The rear shock bodies interfere with the hoops when you do this and causes the shock shaft to be at an angle not to mention the springs are stiffer in the front because thats where the battery is. The rest of the mods are good though.
If you have any binding just use the small spacers on the spare parts tree in the kit. The stiffer spring are used in the front for that reason yes but swapping them softens the truck up as a whole and makes the truck more predictable in its stock form because of how light it is.
Josh, that Volt Meter is definitely one of your better ideas! 👏👏👏👏 I'm almost glad I couldn't afford the original Deadbolt.... This one's better, more capable, and STILL $299!! Now I just need to find $299.... 😖😭😭 (Disabled Veteran Problems) Thanks for all the free tricks! They're very appreciated. Carmine 🍺
Another great video thanks! One note though, instead of moving the springs around all you have to do is grab a set of green (1.7#) axial springs for the front. Only a few bucks and transforms the truck feel.
Just a note... I just used your idea for trimming the CRC Front Bumper. On my SCX10 II RAW Builder's Kit, it gave me a NOTICEABLE improvement in Approach Angle! Thanks. 👍👍 Carmine 💥 ⛽
I didn't care for the lights either so took them off, but I also didnt like the front grill on the body, so I cut out the front grill area and mounted the lights in it as a grill. Turned out awesome and cost 0.00 $.
Thanks Harley for another great video. Is there somewhere to purchase the volt meter mount for us that do not have a 3D printer ? Keep up the great work.
After the suspension mod my front end is almost bottomed out. Seems like the softer springs can't hold the weight of the front end. This causes the tires to rub on the front fender flares too easily.
Mine did the same thing but I’m brand new to this stuff and wasn’t sure if that was the intended result or not... definitely not seeing any drastic improvements just different
Hey there Josh , if it isn't Josh sorry , I have a axial smt10 grave digger I was going too put some boom racing boomerang internal piggyback shocks on but I think they are discontinued BUMMER , I hope too find some that look as close to the real thing as possible , any suggestions ? On a buget.
So, question on the body drop... Just got my first 10th scale crawler the Deadbolt of course. Love the video I have used the reverse springs and rear post positions but about the body drop. the front rubs quite a bit. what did you do to correct this if anything?
These new plastic links from Axial are actually pretty good! They are way better than the old days. I ran them for a long time on my honcho with no signs of bending.
Hi!Great Video! I just Purchased My First Crawler and i am so glad i went with the scx10 2..Do you recommend a good set of wheels and tires to put on ??
Looking to race this in the U4RC Trail Class (Rock Racing) Can you advise on upgrading the motor and gears to increase speed but not loose the ability to get over rocks. Thanks great videos :)
Hi Harley STRC makes exact duplicates of parts correct I'm trying to do your shock hoop flip but when I flip them the holes don't line up ugh I'm frustrated lol
Great video on mods for the Deadbolt. I just received my deadbolt 2 and notice the wheels are extremely warped. Is there something one can do to correct the warp in the wheels? Is this common for these trucks to come with warped wheels?
I follow your video for the suspension part of it. But now my rear suspension is very stiff, to the point that when I push the rear suspension down it get stuck. It doesn't bounce back.
Great video 👍🏻 I love free upgrades !!! Could you do a video on the old Deadbolt and the new Deadbolt to see the difference between the 2 I’m going to buy a Deadbolt and don’t know if the new or old is a better rig ??? Thank you
I’ll second that. I had the original and just recently bought the II. There are plenty of SCX10 vs SCX10 II comparison videos that will showcase the significant differences.
true but mines a f250 honcho style one and my body is set as high as possible and if i cut any more arch out i'll be cutting the door lol and it dont look good with smaller tires (120mm trepadors) i think mine's more for looks than performance lol
You can change the body on anything, there are lots of options. Most will be 12.3” wheelbase though so you’ll need to change the rear links with the other included links in the box.
Harley Designs thanks for the prompt reply been looking for this or the scx10ii jeep cherokee any particular difference or just the body style or cosmetics or upgraded parts
Yes you can switch springs on the Cherokee. You can also swap rear shock towers & move them forward to second hole from the middle of the chassis. You won’t have to make new body holes. If you need pics, just let me know
The mods are no good if you change position of the shock towers you will get bind with stock shocks almost broke my rig I really like the channel though no offense intended
If the top of your shocks are binding before you get the amount of flex that you want, then you can use a 2mm spacer between the shock and the shock tower. You will need to do some significant trimming of the rear fenders if you do this because you the truck will travel a decent amount more. It's up to you if you want to cut more.
You cannot properly run a 4link with chassis mounted servo. A panhard is needed to counteract the force of the servo. There is no advantage to going to a 4-link with CMS.
I have been into rc's for 30 yrs. Every time I watch your videos I'm amazed at how much I learn from your budget builds and cheap mods. Great job.
They're going to be really mad at you for Dremelling in the office. Excellent video Josh!
I swapped my 10ii jeep to my redcat gen8 and an old deadbolt body to the 10ii. This helped get some more performance out of it. 🤘🏻
Nothing better than a free mod!! A Knight Customs grill would look great on the front of this as well as some inner fenders! Great work!
I did the spring swap. Was horrible driving like that. Swapped back to stock setup.
Just got my son in law in the game. He liked my old Falken scx10, so went for one of these.good info. 1-22
My deadbolt has a carbon fiber wrap and a carbon fiber soft top looks awesome
I have the Toyota version and these mods helped a bunch. Thanks for the detailed video.
Try putting 2 of the light bar light buckets in the front headlights
Thank you for all the mods.
Thanks Josh. I’m trying to lower the center of gravity on my SCX10ii and some of tips should help.

The power meter is one of your best ideas. 🐫
Great mods! Mine comes tomorrow. Pumped! Love mods like your battery voltage install. Super cool!
Just a note... I just used your idea for trimming the CRC Front Bumper. On my SCX10 II RAW Builder's Kit, it gave me a NOTICEABLE improvement in Approach Angle! Thanks. 👍👍
Carmine 💥 ⛽
Thanks for this man. Great info for me tossing up between deadbolt and honcho.
I'm a little late here but gotta give a thank you for this video.
Awesome tips, dam it...now I have to choose between deadbolt or honcho!
I didn't care for the lights either so took them off, but I also didnt like the front grill on the body, so I cut out the front grill area and mounted the lights in it
as a grill. Turned out awesome and cost 0.00 $.
Just posted a video on my channel if anyone wants to see it. Let me know what you think.
such a great vid - got one for my son yesterday!
Thanks for sharing your tips 👍
Thanks Harley for another great video. Is there somewhere to purchase the volt meter mount for us that do not have a 3D printer ? Keep up the great work.
i just ordered one from amazon for 7.99 its alittle bigger i had to put it on the passenger side floor board but it works great!
i did all the free mods for now its sweet, thanks!
Great tips! Love the easy suspension drop.
What a great video... This helped me decide on the next crawler.
That volt meter is sick!
After the suspension mod my front end is almost bottomed out. Seems like the softer springs can't hold the weight of the front end. This causes the tires to rub on the front fender flares too easily.

Good tips. And easy for most to do thanks for sharing.
How do you go about installing lights on the deadbolt what has the ae-5 esc? thanks
Great video as always. How about putting in some of your homemade links to replace the plastic ones?
These new plastic links from Axial are actually pretty good! They are way better than the old days. I ran them for a long time on my honcho with no signs of bending.

Very nice video , LOVE deadbolt body 👍👍👍
Those tips, tricks and ideas are genius, especially for the price.
Wow. 😀👍👍👍
Always Always Good Info , Thanks
Hi Harley STRC makes exact duplicates of parts correct I'm trying to do your shock hoop flip but when I flip them the holes don't line up ugh I'm frustrated lol
It’s hard to count on them to make exact duplicates. They could have changed it and caused them not to work. That sucks.
Harley in the original position it's fine you would think if I flipped them as you show it would work
Nice tips for the deadbolt 2 right out of the box. Are you going to have a running video of this rig?
I’ve been trying to find time, but it just hasn’t happened. If I get a chance I will, but no promises yet.
Harley Designs ok cool thanks for replying
Great video.. where to get the volt meter?
I’ll add the link in the description right now
Great video on mods for the Deadbolt. I just received my deadbolt 2 and notice the wheels are extremely warped. Is there something one can do to correct the warp in the wheels? Is this common for these trucks to come with warped wheels?
It’s just the tires moving, it’s not something wrong. Just drive it. It’s only noticeable when on a bench.
Would You recommend deadbolt 2 or the Honcho for a starter rig?
I switched the back bracket and the body does not line up
I follow your video for the suspension part of it. But now my rear suspension is very stiff, to the point that when I push the rear suspension down it get stuck. It doesn't bounce back.
You’ve got something binding up, check clearances.
What does changing the position of the rear shock towers do? And changing the front-back springs, should I do that on my 2017 JK as well?
do you know if they made a replacement case for the front axles haven't been able to find them just curious incase my honcho breaks lol.
Great tips!
I love free mods!
Great video 👍🏻
I love free upgrades !!!
Could you do a video on the old Deadbolt and the new Deadbolt to see the difference between the 2 I’m going to buy a Deadbolt and don’t know if the new or old is a better rig ???
Thank you
I don't have any old deadbolts. The 2.0 is the only way to go, the original is much more outdated now.
Harley Designs
Thank you !!!
I’ll second that. I had the original and just recently bought the II. There are plenty of SCX10 vs SCX10 II comparison videos that will showcase the significant differences.
Is there somewhere to buy the volt meter housing if you don’t have a 3 d printer ?
cool modes
Thanks for sharing !
What's the advantages of swapping out the springs and changing the rear shock angle?
It lowers the ride height, and softens the suspension. The suspension can be a little firm out of the box and this helps quite a lot.
@@HarleyDesignsInc thank you. I went ahead and did it. Now time for some testing this weekend
Why did you cut the body? Couldn't you raise the turrets?
Lower the height the better. Fits in tighter spots and generally lower weight.
@@HarleyDesignsInc ok! Thanks so much!
Great video
Where did you say that file for the volt meter cover is at? I would like to get some made
I have added the download link to the description
Stuck with my old one
cool but don't the body rub now ? (i get angry when mine rubs lol )
Body rub is not a big deal, but it's easily solved with a pair of lexan scissors if needed.
true but mines a f250 honcho style one and my body is set as high as possible and if i cut any more arch out i'll be cutting the door lol and it dont look good with smaller tires (120mm trepadors) i think mine's more for looks than performance lol
Good video music is tearable
Did you solder the white and red to battery positive?
Nevermind. Saw the photos on the amazon page. White + Red to positive for sources over 3v.
Yup, you got it!
I noticed your shirt, did you work on that game?
No, I just know the developers and really like the game.
@@HarleyDesignsIncyeah it is
Can you do other body style on this
You can change the body on anything, there are lots of options. Most will be 12.3” wheelbase though so you’ll need to change the rear links with the other included links in the box.
Harley Designs thanks for the prompt reply been looking for this or the scx10ii jeep cherokee any particular difference or just the body style or cosmetics or upgraded parts
I will buy my first rc crawler. wich one you recommend as a first medium or low budget crawler?
scx10.2
Does the switching the spring mod work on the Cherokee 10.2
Not without making new holes in the body. But if you make new holes, then yes you can do this same mod.
The one were you switch springs from front axle to back
Yes you can switch springs on the Cherokee. You can also swap rear shock towers & move them forward to second hole from the middle of the chassis. You won’t have to make new body holes. If you need pics, just let me know
Free mods 👌🏽🙌🏽
Cool
Rip. Rear stock shocks bind and flex is horrible, or non existent.
The mods are no good if you change position of the shock towers you will get bind with stock shocks almost broke my rig I really like the channel though no offense intended

Harley Designs awesome thanks I'm going to try white shocks on front and back
Harley Designs would it break the servo if I went four link in the front
You cannot properly run a 4link with chassis mounted servo. A panhard is needed to counteract the force of the servo. There is no advantage to going to a 4-link with CMS.
Harley Designs were you binding up in the rear without spacers as well?
