Many use a special pavement material beyond the end of a runway called engineered materials arresting system (EMAS) that will break apart and slow down a plane that goes beyond the end of the runway. At least in the United States, a commercial airport is recommended to have at least 1000 feet beyond the nominal end of the runway for overshoot, and some airports use this special material. @@tommytomas-fr3sh Human error is inevitable and it's understandable when it comes to a situation like this. But come on man we can't just fully blame the pilot, he made a decision which to him was correct at the time.
On most aircraft, the No.1 engine usually powers the main electronics and hyrdaulics of the aircraft. If both, or just the No.1 were hit by birds, then the gear MAY not work. However, this is unlikely which makes me think this may not have been a bird strike.

@tylermasonry8282 We don’t know what happened. The 737-800 has three levers located beneath a floor panel within reach of the copilot. Pulling the levers releases the gear up lock and allows the landing gear to free fall into position. Dunno how both that and the hydraulics could have malfunctioned, or why the reverse2 wasn’t deployed.
Bird strike made the landing gear malfunction? The media is mind conditioning us to believe that it is not the lack of maintenance that caused the accident.
It seems like a mindless planning oversight to have a wall like this right next to the runway. This Christmas has been terrible for aviation, two planes slid off runways in Norway, the Russians shooting down another passenger jet, and now this. Terrible.

@nate6045 you could say the same thing about anywhere else in the world.
Why concrete wall instead of a fence? Were there a cliff behind the wall? I don't understand.
You can look up the airport on Google Maps or Baidu or any equivalent app. It's mostly fields, with a just a few houses to the left a few hundred metres beyond the airport boundary.
instead of blaming the wall, why don't look at the pilot's action...landing without gear and trying to take off again but then deciding to stop.
I think other airport had fences instead of walls. I don't understand this too.
@@tommytomas-fr3sh Human error is inevitable and it's understandable when it comes to a situation like this. But come on man we can't just fully blame the pilot, he made a decision which to him was correct at the time.
Its not a wall, its called Instrument Landing System (ILS) localizer.
How tf does a birdstrike cause the landing gear to malfunction
high speed impact. also heard of some kind of birds/geese getting stuck in engines in the air. This was in NY.
@@slevinlindsay3624 Once again, how does that affect the landing gear though
@@slevinlindsay3624 probably similar to how space debris would hit the ISS
Sounds like the damage to the turbine caused an explosion. Shrapnel could have damaged hydraulics or wiring.
On most aircraft, the No.1 engine usually powers the main electronics and hyrdaulics of the aircraft. If both, or just the No.1 were hit by birds, then the gear MAY not work. However, this is unlikely which makes me think this may not have been a bird strike.
I want to give my deep condolences to the families whose relatives passed away at this catastrophe.
This is the first crash before 2025 is quite horrifying. Rest in peace for those.
This is the 2nd in this week
It didn't hit a wall, it hit a berm made of raised dirt that was located a few meters before the wall. That doesn't change how horrifying this disaster is though; what a horrible week for aviation...
its a WALL!!!
then maybe take out the wall and the berm?
@@amoxl114the airport only has land up to the wall lol. If you remove the wall your just gonna end up with some other protrusion for it to crash into. We cant just level the whole earth for pilots who dont know how to not overshoot a landing

stopped the video at 9 seconds and zoomed into the cockpit. Is the pilot's arm visible in the glass?
What’s the significance of that?

My condolences to their bloodline and their loved ones 😢
My deepest sympathy on the loss. A bird strike at very low altitude rendering the engines damaged would leave the pilots in shock with little or no time to deploy the landing gear, perhaps to prevent a repeat of this tragedy there should be a system that deploys the landing gear automatically.
Horrifying. Within one week, two air crash fatal accidents. 😲😬😰😱😱😢😭😭🙏🙏
yeah, but one was shot down and still half of it remained intact.

Fact
I agree. Without a wall friction would have slowed it down, and even if it had hit other things, there wouldn’t have been such a catastrophic explosion :(
This is definitely not the kinda news that one should wake up to. 😢😢😢
Why was there a fence in there to begin with? No homes or anything were there.
Prayers to all the families of those who perished 😢
I express my heartfelt condolences to those who lost their loved ones.
The fact the day after the next day is another more deadly crash, like it’s horrible
2 in one week is crazy, who ever put the wall there needs jail time. R.I.P. to the lost souls
actually, the plane crashed into a small hill, like an embankment. If you see closely, the concrete wall was actually a bit far, and the plane was already destroyed before hitting the concrete wall, since the debris simply went airborne for a few seconds.
@@TaivaAlkifasa true, but it made it worse.
Absolutely devastating
Another day, another plane in pieces, another discovery vitality ad asking me if I'd like to travel😂
I never felt more grateful to be alive after seeing this video, I visited South Korea about 2 months ago. Just the thought I'd arrive either on fire or in pieces scares me.
It give me chills just thinking about the people panicking inside the aircraft just before the crash. Condolences to the family of the innocent people who died in this horrific crash.
SK can't catch a break jeez
Of course. It is a Boeing 737-800. I am not flying on these anymore.

you can only imagine the heartbreak felt by the families. so very terrifying and sad. sympathies from the UK
😢so sad my deepest condolences 🥺
This is my anxiety riding airplanes 😰
I can assure you, flying is still the safest mode of transportation, even if the airline is from Nepal (one of the worst country for aviation safety) as your chances of dying from a plane is 1/11 million instead of 1/5000 (for driving), and each year aviation safety gets better.
You have a higher chance of dying in a car crash than a plane crash.
@@FlyingPandaaa I mean to be fair, pilots are more sophisticated people than your average car owner.
I'll take a bus or drive a car across country myself.
Statisticians and supporters of statistical thinking are quick to jump on that one. But fear doesn’t need to be rational or proportionally aligned with statistics.
i mean ive seen accident on the road more frequently
Condolences. RIP.
I'm from South Korea and I just feel devastated for these people who lost their lives, and I kept thinking to myself that could have been me in the crash.
So very sad. My heart is hurting for the lives that were lost and the family they left behind.
CRAZY WHAT HAPPENED TO THE STANDARDS OF MAINTENANCE CHECK UPS
You have no idea what caused this..
Only when you go East...
Whats happenin in south korea😭😭why is there a wall? Thats so weird, first time seeing a wall in runaway🤨
It seems like a mindless planning oversight to have a wall like this right next to the runway.
This Christmas has been terrible for aviation, two planes slid off runways in Norway, the Russians shooting down another passenger jet, and now this. Terrible.
actually, the plane crashed into a small hill, like an embankment. If you see closely, the concrete wall was actually a bit far, and the plane was already destroyed before hitting the concrete wall, since the debris simply went airborne for a few seconds.
