    This girl is the living proof of growth without salons. You can go to a salon for years and they'll just cut whatever length you grow off

    • @pooowater
      @pooowater 10 месяцев назад +46

      To be fair this hair length is unachievable for most people. Her hair's anagen (aka growing) phase is MUCH longer than the average person, probably like 10 years.
      Your hairs maximum length is determined by how long stands can stay in the getting phase before falling out and 5 years of hair growth will not get this long.
      Also split end trims are necessary for growing hair long if you have drier hair and use heat or chemicals often.
      Fr most salons cut off too much but this hair length is not achievable for most people.

      @SB-rk2nc best i can say if you're looking to go, talk to your stylist before any scissors come out. Show them visually where you want it cut to, and have pictures of what you're looking for. Just telling them how many inches/centimeters to cut is where too many people mess up. They dont use a ruler, and you're basically asking a stranger to eyeball exact measurements. Sometimes, even you may be off on what an inch or two is, lol. If at any point it sounds like they aren't listening to you or dont have the same vision as you, you can leave. The biggest key to a good haircut is always going to be good communication.

      When I was younger I used to kind of hate my hair. My mother is Korean so her entire side has this beautiful black and shiny and straight hair. And I'm over here being mixed with my dark brown curly frizzy wavy hair that I hated taken care of cuz I could never get it to lie down.
      I used to literally pray for it to get straight like my mom's. And then my mom had no idea how to take care of hair like mine. I hit puberty and my hair just went wild. It took me until I was in my mid-twenties to figure out I had to use black hair care products to actually make my hair look good. My mom really didn't know a whole lot about it. So she did the best she could but I'm telling you I looked like a poodle in my 6th grade picture😂.
      But as I've gotten older I have come to appreciate it more. I don't have to worry about it getting greasy. I don't have to worry about how much I wash it. And I don't have to worry about really getting my hair completely even.
      When I was a senior in high school I cut my hair shoulder-length by myself. When I was in 9th grade I had gone to visit my family in Korea and my aunt took me to this fancy salon where they did this permanent straightening thing. It was gorgeous but only until my natural hair started to grow back so I had this weird mix of straight at the bottom and this frizzy monster growing out of my head😂
      By the time I was a senior I got sick of it and I just chopped it off. It took me about 5 minutes and I did it in the mirror my hair over my face and make sure it was even and it look like I went to a salon. I think that's when I started appreciating it
      This girl's hair so pretty though. Her length? I could never. My hair hardly grows below my shoulder blades. . Totally jelly

    • @EsiNotEssie
      @EsiNotEssie 10 месяцев назад

      @@shadowcollins4589 Oh I can't relate, but that sounds like what I've heard a lot of my other mixed friends saying! I'm mixed too, but I'm African mixed with Indian, so I have this weird frizzy mess going on. My mom has beautiful curls but because of that Indian blood, I have no curl pattern. It's just frizzy. Trying to get it to curl never works, so I just braid it and leave it alone for a few weeks lol. My dad chopped my hair terribly once, and that was when my mom learned how to cut hair. So now my mom only cuts my split or fried ends every few months and lets it grow.
      The great thing about black hair is that it grows best with little maintenance, at least in my case. I've been growing it out since I was 14, and now that I'm 24, it's down to my waist when straightened. I've had a few inches taken off here and there, but as long as I leave my hair alone, it will grow

    I recently got a trim for the first time in years . I reached out by text to the stylist I’d been recommended and messaged with them a good bit just to make SURE they understood what I needed help with. My advice: make sure to have them trim when you’re standing up, so you don’t lose more length than you want. Also make it clear that you only want them to trim your hemline, the very tips of your hair AND NOTHING ELSE. Most stylists just don’t understand that you don’t need or want them to add any layers of any kind, that all you really want is a trim right at the very ends of the longest strands. Spell it out for them and make sure they can and will work within those limits before you book an appointment. A good many stylists are so accustomed to just being trusted to do whatever that it can take them some time to understand what you NEED them to do for you. If they can’t understand, or seem to resent the fact that you’re not in need of their artistry, just thank them for talking with you, and move on to find someone else.

      But you do understand they know hair better than you because they literally went to school for it and just because you want the very ends trimmed doesn't mean that's what your hair NEEDS!!! Just because you notice most of the damage at the very tips of your hair doesn't mean those split ends stop at the very tip of your hair. The longer you tend to go without a hair cut the more they need to cut your dead ends off to get back to the healthy hair!!!

After an entire childhood of having hair stylists cut my curly hair when it's wet, so that by the time it dries it's super short, I gave up on salons and just do it myself. With your hair as long as it is, I would say skip the salon and stick to what you are doing. The slight difference in length at the end of your hair doesn’t change the overall look. My professional advice is to not worry about it too much haha, as the ends look a lot better, and you probably aren’t wearing your hair straight down most of the time anyway.

    Don’t go to a salon… people in the comments will disagree but salons will try their hardest to change your mind. If they want to bleach your hair, they’ll do everything they can to try and convince you(sometimes even blatant insults like “you look ugly with brown hair, let’s go blonde it’ll look better”.). I’ve also found instead of asking, they tell. So instead of “does this length look good to you?” They’ll say “this length looks best” or “we’ll go shorter so it matches your face”. They try and act like they know all. They’ll make you feel bad about not cutting your hair, saying everything bad they can think about it. “You probably sit on it all the time” “I can see it gets dirty easily”. They try and trick you.
    I went in a few years ago to get a trim. I have an undercut hairstyle with a man bun. The ends were super dead so I wanted to trim them. The lady insulted me like no other. How “men don’t do this hairstyle anymore” or “you’d look presentable without the bun”. After I said I just wanted a trim. I left not being able to put my hair back cause it was so short.
    My sister wanted highlights(she’s dirty blonde.)Just highlights. She came back with dark brown hair with highlights and pink in the ends) my other sister wanted shadow root since her hair was super blonde (she felt bald she says) she came home with brown hair and highlights. And let me just say…. They look the same now!!

      The only time I’ve been convinced of something by my stylist was to do a different shade of black than I wanted to do and I still loved it. I didn’t compromise on going black (she wanted to basically make my hair more brown and lose the blond and red highlights) I told her I don’t like it (she let me see swatches against my skin tone so I could see how it might look) we compromised between what I wanted and what she wanted and I loved it! Besides that, she always listens to what I want and what I like. I had a stylist like what you’re talking about, on top of flat out refusing to color my hair for the reason “I just don’t think you’ll look good” she was always late and cancelled on us several times ON OUR WAY to her salon. This other girl is much better, if I want something she listens and discusses options that are safe for my hair.

Finally, if you're feeling uncomfortable, ask for a mirror to see for yourself. Your hair is so long they will probably need you to stand to cut it anyway. So you can stand while they cut it and look into the mirrors to see the back. Make sure before you start that the stylist is prepared to be patient with you. We are people too, we sometimes are a bit desensitized to how important hair length is to some people. So just be very clear and firm about it while still obviously being kind and courteous. A consultation is very important, and if you don't feel good about the consult, then you do not have to move forward.

    I want to be a hair stylist bc i love giving people the style they want. I cut my hair, my fiancez hair, his brothers hair, some of my coworkers, family members, and friends. Im not trained, im self taught, but i ask what they want and watch a few tutorials and get it done. I never charge them for the haircuts either since I'm not professional, it's more of a hobby. I want to be the person who can trim the hair of someone with super long hair or show them how to do it so they can do it themselves without having to worry about too much being cut off. Hair is so fun and important for confidence and culture, it should be treated with that level of importance. I hope to go to cosmetology school soon and get my license so i can help. Your hair is so gorgeous, you deserve to keep it as long as you want with healthy ends to keep it growing 💜 you did great, hair cutting is intimidating and is more difficult to do on yourself than on someone else, im proud of the result you got!

(I went to this salon with my other mom and they took off way too much) anyways my mom actually took me to this beauty school where they ofc have a salon and they cut off exactly how much i wanted. So I recommend you try going to places like those as you want to keep your length and they want good grades so they will not cut more than you want. Hope it helps!

    Wow, I didn't realise how long my hair must look to other people until watching this! Mine had got down to my ankles because I hadn't been trimming it myself or going to a salon during the first few years of the pandemic. I'm still shielding now but this year I finally bit the bullet & got it trimmed back to waist/elbow length.
    My hair is a similar texture to yours at the top & I find if I do little trims every few months if the ends are feeling whispy or just starts to feel less healthy, then a big cut at the end of summer (enough to donate), not only does my hair grow back a lot faster but the bottom half isn't as sparse as yours appears to be looking at this video.
    Before it was cut I was noticing if I put multiple hair elastics in like you have done here then the bottom couple took a fair few more twists to stop from just sliding out, which wasn't the case when I trimmed semi-regularly.
    As much as I feel practically bald when a hairdresser chops a foot off my hair (or in the case of my last visit, more than 2, eep!) I've come to accept that if I don't do that then my hair growth slows right down & the condition goes steadily downhill.
    The one issue a have now is that it's grown super fast & thick since the first cut this year & it's already grown past my bottom, only this time it's thicker so heavier than when it was down to my ankles! Gosh, how we suffer 😂
    I thoroughly recommend getting someone you trust to give it a proper cut back to a head full of shorter but uber-healthy hair...rather than super long & healthy-ish but with those last few iffy inches. If you want to do it yourself there are clips you can use to create a straight horizontal line which you can then pull over your shoulder to cut where its east to see. You have to section the hair & do part at a time if you have thick, coarse or curly hair but they're perfect for finer more sleek hair. I honestly think if you took it back to that second (to bottom) hair elastic it would look amazing, but even just 4-6 inches would make a huge difference to the volume, how it flows, & grows...I suspect you'll be surprised at how fast it's back to the pre-trim length. And of course, as all of us super long tressed maevens know, nobody but you would even notice you'd cut it because loooong hair is loooooong hair even when you chop 2 feet off!
    If you do go for a cut rather than a trim, do make sure you're careful first time brushing afterward. I was a little too exuberant, muscle memory was expecting 2 feet more of resistance against my brush & because that extra hair wasn't there my hand just launched into my bedroom wall. Thankfully I broke my brush rather than my hand! 😂😂😂
    Sorry for rambling on at you. Can't wait to see what you decide. Take care x

    Girl don't go to a salon if you don't wanna.
    TLDR: NEVER trust a stylist when trying to grow out your hair or keep length.
    Currently learning how to do my own undercut and trim. I've been trying to grow out from a pixie with an undercut (keeping the undercut as it grows) and everyone started saying my ends looked dead and uneven, needed a trim. So I went to the salon while my usual stylist was still on maternity leave (biggest mistake, should've just put it off another month). I had 6 months of growth, told them I wanted 1/2 inch MAX off the ends. She cut off 4 1/2 INCHES, almost all of my growth. and it wasn't even a good cut, so to fix it, another stylist had to cut off another inch, putting me back even FURTHER than square 1. It's now back to 6 months of growth and I'm doing everything I can to get it to grow (taking biotin, drinking collagen drink mix, hair mask at least once a week etc).
