it-all bike over a big cadillac that I can ride all day.
    Looking forward to the next vid!

    Well..... boooooo! 😂 Just kidding man, seriously great review! You nailed exactly what I felt in my review of the ripmo and why I don't think it's the best bike for me. I wanted the rear to be more plush and supple but the bike just wants to be pushed super hard and is super responsive. That's why I love bikes though! Every bike is perfect for someone! Now if only Evil would make a 140mm rear 29er - I think that'd be my spirit animal 😂
    Side note - your video should be called - the more hype appropriate bike of 2018 - because THE STOKE IS HIGH for the ripmo! Great job man!

    I loved this review and want the bike even more because of the detail and negative comments. This told me he was being completely honest. Also I could tell he was a highly skilled & experienced rider who really put the bike through its paces on good trails (I know the trails he spoke of). Kudos for being thorough and carefully explaining your conclusions!

      @alexthemtbr  6 лет назад +9

      Drew Blankenbecler adjustable would be ideal! It’s more about keeping the weight bias the same in each size. A 440mm chainstay for me at 6’1” would be equally playful as a 430mm Chainstay for someone at 5’5”
      Just my 2 cents.

      Alex Chamberlin yeah I tend to agree with there. Still don't dare sell my Yeti SB6c because it just feels so right and I think a part of that is because of the chainstay length I'm 6'1" and about about 235 pounds and can't ride for shit compared to you though.

    Great review Alex! How do you feel running a 51mm offset fork on a bike meant to run the new shorter 44mm offset? I’m currently running my Transition Sentinel with the standard 51mm offset fork as well but I do have the 44mm CSU on stand by. I haven’t really felt the need to switch but maybe I should just to see what all the hype is about.

    Hey Alex, if you wanted to make this bike more plush and planted in the back... what would you try? I demoed a Large (which was too small for me), with an X2 shock and found the rear end getting hung-up on repeated square-edge hits. I couldn't mess with the shock setup too much but took out most of the compression damping and it was still a bit firm. I know you're not supposed to run a coil on a DW link bike. or is that not true? thanks!! EDIT: You kind of cover the coil thing! thanks.

    Hey man i bought a ripmo based on what info you provided on your ig other reviews and yourube of course. I have the gx build with upgraded suspension (factory and float x2) and put some raceface next r carbon hoops with the vault hubs. It pedals really well wide open on climbs and goes downhill well also. I have an sb5 also so i can compare them. Climbing very similar to my sb5. I didnt even notice the slackness of the bike. Going dh picks up speed very fast and very good manueverabilty Only thing was tight switchbacks but i guess most 29ers have probs with tight switchbacks. Keep it up bro.

    Wassup Alex!
    First off, love the channel. I bought my SB6 after watching your vids a couple years ago I think. Great stuff. Sold the Sb6 and now I’m brain dead on what to get next. I had a Ripley LS before the SB6 and liked it but it was a little short on the reach for me. So I’m torn on the Ripmo, your review with others has me pumped to get one but I’m sketched on the sizing. I’m 6’4” about 230 with a pack and I’m worried the XL Ripmo might be small on me. So I might go with the new SB150 in that sexy orange. But that thing is longer than an 18 wheeler. How does the Ripmo handle tight switchbacks going up or down? The million dollar question is what would you go for? Sb150 or keep your Ripmo? Sorry for the long ass comment.

  • @ubnaka1
    @ubnaka1 6 лет назад

    I have a new Ripmo and love it! One issue I've had is in area between the linkage on the back side of the seat tube (in front of the rear tire)... It's the perfect spot for small rocks and dirt to settle into and with the action of the suspension the frame gets beat up. Have you had that issue?

  • @andrewbeveridge9178

    I demo'd a Ripmo and loved it, but ended up going with a lightly used Pivot Mach 5.5. Partly because of the silly long backorder on the Ripmo, but also just to have a smaller overall feeling bike (27.5, shorter stays, etc) for here in WI where the riding is typically pretty tight with lots of little punchy climbs. BUT, will likely own a Ripmo in the future. It just put a smile on my face to ride it.

    How are you finding them in comparison to the Shimano's you've run previously?

  • @mtbboy1993
    @mtbboy1993 6 лет назад +1

    Some brands make frames with adjustable geometry, with chain stay adjustment, shock placement, and so on, but it's rare, Nicolai got it. Pole also got longer chainstay.
    I haven't tried any of these, but they look promising, I definitely need longer reach, and longer wheelbase.
    Nicolai calls it MUTATOR its a part that can be swapped to make the chain stay longer. I also love that they use angular contact bearings & dual shear pivots.

    I'm currently riding a 2016 Trek Remedy 29er , which has 140mm of rear travel with a 160 Lyrik up front. The geometry numbers seem pretty similar to the Ripmo but the suspension platform is the main big difference. I'd be curious to find out how much more efficient the DW link suspension really is. The Trek climbs and descends really well, which is why I haven't sold it and bought a new bike yet. The Ripmo sounds like my kind of bike though. Probably a good thing I haven't had access to one.

    • @alexthemtbr
      @alexthemtbr  6 лет назад

      Chris Yates personal preference. I prefer riding with agile handling characteristics. That way you can drift, jump, manual, And weight your bike more effectively. All a long bike does is increase confidence in a straight line. Not once on a 5”+ travel bike have I felt twitchy in a straight line. Well maybe at 55+ mph down a fire road... but that’s only happened a few times in my life. Basically my point is, don’t by info the marketing. Especially for Enduro, where terrain is so wide spread and diverse. I guess if all the tracks I rode were super fast and straight where I could keep speed up, I would consider it, ex: World Cup dh

    Ah how perfect haha! I'll hopefully get an ibis very soon, but I'm totally stuck when it comes to picking. The Ripmo or the HD4... I want a very versatile bike that can do gnarly climbs for those very good Off-The-Grid trails but also one that can send it in the bike park. I've heard great things about the Ripmo (and now you haha), I'm just thinking if I really want that little less suspension travel. Now, I know it's not much and I'm probably just delusional but I really want the most I can get as I've heard that you can send it a bit too hard on the ripmo. I definitely want to wheelie and manual a lot and huck it quite a lot. What do you think? And also, if you had to pick, would you have the Float X2 shock or the Fox Factory fork? (I'm picking the GX build and I can only really afford on of them)
    Looking forward to your Maxxis video! Shred hard!

    • @alexthemtbr

    you have to try the X2 on this bike. I have about 200 miles on my ripmo with an X2; it provides so much more traction in all conditions. The suspension still bobs 2-3mm but is extremely manageable and efficient. You should look into it!

      After riding everything last year this was what I wanted on paper but it didnt exist yet - didnt think it was coming so soon. Demo'd it in April (stupidly) after buying a bike last October to confirm it was NOT all that great. Felt the same way you do and ordered it the day I demo'd...
      Question tho...I have a matter of days to switch my order from DPX2 to X2 before it ships...ive read all the mixed reviews there are and still a coin flip... whats your advice to all us buying whom Ibis wont send an X2 to try and dont want to drop $650 more for another shock to try? 😄

      Moritz Hartwig 275psi now. Dropped it 5 psi from where I started . It’s unusually high pressure for some reason

I'm looking for a bike under 1500 dollars, I'm recently looking into buying a BOSSNUT EVO from the UK but I want to know that is the right choice. Do you have any advice to give me or a bike better than this one on my budget. Please help me out out of Al the RUclipsrs I really believe what you're saying you seem really honest. Let me know . Thank you

    Great video and review. Nice to see someone tall review the ripmo. I'm torn between this and the new Bronson.
    Never owned a 29er but everyone keeps telling me its ideal for a tall guy like myself ( 6 ft 3in) that being said since your 6ft 1in do you find the 29 wheels fit you better or is it just preference for the endurance racing you do?
    Love the stand over clearance of this bike and steel seat angle. Would be great to be more centered over cranks when pedaling and get a huge dropper in there.
    I agree on chain stay length on L,XL frames. It's fun and playful at 430 ish but when u crank up the DH speed it would be nice to have it a tad longer for more stability for us giants
    Thanks for any feedback in advance

      Alex Chamberlin new hightower when is this going to drop? Fall I'm assuming since they just released new colors for current LT. So you would take a LT with the new bronson,nomad rear link over the Ripmo? I have to admit that does sound pretty sick set up if SC makes it

    That’s crazy about the dpx! I always just assumed it would be top of the line! And YT I think sm and md are short chain stays then large and xL are longer I like that idea! Don’t remember the lengths though!

    Great point about the weight! Didn't know it was so light and so it should be.
    I have been looking for a new bike and the weight of many trail bikes, high end carbon ones, are crazy. Evil frames are heavy also, even Santa Cruz frames like the Tallboy are over 6lbs. for the frame.
    I just don't get how there can be literally lbs in weight difference between carbon frames. That is like tieing a road frame to your bike,lol.
    I am leaning toward a lighter duty bike than the Ripmo coming from a 29er hardtail and basically set on the new Sniper Trail from Intense or, most likely the Rocky Mountain Instinct. The latter being less light duty but nt Enduro at 140mm with a light 5lbs frame.
