Associated MT10 is good value. Hopefully RPM make parts for the MT8 for extreme bashing. Not being able to do 40mph without crashing, is unacceptable. Especially from Associated, we all know they can do so much better!
I've been waiting for this vidja for a while now. Knew it was coming. I've got this truck, and at first I absolutely hated it. Once I found most of the weak points and how to make it a reliable rig, I fell in love with it like my mt10 that I've done a Lwb conversion on. Got a playlist on that conversion if interested. To make this truck reliable you'll need the following redcat kaiju parts: Front and rear control arms. Front hubs and carriers Rear hubs Sway bars are desired but not needed. Then you'll need arrma turnbuckles; 2 packs- 5x50mm upper camber links 1 pack- 5x64mm steering links. Replace with these parts, and this rig will surprise you. The chassis is really strong and the diffs are very large. But sadly alot of other components were not well made. I've got a few videos about this truck and how to make it reliable.
I can’t believe how poor quality this RC is for the money, it was hardly extreme bashing. Imagine being that kid who waited ages to get a hobby grade RC car and it falls apart that easy. Saving up ages for replacement parts or upgrades, you would lose interest so quick in the hobby.
thats me, bought a cheap hobby grade rc car, the batteries died, then bought more batteries, they never arrived, bought more batteries just for the car to break
But my first rc was a Stampede 2wd lasted 14 years raced it bashed it around some jumps and speed bumps never replaced a single part. Now I have me a slash and love it!
After owning the MT10 I was expecting good things for the MT8, however I'm very disappointed with the durability. They went from most durable budget RC to least durable. Great video kev
WOW... the big brother was a total let down durability wise. Hard to tell if 4s would be the better power option with the parts breaking all over the car on what looked like a very tame landing. Definitely a back to the drawing board item. Needs more BEEF!! Great fun vid Kev !!! Keep them coming!
Had my eyes on this for a while, but after seeing the problems and your confirmation of them, I think I'll just go with its older smaller brother or maybe the new 4s outcast
It’s like they didn’t test the truck before releasing it. Traxxas and other top brands go by testing its like associated just made the parts bigger from the mt 10 and expected them to hold up to a 1/8th size truck with 1/10 durability.
hey kevin I've had mine for a few months and unfortunately it broke after just a few minutes. RPM is probably in the process of making new Arms for the Rival. The pins in the Arms can be quickly replaced with your own 4mm spring steel pins. and the servo saver must be tightened significantly. I hope I can bash mine properly soon. Greetings from Germany ✌🏼
Yes Kevin rushed the review on this one or something. Didn't do much research on it prior it seems. I wouldn't be surprised to see a follow video correcting this one. Sooner than later hopefully. Rock on Team Associated.
Rpm aren't doing arms for the Mt8/ kaiju yet from what I've been told, associated need to reformulate the plastics, they may be fine for racers but not bashers
Honestly when he started to make it talk that was the first time I've actually felt sad for the little fella, never felt sentimental towards a servo but making it talk like it was suffering made me choke a little, funny shit though had me wheezing for air on my shop desk 😂
The redcat kaiju upgraded aluminum hubs and carriers work on this rig also the aluminum steering rack n the lower arms are a direct bolt on I also used arrma typhon 6s turnbuckles to solved that snapping issue hope this helps
Just make sure to leave one point of failure, or a pop-off point at a balljoint or youre gonna break something expensive eventually. There should always be one cheap part you carry a ton of spares of, or one break-away piece that can be popped in repeatedly, and you'll never have to replace the expensive shit. ;) I like 3d printing one component about 15 times as a tray that way I know it'll break before all the injection molded parts, and only costs pennies to replace.
huge fan of the MT10 and easily one of the best 3s bashers out there but this thing is a disappointment.. shame as was waiting for this truck! Think the MT10 is still the king!! Cheers Kev 😎👍
I'm going to acquire the MT10, eventually. It's bigger brother, here, appears to be garbage. I like models that don't come apart in their first runs. Team Associated should go back and try again.
For the money kev i do believe that its “Epic” 6s with a rolling back-flip out the box is just what we need for $550(u.s) Arrma has exploding diffs and Traxxas is hard to customize/upgrade and both are way more expensive. Ive got both and defiantly need an MT8. Good servo and smaller tire’s it’ll be wicked.
Deans was amazing! For a few days, lol. For me it was doing a loop in a Bixler RC plane, it unplugged during a loop, amazingly the plane glide for 5 minutes in a gentle turn, porpoising and landed like a champ all by itself. XT60/90 from then on, cheap lesson learnt!
You're always telling them that the metal chassis bends, but they always make it with some kind of metal or alloy. Marketing wins again, while true and tried methods don't help spare parts sales so yeah. Customers are always right, but who the hell cares with unlimited uninformed "new" customers out there right big companies? Charge more for less is THE name of the game I guess cause everyone's doing it so must be working. Great overview
I see you’re rebuilding the losi 5t cant wait for it to be back together I really can’t believe the car got completely destroyed like that. This time I hope it won’t explode into a thousand pieces
This may be good just for an off-road in the mud or dirt but you are definitely not bashing this thing hardcore. It's sucks too, looked like a decent truck
Seems like a pretty good RC, it would probably be a great toy and hold up fine for the average, normal RC'er. As for being Kev proof... Is there anything that holds up? LMBO It is nice to see and know something's limits though.
I feel like you need to lower the wheelie bar when doing speed runs so it might just bump onto the bar. Then again, with the way this thing seems to just spontaneously backflip out of control, it'd probably just pogo off the wheelie bar and launch itself steering-rack-first into the nearest tree.
It didn't seem like you were too hard on it and it still couldn't take it, I'll pass on the MT8 and stick with my MT10!! Its Waaaaay more durable, controllable and handles power better at high speed. Team Associated NOT so tough!! Bash on Bro!
Thing is Kev I watch many videos you do and you upgrade the crap out of your vehicles to make them durable. If you do the EXB mods it’s one of the most durable trucks out there.

Hey Kev, next time you want to review this truck, do yourself a favor, save $50, and get the Redcat Kaiju instead. It's the same front and rear end, bolted onto a fully plastic chassis instead of an aluminum chassis. I bought the Kaiju EXT for $350 on sale, and it's actually been pretty fun. I think if you really want it to hold together, 4s is definitely safer for it, but I have put several 6s packs through it as well, jumped it, backflipped it, and landed poorly many times. I've had one caster block half way crack, and replacements were only $8, not too mad at it. Only major issues is it is way overgeared out of the box, electronics overheat like crazy, and it comes with belted tires, one of them exploded from a controlled wheelie. I don't think RPM has any parts for it, but Redcat does sell aluminum caster blocks and axle carriers that might be worth giving a go.
@@joshdunbar3818 Oh crap, you're right! The MT10 is just a straight copy of the 1st gen Kaiju. Never even noticed that, although probably because I saw Kev's review of the 10 before getting my Kaiju. Guess I can cross off the MT10 from my list of trucks to buy.
The platform seems to have a lot of potential but there is quite a list of things that need doing to it out the box. It's massively over damped so the suspension takes all the load when landing. The shock oils need changing, extra holes need drilling in the pistons. The diff's need doing, very little oil in them. As you probably saw from the onboard cam the the body posts need cutting at the bottom as they actually hit on the suspension when the suspension compresses under load. It needs the arms and upgraded turnbuckles off the Recat Kaiju Also seems to work better on 4s. Think that's about it the chassis seems solid

ive been using those ecoboost servos in alot of my cars and race kits even. I think they are great for the money and fast enough for me. Im not one to spend $200 on a servo.
Glad you posted this I had this in my cart and figured I would see if you did a video on it now came to the decision to hold off for x-maxx.. thanks kev!
Associated have always had bad plastics in my opinion. I used to race an associated TC5R way back when, and it used to just break from the smallest of crashes. Switched out to an X ray branded model and 100x better
After replace about $100 in parts it’s good to go and a lot of fun. Huge jumps are going to need better chassis though. Steering rack sucks. All lower arms suck. Rear upper arms/turnbuckles suck. When it’s running good….it’s a lot of fun! I call it my “chunky” RC hahaha.
I love team associated I had a single speed nitro tc3 for my 2nd car and it ran so good, never broke it in the 3 years I had it, which is impressive, it had a gyro and tracked straight and drove like a dream, the only thing if I do remember was the pull start had an issue but I fixed it, other than that I drove the crap out of it, probably 200 tanks worth of gas, I ended up then curbing it, and one day my mom didn't tell me and threw it in the trash....

Alex kowaliuk here from America 🇺🇸 hey don't judge an rc by its looks lol it looked like a great rc truck but nothing but trouble for Kevin though I don't think you could even baby that rc and not break things looks like you got your first true garbage can queen 😉 😜
Wish every servo was as talkative as that one.
Can’t wait for a 5T video those parts look amazing
They might as well not bother including a servo if it needs replacing out of the box anyway.
Great video as always, I my top picks for bashing would be Tekno, Arrma and Traxxas!
I see its also very nice weather in the UK ☀️🌞☀️
ive been using those ecoboost servos in alot of my cars and race kits even. I think they are great for the money and fast enough for me. Im not one to spend $200 on a servo.
If you can export this product to the UK… try using Redcat Kaiju a arms.
These are all feel good videos Kevin 💗
Glad you posted this I had this in my cart and figured I would see if you did a video on it now came to the decision to hold off for x-maxx.. thanks kev!
Hi kev. I watch your videos all the time! You made me get a xmaxx!!!
Wow that’s a fantastic monster truck.
Classic arrma trick😂, whole bag of parts you don’t need
Associated have always had bad plastics in my opinion. I used to race an associated TC5R way back when, and it used to just break from the smallest of crashes. Switched out to an X ray branded model and 100x better
After replace about $100 in parts it’s good to go and a lot of fun. Huge jumps are going to need better chassis though. Steering rack sucks. All lower arms suck. Rear upper arms/turnbuckles suck.
When it’s running good….it’s a lot of fun! I call it my “chunky” RC hahaha.
Classic video man ... looking forward to the rebuild and break video ...
Why does it look so cheap on the outside but is godly on the inside (with the new servo)?! I AM KONFUSCHION!
Don’t throw anything way you can just send it my way I can use it
Ha ha same
A traxxas stampede could last longer than that.
10:07 The car is break dancing 😂
