BMW should just make E39s and E46s again. I really don't care for their new models. They're just not the same.
I have owned an E36, an E46, an E91, and finally my wife's pick for us, an F48. My 2 litre E46 touring was the best looking and best BMW to drive car that I have ever owned, my biggest mistake upgrading to the E 91.

Vehicle speed sensor vs GPS positioning and you expect them to perfectly match ? LOL.
@@CMDRRustyDog It's normally the opposite. It's OK to have up to 10-15% positive fault tolerance (speedo showing too high), but illegal with the slightest negative.

It really needs 6 gear like 330d facelift did, but dope car.
The 6 speed gearbox is a lot less strong. We are currently swapping a similar engine in to a e28 and we're going for a 5 speed as well, simply because the 6 speed for this engine is trash when you want to make power
@@DrivenbyDrivers yeah i heard the same but if I'm going to do a transmission overhaul and rebuild I might tweak the 5th gear ratio(replace the 5th gear) to be more conservative to the engine since now it does 3500rpm at 130kmh I would like it to be around 3000 maybe 2800. depends.

@@DrivenbyDrivers Who told you that, the 6 speed manual from M57 engine is indestructible, they use it on 2jz supras with adapters, it can take torque more than 700nm, so its the most realible gearbox ever made.

The most timeless car from bmw, one of the most timeless cars of all time. The chasis from the e46 is from 1998 (i know that this one is 2000-2002) and still looks up to date. Needs M-Paket2 and most of the people will think this car is from 2008-2010. Take a Look at Audi or Mercedes at the end of the 90´s
Definitely, I have a a4 B5 pre facelift from 95 it looks damn old next to a E46. ..
Even the B5 facelift looks way older.
But I think it's also way more reliable ^^

@@tobityp2 e46 is one of the most reliable cars. No way b5 can have the same amount of beating and stay road worthy. Keep in mind, that average bmw takes a lot more stress from it's driver, than other everyday cars. These cars are driven like a porsche, and maintained like an Opel ) For example, in 2010, than i had an e46 325i i was testing it's limits twice a day. Think about it: twice a day my cars was doing 240+ kmh almost every day for several years. I had no major issues ever, simple inspection and more often fluid changes.

Probably the most beautiful Coupe ever made. I owned a 2004 E46 M Sport Coupe for 5 years. It was a nightmare to maintain but damn it was so beautiful. I sold it in 30 minutes. People were begging me to sell it to them.

Nice run. I'm happy with my E46 Clubsport but as cool as this is, I don't think I want to use forced induction as it can shorten the life of the engine. Besides, no autobahns here in UK :)
yeah UK sucks.. I put my foot down and 2 secs later have to brake down from 90mph...
300hp is very conservative, just what m54 needs to get up to the m3 acceleration. Probably would save a bit on maintenance too considering how much the m parts are marked up.
A shorter final drive will see you get similar mid range punch to a turbo.
I prefer the N/A engines for the e46 but this car is amazing and the engine pulls like a beast...good video!!!

Have an 02 330i 5spd with 140k miles on it and it still runs amazing. Smooth idle, smooth and linear acceleration. I use it as my DD. 2 years ago I picked up a 2012 E70 X5M as my fun toy. What a blast it is to drive! Believe it or not, I get more excited driving the 330i. Planning on selling the X5M and using a portion of the money to supercharge the 330i and restore a few things that need attention.
Any advice on what I can do to bulletproof the engine to live happily with a supercharger?
Which supercharger are you looking at? What are your power goals? Stock m54b30 motors are good for about 400hp
(@ the crank). Your 5 speed gearbox will hold about 500hp assuming it's a ZF. As long as you don't thrash the car and you take care of the clutch then you should have no problems with a supercharger.
Most entry level supercharger kits make around 300-375hp to the crank (about 260-325whp) so you shouldn't need to change anything major on your motor to handle the extra power.
As long as you run a compression test before looking at power mods and keep the motor well maintained and serviced then you shouldn't have any issues. Do note that any weak points that are common on these engines are normally made worse by adding more power/heat so if there is anything currently wrong with your motor even if it's fairly minor, get that sorted first.
I personally am saving for a 330i auto that I will manual swap and then install a supercharger. The supercharger I am going to buy the VF kit as it has good reviews, runs at low boost to keep the motor safe, and is one of the cheapest brand new kits on the market for around $4500 USD. It's supposed to put down 285whp and around 240ft lb which is plenty for my needs.

What!? An E46 going this fast?! How is that possible, what did they do to it 😄 My E46 broke my bank, but damn it was a fun car. The police (in civilian black Golf) raced me with it once, stopped me and after laughing a bit let me go 😅 At almost every red light people raced me. Good old days. Cost me a new car, so I did get a new Mercedes instead. Very expensive car to maintain.

@@TiptronicSS same here had 2004 e46 330d manual, i threw in the car about 7.500€ in 5 years, i could buy a decent F10 model for that money i pay it An maintance, but it was very fun car to drive special on highway.

This goes well at the beginning, like it does have 300hp, but after a bit of driving it seems to loose HP, does it have an intercooler? I mean Ive drove and tested 330ci with headers only and an ebay remapped ecu (crap map), and it takes about 24 sec 0-200, meanwhile it takes you on this clip, from 100-200 (8:16 - 8:37) about 21 sec... thats very slow for that car...
I have a 330 with a shorter final drive running high octane fuel. Its midrange isn't much slower than this. Its probably been built for longevity over outright performance?
@@davecom3 I would bet that intake temperatures are getting really high for this supercharged e46.I doubt its the longevity at play in here, its exactly opposite :D
More heat-->more detonations(not healthy)-->more ignition retard-->less power. Its a shame tho, it really goes nice at the beginning. Sadly there is no easy way to put an intercooler as well in this setup. There is just a little room to play with in the beginning with centrifugal supercharger placed above alternator. Perhaps it would be the best to adapt B58 intake manifold which has heat exchanger in it. I would really like to own such E46! It drives the best when properly set. Love it.
One hand on the wheel at 200+ km/h. One hand on the shifter all the time. Almost stretched out arms. Aggressive shifting. No rev match at downshifts. Aggressive driving style towards other traffic. Not using indicator. Why, why, why? Is this an instruction video to show all the things you shouldn't do? I would never let this irresponsible novice driver use my car.

I own same car, same year, same color same engine for past 7 years. Mine is stock and it goes also 250km/h but last 20km/h it takes ages to achieve :D Drives good, but is not as reliable as previous ones. Our family has had them all since E21 to E92, all Coupes

I wouldn't mind doing this to my 330 convertible some day. A nice increase but not too expensive and unlikely to need an LSD or stress the engine too much, and the clutch might cope too. Sapphire Black, 2005 M Sport Convertible, lowered on Eibachs, with burgundy leather, graphite grey wheels, black factory grill (with silver slat tips, not the EBay all black ones). It's a nice car, I could not get rid of it easily.
As awesome the car (and the video) is, but these wind noises would get me insane! (reminds me of my Golf mk3 convertible LOL)

Had a Z3 facelift with the Gpower Stage 2 Kit. It was a damn Rocket and quite fun to drive. Basically the same Engine, butter smooth and 0 problems.

Mein e86 3liter si mit 265 PS und vmax Offen lief laut GPS 282kmh hatte aber eine kennfeldoptimierung mit angeblich 18 PS ungefähr mehr
