Here lies dear Jacob Drove coast to coast causing a hubbub Some say his pin-hat and crocs had no swagger But to us that loved him he's our carpetbagger
This was my home park for all of my childhood and teen years up to my young adult years . Not so much now. I wish you could have went back in the day when all of the good rides and Hanna Barbera and such was there. There used to be a dolphin show and a lake with water ski shows and even a safari monorail. All that's been gone for many years now along with some of the best rides .
Yes Tanya, that was my home park also. Hannah Barbera, Yogi Bear's Cave, the dolphin show, water ski shows, Safari monorail, and many more back then. That was the good old days for sure
I couldnt get on any of the coasters or rides when I went. Either I wouldnt fit or it was down for repair. Worst trip I ever had by far. Im glad he had the choice not to lol. [Or was that king's island. I did both in the same week thru high school. Rained out at one. Couldnt fit in other]
We live near and have season passes to Kings Dominion. It's crazy to see Jacob at our local park. Like others I recommend going to Busch Gardens as well
Hey carpetbagger, I went there a long time ago. It used to be owned and run by Hanna-Barbera. Yogi bear the Flintstones and the Jetsons and all sorts of other characters would walk around. They even had a Jjabberjaw Shark salt water Circus featuring California sea lions and a flume ride called Smurf Mountain as well as safari ride where you were going on a train in with live animals.
When I was a kid growing up in Fairfax County, Virginia, this was our "home" theme park where we would go on long weekends like MLK Day or Veterans Day. It was owned by Paramount at the time (mid-late 90s-early 2000s) and so had theming from both Hanna-Barbera (now gone to Six Flags parks) and later Nickelodeon. Their water park had "slime," which was green water.
I grew up going to this park. Our family is from VA, so my dad chose to go here over Six Flags Great Adventure. Always had an awesome time here with friends, family and also trips with Girl Scouts. Was here last with my younger brother, sister in law, and boyfriend. My favorite coasters are The Intimidator, The Racer 75, The Grizzly, and The Stunt Coaster. Rode The Volcano too. Sad it's gone. Was unique.
I used to work here a few years back. I was a ride operator for Anaconda and Backlot. It’s so awesome being able to see you enjoy places that I grew up around!
I have a lot of memories from that park, both as a kid going there with my parents and sister, as a young man going there with my fiancee (later my wife), then going there with my daughter and her friends for Halloween Haunts. I think one day we rode every ride there at least twice. Great memories, thanks for going there and I hope you go back in the Fall for their haunts.
IF you are still in the Richmond area Carpetbagger, you can come and visit the Eastern Shore of Virginia which is home to many vintage things to discover and beautiful natural scenery to discover, and the Chincoteague Ponies. If you want to come and visit it is just a 3 hour drive away.
I can not believe that the boat is still there!!! As a kid we would stand as close as possible to get stuff that fell out of people pockets. That brought back so many memories. I haven't been to there in forever. I most definitely have to make a trip.
Thank you! It's fun to watch amusement park rides. I can't ride them anymore because I get very sick. I used to enjoy all that stuff. In fact, I even get sick from too much sun. Sucks to get old.
This place definitely looks different from when I worked here in '91 - 92. I worked at the Jungle Jim's Fries across from the Hungry Hippo, and remember seeing the construction of the Anaconda. Ah, how time flies...
You could try going to a renaissance fair !! the one here in arizona is pretty nice but you could go to any of them, theres a big one in texas although ive never been. love ur content !!!
Wow, how much things have changed. Used to live in northern Virginia back in the early 1990’s and during my high school years, we had season passes. Other than a couple coasters and the Eiffel Tower, I barely recognize anything. Maybe one day theme park historians will interview me about old attractions that no longer exist there like Smurf Mountain, The Haunted River, the Shockwave. The list goes on and on… I feel old now lol.
I absolutely love your videos and you! Im from Liverpool U.K and I love to see all the eccentric and mysterious places you visit! You have such a great personality and vibe about you! I could listen to your voice all day and find all your videos so interesting and a pleasure to watch!! Keep it up :) xx
Oh I wish I had known you were going to be here; I live only an hour from the park and grew up going. Love Kings Dominion. I also used to work in the park.
Jason, the Racer 75 wooden coaster was originally called the Rebel Yell ( because of all the Civil War battlefields in the area). This coaster- along with the original Singing Mushrooms, had a cameo appearance in the 70's movie ROLLERCOASTER. If you're traveling back south, please try some Eastern NC bbq ....Wilbers & McCall's BBQ & Seafood in Goldsboro are good choices 😋 🐖
My first visit to this park was before it became Kings Dominion. It was a drive around zoo. Lion Country Safari. The only 2 rides were Scooby Doo and Rebel Yell. I still go there at 57. And still ride the rides. I have seen rides come and go. But my all time favorite at this park is Flight of Fear....great ride!!
I've gotta take a trip down to King's Dominion one day! I've been to its sister park, King's Island. This one has great scenery though and some pretty cool coasters..
From a bird's eye view atop the Eiffel Tower, visiting with the Peanuts Gang, a somewhat spooky shooting ride in a haunted house, a sudden downpour (during which Jacob tangles with a Croagunk), a quartet of mustachioed Mushrooms and other delights await within King's Dominion. Keep on finding cool places to share with us dude!!!
If I remember correctly, the premium pass can also get you into Canada's wonderland up in Vaughan Canada That's north of Toronto. So if you're planning to do a Northern trip you can access to cedar fares Canada's wonderland in which is in my old hometown lol
If you find yourself back near the San Francisco Bay Area, there are three Cedar Fair parks you might consider. Gilroy Gardens is a quirky and beautiful non-profit park operated by Cedar Fair with lots of horticulture, lots of rides inspired by the nearby farms, and the historic circus trees. Great America in the Silicon Valley has it’s days numbered. I think it is slated to close in ten years. Further north in Vallejo, Cedar Fair operates a hybrid animal/coaster park. All these locations have very different vibes from downtown San Francisco
All of the times in the past I've been to King's Dominion I never thought of going up in the tower. And we use to go there and Busch Gardens every Labor Day weekend in the 90's . Thank you for the great view. 👍👍👍👍.
Man, never been to King's Dominion in a long time. The last time I've been there, the place where Derilium is at used to be a stand-up TOGO that originally had a tilted loading station (and I rode it)
Here lies Carpetbagger in his hat and socks...poor old guy forgot his Crocks~ I took my son to Kings Island Ohio in 1977. Our favorite ride from way back then was the Screamin’ Demon! Thanks for the fun today.
Back when I was a kid Planet Snoopy was Hanna Barbera land. We had Yogi’s cave and the Scooby Doo coaster, and Flintstones bumper cars. Then Paramount bought the park and it the theme changed to Nickelodeon. I’m just a little sad the Safari Village, including that wonderful volcano, of my youth has been completely erased from existence.
My shot at the rhyming headstone (with love, JtC!): There once was a traveler named Jake, Oh, the trips he would take! He'd show all the sights, He'd scream at the frights, 'til a camel sealed his fate!
Another great video, I hope you'll be stopping at Busch Gardens too while in the VA area. Looking forward to seeing more CF parks too. Some of the smaller ones like WoF, Valleyfair! and Michigan's Adventure are pretty neat and charming, so don't overlook them if you're closeby. Don't know how much you know of background of the park, but that mountain that I think you were insinuating looked like a turd, think that was the smaller section of Smurf Mountain, larger main part of the mountain sadly being torn down a few years ago when they removed Volcano the Blast Coaster. Back in the day, they had a few Smurf rides in the big mountain, one being a cool spooky log flume.
10:04, well yes-but that seems be changing now as Carowinds rethemed there Planet Snoopy to Campy Snoopy, Michigan's Adventure rethemed the kid rides at the front entrance to Peanuts, and the Planet Snoopy at Canada's Wonderland has work going on at the moment.
I recently visited there after Carowinds, and it's beautiful there, I love I 305, Dominator floorless coaster, , and I break the Drop Tower record riding it so many times that I missed count.
aprox. 5 trips to a ceder fair parks and your season pass will have paid for itself. many are througn early sept. this year due to late opening from covid. i dont do costers either, i used to love swings but about ten years ago i rode my last swing because my equilibriaum wont take it any more apperently. id wanna borrow a kid so i could do planet snoopy, id be all over that. also the boo blasters. looks like a fun park. love the puppets.
"In life the Carpetbagger was strong as an Ox, here he lies, buried in his Crocs"
"Jacob the Carpetbagger lost his swagger when he tripped on his Crocs and fell onto a dagger"
Ha!
The employee coming to close the umbrella Jacob was sheltering himself with was so out of pocket. Lmao
Yeah that was terrible guest relations.
The point of an umbrella is to keep you dry from weather, so it doesn't make sense that they take them down when rain comes.
"Here lies Jacob, he traveled coast to coast, and was ultimately taken down, by the sight of a fake ghost"
Here lies dear Jacob
Drove coast to coast causing a hubbub
Some say his pin-hat and crocs had no

But to us that loved him he's our carpetbagger
Aww nice one!
I'm a fair enthusiast and most definitely an amusement park and rollercoaster enthusiast. I love your videos on fairs and amusement parks.
“Jacob the Carpetbagger, never the slacker. Off to find adventure in the ever after”.
Oooo… I actually like that one. :3
That's should be on a T-shirt

A lovely park that has been getting so much attention and love in recent years! It has a very bright future!
I believe the singing mushrooms were also featured in the 1977 movie "Rollercoaster" with the late George Segal.
Was going to come in here and say the same thing. That was where I recognized this from
The Carpetbagger lies here.
He shared his adventures,
from town to town,
‘til a ripe old age,
brought him down.
We live near and have season passes to Kings Dominion. It's crazy to see Jacob at our local park. Like others I recommend going to Busch Gardens as well
I loved the singing mushrooms. The sign said they had to rest otherwise their throats would get “spore” not sore. Get it? 😂
i wonder if they do grim Grinning Ghosts in the fall
Here he sleeps with cheeks with great hair. He did not survive the Dark Ride with the extreme compressed air.

That’s my local park! We are season pass holders and have been for years. So excited that you were there and sorry we missed seeing you!
Woodstock is the name of the one specific bird, but the other birds in Peanuts are of the same species. Thanks for the cool video, Jacob!
I always thought Woodstock was a Canary!
The mushrooms get 'SPORE' throats. I love that.

Kings Dominion is by far the best amusement park in the world! My kids and other family members grew up on this park. A nice drive as well.
I've been there many times when I lived in Virginia. You should go to Busch Gardens, Williamsburg, Va. It's a beautiful park
Yes, the animated frog and singing mushrooms were my favorite. Fun park.
Was at Kings Island all week. Use to live in VA, went to Kings Dominion all the time. Same but different coaster. So glad you went here!!
kings dominion is my home park! spent many many days here, awesome to see you experience something i am so familiar with.
Toledo, Spain also has a bell that cracked on its first day on the job-except its still up in its bell tower
I can not believe that the boat is still there!!! As a kid we would stand as close as possible to get stuff that fell out of people pockets. That brought back so many memories. I haven't been to there in forever. I most definitely have to make a trip.
Im suffering from anxiety here lately but your videos somehow bring me peace and actually have a good time watching em from start to finish.
I used to live in Ashland and worked at Kings Dominion back in late to the mid 80's.
Last time I was at KD was with my family in 1977!
That place looks like a ton of fun!! Very clean too!!
Thank you! It's fun to watch amusement park rides. I can't ride them anymore because I get very sick. I used to enjoy all that stuff. In fact, I even get sick from too much sun. Sucks to get old.
The Darkride was great.

That Snoopy fountain was epic. What a fun park!
Never knew anyone that didn’t know and love The Peanuts.
Definitely not just for kids, more like muppet humor, adults too.
Looks like they kept trees and flowers and some rides that Kings Island paved over or removed. Nice looking park.

Put me on the kids rides now, much more appealing, leave those super high, fast and terrorising rides to the youth, looked like a good park though x
