I just put Axial bead lock rims and Bf Goodrich Krawler tires on mine and it is a beast. I also upgraded the steering servo and put metal links on the rear. Great vid!
This video helped me decide to buy one. Its my first and only crawler to date. It is an incredibly capable vehicle. My mate runs an SCX10 so I've been able to compare the two & personally I prefer the hpi. I hope the company does better with product support than previously.
Great video. I have found our HPI Venture to be pretty much indestructable. Its been totally submerged in water, rolled down near vertical drops many times and it just keeps going. I found that filling the shocks with 20 weight oil really helps it look more scale like and a lot smoother when crawling.
I ordered one because of your tear down and review and hemistorms review and definitely do not regret it one bit just waitin for all my new parts and it’ll be ready to rip
as a novice rc'r I love this rig. seems marketed for someone like me (user friendly/easy to work on) but also the possibilities could be endless with aftermarket. I think HPI only missed hitting the bullseye with not having all metal 4 link system rtr. I love my two scx10's but I am getting this rig, simply because like ya say, simple (efficient) design, ease of low cost changes, metal gears, looks great and future aftermarket possibilities (which I think the simple design will help HPI achieve this). GREAT VIDEO, thank you.
I liked the looks of it a ton, and then I noticed Amain had them on sale. I did manage to get the last one and took it out to a local rock garden spot, it performed wonderfully in it's stock form. Only thing I'm going to add soon is lights because I got caught out on the trail after sundown. :) Great little car, well built and solid.
I just bought a K10 Ascender RTR, and also have an SCX10 II Cherokee RTR pre-roller to build up, so I doubt I’ll be getting any new rigs for awhile. Depending on how the HPI does over the next 4-5 months, I might possibly get one next spring.
I have the venture i love it ii have put on a lot of after market parts to make the front end even stronger have move the battery up side ways behind the diff put trx4 bronco tires on it love the way it runs.
Will you do a video on the GEN7 Redcat also ? I know, it's Redcat, but they seem to be pushing hard to get into that segment. Hell, i bought one (the PRO) and am quite pleased with what i got for the price. Some things i noted : Cons -High CG (cage inside the body which is heavy, also spare tire on roof rack) -Tire foams are "meh" at first and horrible once wet -Steering angle not that good in stock form, though you are able to mod it free by cutting a knob on the knuckles. -Transmission gears are plastic it seems, but have not stripped one yet Pros -Great stock tire, licensed Super Swampers -5 Beadlocks (spare is too) -Bumpers quite flexible which allow some hard falls without issues -Diff gears looks identical to Axial SCX10.1, which would allow to run heavy duty spiral cut gears from Axial in them -CVDs (on the PRO model) -Body pivots from the back and the front is velcro-ed, i like this alot over body posts/clips but this is personal preference -BPC Chassis with lots of adjustment possible for links and shocks -Transmitter is a GT2A copy, i put it in the "Pros" because the old one that came with the RS10 was way worse and had steering wheel play like you wouldn't believe, this new one is pretty solid and works well for basic use.
I think it's a cool truck. I don't know what happened to HPI but they went from top of the heap to struggling. I say if you like it, buy it, it's not a major investment and chances of needing parts is slim. Well built crawlers last for years. You'll get you money out it.
HPI needs this in the market, i like HPI products, i currently own more HPI stuff than i do traxxas. I like traxxas too but i feel traxxas is geared more towards people that are just getting into the hobby, mainly because i prefer kits and traxxas doesnt offer them
They have a kit of the TRX-4 for a while now. Granted its 20% prebuilt but at least they started doing it. Youre right about them getting geared more for newbies tho
Hi, This is one of best videos I’ve seen for a long time !!! Well presented with great content. Lv the upgrades you have done ? I would appreciate your recommendations on the upgraded components you have used. I’m hoping to Purchase this car and your suggestions on the body shell would also be appreciated. Thankyou.
I'm looking into picking up an HPI Venture as my next "truck of the month club" truck. Been doing a little research and am concerned this truck may not have enough of a following, and it's future might be in question. Also I saw a rumor that Traxxas bought HPI. I would like to hear your opinion on the truck two years after you made this video, Josh. Thanks. Or should I just pick up the body and put it on my TRX4 Sport chassis? :)
I think it has a lot of potential, we just have to wait and see how the company rebuilding goes. from what i understand they had to restart the company from scratch (Josh do you know if that was the case?)
I will not invest in HPI ever again after having owned a serveral Cyclone S, Cyclone, Cyclone Black Ed., Cyclone TC, Pro-D, TC-D, TC-FD and the Cup Racer. This company is a pain, their support for parts and afternarket parts suck! They also have this habbit of making thier kits obsolete in record time... a pain in the behind!
Agreed, and we'll said. After building my cup racer i am not a fan. Only kit out of 40+ that I've built that was miserable. Then it was discontinued quickly, witty crappy parts support and service. They've earned the position they have in the overall market.
+Harrison Hawkins budget builds must have lots of options available to maintain a weekly schedule. I don’t see this truck having anything like that in the near future.
-Slightly less expensive -REALLY good motor layout -Easy to mod -very straightforward assembly/disassembly, which makes on the go repairs a breeze. Its not the secret weapon (anymore) but it has some things going for it and has its place in the market,
+Legoman585 it’s a good chunk less money. If the support of the truck picks up, then it could be an option. Otherwise I would choose a SCX10-2 first also.
The price difference in Australia is very little scx10 ii RTR $599 AUD & Hpi Venture RTR $549 AUD. I do get it, there is the front mount allready done but its also got that silly Y link
Finally I see someone else talk about the delays I thought it was just me being stupid about not finding this car if there's a creek go buy crawler and drive it
Naaaah I disagree bout the tires.. the trx4 tires are one of the best stock tires u can get.. I kno I tried several tires n the trx4 tires wer the best.. same wit the venture..
Good old Venture. I still have mine. Mine rocks a JConcepts Ford F250 tucked body and Pitbull Mad Beast tires. Still a great chassis.
-Matt
Finally built the sbk
I have one on order! At this writing I see parts upgrades available!
yes finally a video like the olddays
I just put Axial bead lock rims and Bf Goodrich Krawler tires on mine and it is a beast. I also upgraded the steering servo and put metal links on the rear. Great vid!
Hopefully we'll see a link kit from VP, whether under the Vanquish or Incision line soon.

Thank you VERY much for your review. Video's like this help RC fans like me make more informed decisions on investing in certain RC's.
I ordered one because of your tear down and review and hemistorms review and definitely do not regret it one bit just waitin for all my new parts and it’ll be ready to rip
Nice upgrades and modifications I’m excited to see a build series on this rig if like you said if the aftermarket provides for this company.
as a novice rc'r I love this rig. seems marketed for someone like me (user friendly/easy to work on) but also the possibilities could be endless with aftermarket. Yes we need vp stuff ASAP
Exclusive rc has already started to make Scale items for this truck. grill, door handles, and much more.
That's a nice rig HPI did a great job on it.
My first rc was an hpi (hpi Rush) and my second rc was a hpi nitro rs4. Can't wait to get this once my lhs restock
Great overview, as always
Great info, tips & insights make for a great video imo & y'all nailed that & then some. Excellent job, thanks for sharing it with us.

Have 2..absolutelly love them.
Love those Vanquish wheels! I put the Vanquish 105’s on my Traxxas TRX4👍🏼
I have the venture i love it ii have put on a lot of after market parts to make the front end even stronger have move the battery up side ways behind the diff put trx4 bronco tires on it love the way it runs.

+Dave Racine I have two of the pro kits at the shop. I just can’t decide if I’m going to cover them or not. It has me torn.
I like body postless mounts, only a couple of my builds still have body posts because they ruin the look of a scale build
I want one! if it's "Harley approved" it's on my good list!
I think it's a cool truck. I don't know what happened to HPI but they went from top of the heap to struggling. I say if you like it, buy it, it's not a major investment and chances of needing parts is slim. Well built crawlers last for years. You'll get you money out it.

Yep. HPI > Traxxas

Love it mate great video. What size are the rims and tyres? I reckon they look awesome on the fj
Looks great, I've purchased one last week just waiting for it to arrive in the mail now.
Was wondering what all your final link lengths where?
I cannot find that battery tray on BPC web site. Is it a new (or old) model?
Great review, thank you!
PART: #BPC/BPC007
Can't find aluminum axle housings. I will use Beef Tubes to add strength and weight.
Link to battery tray?

I’d suggest choosing a different vehicle. Not one I would recommend with its questionable future.
Thanks, Josh, and thanks for all you do for the sport. As a former Toyota employee, I really like the truck, so I'll look for a body. :)
Got one on the way. It seems simple (wich i like) with the core part of the truck seeming really stouth. BUT i do want Vanquish part's *wink*wink*
Will u b doin a good look at the new carisma coyote they just brought out m8 that phi looks good n grate truck m8 👍👍👍
hello, what is the size of the links and how can i get metal ones for the hpi venture, i have one on order, thank you
When r u going to make a vid on the red cat
Can you tell me what offset hub you used for the vanquish wheels For the HPI
Awesome
I think it has a lot of potential, we just have to wait and see how the company rebuilding goes. from what i understand they had to restart the company from scratch (Josh do you know if that was the case?)
+Warwick Eion Campbell yes the new company had to basically retool a new factory.
If only there was a bare bones kit......
Did you have to raise the body to make the 1.9 tires fit ?
Doesn't it also come with a battery included? I think that if so the price is even better, almost impossible to compare.
+ArielsSmartyPants that’s correct, but it’s a NiMH battery so many won’t see it as a value at all.
iam waiting on trx-4 79 bronco only thing that stinks i need to wait a year
its not a year. it comes out this january
I am more interested in the TRX-4 kit.
Any ETA on that?
yeah i saw that was coming out i can check for ya
ware did you put your electronics and do you still use your hpi any more ?
Where did you get that BPC battery tray? Is that a discontinued item/product?
+Bombel006 I got it from BPC here it n Sacramento at RC Country.

I think you forgot to mention that it comes with dogbones in the front...or am I thinking of another truck?
+3R45U5 you’re correct, I did forget to mention that and it is definitely worth mentioning.
I’d like to know what links got used I’d get one if I could swap out links ASAP
he made custom links on tear down video there
What foams you used for that wheel and tire set up?
Crawler Innovations 4.5" two stage, soft front outers and medium rear outers with comp cut inners.
Between the venture and 10.2 which would you prefer over the other?
+CRAWL HARD RC I’d have the SCX10-2 first at this point.
What hub size did you use for wheels
+Rachad Achkar I used 350’s but added the center cap. So that’s the same offset as a 475.
Are those not the Axial scx10ii tires?
+Chris Ennis same license but a much different size.
i have the gun metal color venture
Budget build? Like the deadbolt?
+Harrison Hawkins budget builds must have lots of options available to maintain a weekly schedule. I don’t see this truck having anything like that in the near future.
Harley Designs good point any update on the deadbolt?
just scored one at rc country for $200.
almost the same price as a scx10 ii why would you
-Slightly less expensive
-REALLY good motor layout
-Easy to mod
-very straightforward assembly/disassembly, which makes on the go repairs a breeze.
Its not the secret weapon (anymore) but it has some things going for it and has its place in the market,

$369? I can’t find this thing for under $399...😒
Yeah, the price was raised by HPI after this video
it would be nice if you could actually buy it
+josh cokenes yeah I figured we were past the delays. They are killing this car with all the hold ups.
i cant wait there is a big creek right behind my house
Finally I see someone else talk about the delays I thought it was just me being stupid about not finding this car if there's a creek go buy crawler and drive it
owned a ton of HPI and HB products before and the support sucks and the local distro sucks... never again for me, sorry!
Naaaah I disagree bout the tires.. the trx4 tires are one of the best stock tires u can get.. I kno I tried several tires n the trx4 tires wer the best.. same wit the venture..
Any bad review
Nah it's good
