This is an old song, but not a spiritual, not by or about slaves. It's an Appalachian Mountain folksong composed and first recorded in 1913. It's been recorded many times over the century, most memorably by Bob Dylan in the 1960s and the Soggy Bottom Boys in the Clooney movie in the 80s. Home Free simply made it new all over again. Home Free is incredible.
The Soggy Bottom Boys were played by Union Station. Their lead singer, Alison Krauss, sang on Down To The River To Pray in the same movie. She has 27 Grammys.
You have introduced many people to Home Free. And it is fun to watch new people react to them BUT it is just as fun to watch your reaction react to them
Dick Burnett "Man of Constant Sorrow" (also known as "I Am a Man of Constant Sorrow") is a traditional American folk song first recorded by Dick Burnett, a partially blind fiddler from Kentucky. The song was originally recorded by Burnett as "Farewell Song" printed in a Richard Burnett songbook, about 1913.
I would love to see you react to more Home Free! They are the best, in my opinion. They do a huge variety of music and each have a very impressive vocal range. The beatboxer is an Animal! Thanks for the Home Free reactions!
Home Free : End of the Road.......My Church......Auld Lang Syne...... Hill Billy Bone.....When a Man Loves a Woman.....Just a sample of awesome voices, harmonizing and Beatboxing. Don't forget Tim Foust on Will You Still Love Tomorrow and Stay.
Old bluegrass song. So well done by the boys. Home Free has talent in spades. Yeah I wasn’t a country fan but I’m loving their versions of it. Try What We Ain’t Got, Die a Happy Man to hear more good country. HF really sings all genres of music. Tim, the bass, loves doo wop and put out an album of all doo wop songs (50’s & 60’s). They have lots of originals too. Good reactions and hope you all had a wonderful Christmas! 😍😃
"Man of Constant Sorrow" (also known as "I Am a Man of Constant Sorrow") is a traditional American folk song first published by Dick Burnett, a partially blind fiddler from Kentucky. The song was originally titled "Farewell Song" in a songbook by Burnett dated to around 1913. A version recorded by Emry Arthur in 1928 gave the song its current titles.
Love these guys and when they do End of the Road.. incredible... I can listen to it over and over and over and I pretty much do because it's such a great song.. Boyz II Men.. the best but Home Free do it JUSTICE
Love watching people hearing Home Free for the first time. Your appreciation for their talent is evident and your delight in exposing people to it is a joy to watch.
Though published in 1913 by Dick Burnett (who did not compose it) this song is an old American Folk Song. It was old when published - he just put it to paper - which then enabled him to earn from its use. Prior to that it was learned "by ear" having originated in & around Kentucky, Tennessee and thereabouts.
😂😂😂 You're sooo funny. I see you spying with those sideways glances watching your friends reacting in disbelief to what they're hearing. Thanks for introducing it to so many others. 😂😂😂
Cheating here....borrowed this summary from another commenter.... (I love seeing folks new to HF...and, BP, it's rather obvious you enjoy the same thing!) The group started in 2001 by brothers Chris and Adam Rupp They won The Sing Off season 4 2013 that's where they became very popular. They are the only country A Capella ( all vocals no instruments)group but they are honestly do so so much more than just country music they can sing any genre and they do. There is no Lead singer in the group. They each ( except Adam )sing the song and who’s ever voice or voices sound right for the song gets the lead unless is a bass/ baritone song then that’s Tim or Chance. A lot of time they each have a part in the song. Fans of Home Free are known as Home Fries and are very loyal to the guys. Adam Rupp: Beatboxer Extraordinaire ( 41) can make any sound imaginable (A whole drum kit, harmonica (his Nomonica we call it )plane flyovers, trains, castanets, bugs ,birds etc).Co founder from Mankato Minnesota. Rob Lundquist :Lead tenor(beard and glasses) ( 40 )very soulful voice and master whistler from Minneapolis, Minnesota Tim Foust :Bass (had long dark hair now short with grey ) ( 42 ) 5+ octave range can go so low he blows speakers or sky high from Nederland, Texas Austin Brown: High Tenor ( Long wavy hair )( 37 ) voice of an angel from Tifton Georgia. Adam Chance(Aka Chance):Baritone/Bass ( 39 ) deep, rich voice(Does the juice harp sound in Man Of Constant Sorrow) has short dark hair short beard from Baldwin County, Alabama. Replaced Chris Rupp ( Adams Brother and co founder in 2016) They have collaborated with many singers and legends Don McLean:American Pie Oak Ridge Boys:Elvira Kenny Rodgers:Children Go Where I Send Thee (Please watch the end message) Billy Gilman:One Voice Alabama:Christmas In Dixie Mark Wills:Don’t Laugh At Me ( important message at the end ) Lee Greenwood & US Airforce Band:God Bless The USA Any many more. They have 3 amazing songwriters in the group Tim,Austin and Chance So they have a very large playlist of covers and original songs End of the Road (Boyz 2 Men cover ) When A Loves A Woman Helplessly Hoping (5 part harmony masterpiece ) Unchained Melody Butts Medley/ Remix Listen To The Music Can’t Outrun You Brothers In Arms Stargazer Trilogy( All Originals written by Austin) Give Me A Sign ( Chapter 1) Stargazer Lilies( Chapter 2) MR (Chapter 3) Skull And Bones ( original written by Chance for Ubisoft new video game Skull And Bones) Might As Well Be Me ( Original) Playing With Fire ( Original) Remember My Name (Original) Oh Pretty Woman Life Is A Highway Stand By Me Cruise I Want Crazy Christmas In LA ( Newest Release Mayday(DON’T WATCH TILL YOU ARE VERY FAMILIAR WITH THE GROUP AND THEIR RANGES ) There's not a song that you pick from their 200+ catalog that is bad I haven't found one yet. They are just funny, down to earth, humble really nice guys. They are the best A Cappella group there is IMO Sorry for the long read
Welcome to the Home Free rabbit hole Paster as your buddy mentioned these guys can do anything any genre probably the most diverse group of guys in the a capella realm and the fun fact is all these groups are truly close friends and support each other's work. Great reaction guys.
Caution the pastor that Home Free is highly addictive. I think he'd really appreciate their collaboration with Jeffrey East & the Oak Ridge Boys of "Beautiful Star of Bethlehem" and with Kenny Rogers of "Children Go Where I Send Thee". 3 of them are song writers. The sing (and write) in almost every genre. Best wishes for a happy, healthy New Year to you and yours!
Adam is a ridiculously good beatboxer but it's worth noting that several if not all members of the group can beatbox and they pass the beat around. It's how the beat keeps going while he's doing the nomonica.
This is so very awesome! Love Pastor's reaction. It was priceless! Should have him react to How Great Thou Art. Love seeing you introducing people to Home Free! Thank you!
Loving the Wu-Tang hoodie. I bought 36 chambers on vinal and gave it to my lil brother for x-mas in a picture frame. I also got him Nas Illmatic, Black Stat and the Roots,
1:45 LMAO. Reminds me of my old smoking buddy who suddently decided to switch jobs from Mechanic to Police officer... All of a sudden I feel like I have to ask him everytime I feel like blazing up when the boys are on a trip together! LOLOL
There’s so much BP needs to discover. Everything in Home Free world but especially Adams drum solo. Also Carrie Underwood and Luda “champion” would be a great song to see him react to.
The song that launched a million reaction channels. Have you reacted to Butts Remix yet? This song got REALLY big because George Clooney was shown singing it in the movie of the same name. The song was a central plot device of the movie. It's an odd and wonderful film.
Country has its roots in Africa. The Africans on the plantations introduced Spirituals and work songs. Those Spirituals led to Gospel. Work songs to the blues and folk music. I created a pretty cool venn diagram about it when I was teaching my students. In fact, the banjo was created on the plantation and based on the African instrument, the kora. All Western music (blues, country, rock, jazz, pop, r&b, rap...) is rooted in Africa. Interestingly enough, metal is most closely related to European classical music with its chord structures, scales, and embellishments.
Appreciate how you keep introducing your friends to HF. From what I have seen, their reactions are very positive. You do a good thing when you open this door to those who just don’t know this group. Keep going. Happy New Year!
I have really enjoyed your home free and your country music reactions to see the funnier side of home free you have to react to the butts remix i know you will enjoy it
The first time I heard this song was not in the movie Brother, Where Art Thou? It was sung by a black man sitting in a jail cell. It was an old black and white from the 1940s. I wish I could find the name of the movie. It's was at least 40 years ago I watched it late one night.
Ain't no rivalry between Home Free, VoicePlay, and Pentatonix. The groups have worked together making videos many times whether is one member of a group singing with one of the others or arranging the song for the other group. Another a cappella group that has worked with Tim Foust, HF's bass is The Bass Gang. Tim did Hooked On a Feeling with the other four basses (with a quick cameo by their manager).
You and youe wife should listen to Blue October - Home. Im a huge metal head but this song gets me. My wife and i love it. Justin Furstenfeld has an amazing voice.
I do hope you know that aside from Adam Rupp, the main beat boxer 3 other members can beat box as well. Including Chance standing in back with the black vest doing the juice harp sound heard heavily at the beginning and end and at a lower volume throughout the song.
I'm not a fan of Opera... my mother and sister loved it... the only one I could stand was the Nessum Dorma (sp).. by Pavarotti ... Austin and Rob do a really great rendition of it...

Yeah I spoke incorrectly. Had the wrong song on my mind when I said it. Definitely a mistake on my part.
The Soggy Bottom Boys were played by Union Station. Their lead singer, Alison Krauss, sang on Down To The River To Pray in the same movie. She has 27 Grammys.
Amazing what even a quick bit of research will do isn't it. Thank you.
Yep
It's really about living that criminal life because you're poor
This is one of their most popular songs. These guys are so much better now believe or not. CK out Cruise.❤️❤️❤️
Rear left in the vest is Chance doing the mouth harp.
#HOMEFREE IS THE BEST 🤟🤠🤟
You have introduced many people to Home Free. And it is fun to watch new people react to them BUT it is just as fun to watch your reaction react to them
Adam Rupps drum solo
Home Free - My Church is my fav version of the song
The jaw harp at the beginning is Adam Chance.
I love your reactions to Home Free" Man of Constant Sorrow"❤❤
#HOMEFREE!
First time I heard this song (and what it blew up from I believe) was the movie "O Brother, Where Art Thou?".
Every one I know has that movie in their collection
Love that movie. Love how it was loosely based on the odyssey
This song was 1st written on paper in 1913 & 1st known recording was in 1928

If you listen carefully you can hear Tim’s voice DROP another octave on group vocal right after his solo part. Insane

When Home Free was on the Sing Off, Shawn Stockton was a judge and he said that country was just a white version of R&B.
And yet he became a huge fan of Home Free and even game them permission to cove End of the Road when they asked.
😂😂😂
