    I used to grow Episcia like 24 years ago. Pink Brochade, Cleopatra, Pink Dreams, Pink Satin and the other pink ones. The prettiest Episcia I have ever seen is Ember Lace.

    Hello Miro this is not only a clever way for measurement, but is a way that the rest of the liquid doesn't get in contact with air. So do not open the other side it not needed, it will keep the liquid better for longer. Canna is a well known Company for fertilizer in Coco, soil and Hydro. Great company.

    New Zealand tree Fern bark is awesome to mix in for moisture retention, sustainable too👍🍃💚🌿 Love your new Begonias, gorgeous!!! 😍 I have a Rhizotamous Begonia called Boomer, have had it for 20 years. I actually use mostly coco husk also mixed with pumice, charcoal, orchiata bark and bat guano, i just wanted to try the tree fern bark, i agree its pricey!

    • @BasiePlants
      @BasiePlants  3 месяца назад +2

      Oh that one is very pretty and from what I see, it gets to be HUGE. Well, I think there are other things that can be added in the mix for moisture retention and are sustainable as well :) I think one always needs to weigh in some other factors if we truly want sustainability - for example, is it better to get vermiculite that is available locally or order tree fern that has to be shipped from Netherlands to me? And it is a long way :)

    That Episcia Pink Brocade 😍
    It still blows my mind that leaves can have such colours!
    Still loving my Episcia Shimmering Valley, it looks similar, probably a different leaf pattern.
    I have a thought on why they don’t include the cable with the light.
    If someone wants several lights to daisychain, they don’t need all those cables..
    I still think they should offer them with and without cable then if that is the reason.
    I’ve repotted some Pipers and will repot the plants and propagations that I am purging (giving away) so that they will have a food start
    Theres always more space for plants, but not always space for Miro it seems? 😅

    • @BasiePlants
      @BasiePlants  3 месяца назад +1

      I JUST WANTED TO GET SHIMMERING VALLEY! She didn't have it thoooough, So cruel. Have you seeb Ember Lace? It is sooooo pretty! There are a lot of episcia cultivars that look very similar, I have no diea how to tell some apart tbh xD Yeah they say that is why they don't offer the cable. I know it makes sense, but it still feels like a scam somehow to me xD Like when Apple ditched the chargers :D Oh there are some very nice Piper sp. that I have seen recently. I really like the look but I remember having that one of the most common Pipers in cultivation and it makes that black stuff on the back that really creeps me out. Do they all do it?

    • @Wubblyt
      @Wubblyt 3 месяца назад

      @@BasiePlants They look similar, so it is like you already have it 😉.
      Goodness, Ember lace has pink flowers! 🌸😍
      I never really got into Episcia, since there weren’t many available here a couple of years back, the Shimmering Valley I do have arrived molten and took months to rehab, with little to no info about them on the internet (that I could find anyway). It is still thriving though, so maybe it is worth looking into again 😊
      Oh I so dislike Apple for that, I bought a Samsung plug for my Iphone 😂.
      I have a few different Pipers, they all make the clear crystals that later turn black, its harmless though, but I can understand why it creeps you out. I like them, there is great variety and they don’t take up a lot of space.

    • @coen3466
      @coen3466 3 месяца назад

      @@BasiePlants no coir or fiber at all. The pieces are around 0.5-1cm, but they come dry so they’re easy to break up if desired. @BasiePlants  3 месяца назад +2

      It is! Even more gorgeous in real life 🥰 I agree, it is a rip off. And they claim the reason they did that is so the light is cheaper, in case you don’t need a cable because you are daisy chaining them 😂

      I can’t find a pink brocade in germany online at the moment☹️ but i’ll search time to time. And omg the overwatered one in the end (i just watched till the end), i did it a few days ago to my quite big verticillata, i actually wanted to rank it, and it was hanging. I give always to hanging ones a little more water to do it every two weeks… well after two weeks i was expecting it would be dry but i was so wrong, there was like half of the pot in the water… roots falling apart, i gave it new potting mix and i am waiting, leaves are softer, but i dont want to cut it so much

    • @terrapie23
      @terrapie23 3 месяца назад

      Oh and the fertiliser, I use Hesi about a year and everything is great, its not strong, and you can choose between organic, hydro and coco lines

    • @BasiePlants
      @BasiePlants  3 месяца назад +1

      @@terrapie23 oh noooo :( I did that many times too, but my hanging plants have a saucer (we don't have pots with no drainage) so if I am not careful, the water comes running out. I am sure your verticillata will recover, they are tough plants! If you have a propbox, you can reroot the entire plant as a whole - just make sure to clean of the roots first and a fresh potting mix - but it sounds like you did that already :) Good luck in finding the Episcia

    "Sometimes plants are disgusting." It's funny because it's true. I didn't do any plant chores this weekend. I planned to stop by a local nursery to buy a couple of pots that I need for a repotting session and then thought I'd drop by another nursery that I like just to browse. But it was 91 degrees Fahrenheit today and I didn't feel like bursting into flames. I'm sticking a pin in that for now. I just bought my first two anthuriums about a month ago and am warning myself to "be cool" for reasons other than the stupid weather. I need another plant obsession like I need a hole in the head. That said, another local nursery is having a big houseplant event next weekend and keeps showing a picture of a Zara/Michelle in their promotions. So cool might not work out for me. (No surprise there.)

    • @BasiePlants
      @BasiePlants  3 месяца назад +2

      Hahahahaha saaaame. I did not need this begonia + gesneriad obsession at all. However, Doc Block crosses are magnificent. They are very expensive but beyond beautiful and should all be very easy going. I am particulary in love with Michelle and Black Widow. I also need to go out and buy some new pots but it is 109.4F today so I think not xD

    • @amymarshall1829
      @amymarshall1829 3 месяца назад

      @BasiePlants 109.4F is inhumane. I try not to complain about cold weather in the winter so that I can feel free to b×tch all summer long about the heat. Haha. I am hoping that the expense and the potential size of anthuriums will keep me rational, but history and Doc Block Michelle suggest that I might not be successful. The episcias that you are showing are also giving me pause, but I think I'll see how it goes for you before I commit. No pressure. 😉

      @BasiePlants  3 месяца назад +1

      Well, there were two cuttings in the pot, one tanked, other one is fine so it still will look good. I am not sure what went wrong, I will have to take it all out and diagnose it, but I am pretty sure oil treatment is a big culprit.
