I had my 86 El Camino converted to r134, with just adding adapters to the AC dryer and having the system vacuumed out. After the shop added the r134, it never really worked right. So I had all the original parts swapped out (the dryer, all AC lines, evaporator, compressor, and the condenser). After having all the parts swapped out, my AC worked great.
That’s cause I’m assuming after they vacuumed ur compressor and system out they never added the peg oil in order making u have to buy everything new with them just telling u hey man we tried our best it’s ur system that’s failed when it really wasn’t u could have save some money
One of the major issues with doing a conversion is the fact that R134A requires a different oil than the mineral oil in your system. POE oil mixes with the old oil and R134A and can lubricate the compressor. With R134a installed and not adding POE oil the compressor will lack lubrication.
What was the reason the compressor wasn't kicking on? Low on R12? My 1994 Olds doing the same thing....car is 30 years old probably time for a new AC...
My ac motor is on and seems to work, but when ever I turn on the AC i hear knocking under the dash near the heater core area. not sure what it is.It stops if I shut off the AC
Love the R12 in my 1988 civic... easy to find dont use R134 ! HIGH PRESSURE will destroy your ac... also you need to use PAG oil instead of of Mineral ! R12, low pressure, non toxic, non flammable and 10x colder
You just DESTROYED your system. That compressor might sound good right now but it's not going to in the future. You need to evacuate all of that properly with somebody that can do it without harming the atmosphere and find some r12 and some mineral oil and for god sakes replace your orifice tube in your earrings first there's a guy on RUclips with a thorough video on how to specifically break down each part clean the inside reattach replace o-rings and recharge it's a yellow 78 to 80 Cutlass whenever you find the video. If I can find it myself I will post a link in the comments hopefully you haven't ruined your system yet
I think I mentioned In the video the way I do it is not considered the “proper” way and I’m not a pro. It’s the way I do it. I’ve done it many times. It’s all good, good luck with yours and thanks for the comment!
Hey brother it’s not complicated at all those seals are a jiff remove that 1 15mm bolt behind the 2 hoses behind the compressor use a pick snag the 2 black seals out witch I’m assuming ur compressor is original cause if it wasn’t it would have the 1 big seal and 1 small seal in order to make the pilots seals onto the compressor since ur trying to run r134 it’s going to eat threw ur black r4 seals real quick the 134 seals are green I been doing ac systems for 41 years just save the money do it yourself and the pancake compressor only uses 2 cans and 8 oz of those size cans u have so no more then 2 cans ever that’s if ur system is completely dry
Me and the neighbours did a few of our vehicles years back and they're all still working great six bucks a can my man and great video
Thanks. Glad you like it!

Yes, I believe that was the reason.

That is certainly strange. Haven't come across that one yet.
Mine did that for a while it would make a knock then kick on now it doesnt work at all
