I love the novel The Legend of Huma, her friendship with Kaz and Magius, and of course his love for Gwyneth. Also, I was really surprised that he was a Knight of the Crown, and not a Knight of the Rose, as I imagined him before (in the Chronicles). All in all, an amazing character.
The "Legend of Huma" is still my favorite Dragon Lance book and while there are many ways to interpret his character he will all ways be one of the few to stare the Dark Queen in the eyes and have her blink first!
I'm a fan of Huma Loyal to the Order of the Crown. (All Knights start as Crown Postulates). Worked with Mages (the Knighthood and commoners was not a fan) Worked with a Minatour (most folks didn't like them, but Knights of the Sword were cool with them. Very courageous guy. Strum really looked up to him. It was neat how there were similarities to Huma and Strum in Autumn Twilight.
In a weird way, having multiple versions of his legend is “more realistic.” We have many versions of King Arthur… I like the idea of having different sects of a monastic order squabbling over the “true historic” Huma… there’s a good adventure hook…
@@DLSaga - Yeah, it was a blast! I came in on issue #2 as a consultant, then took over the script adaptation from issues 3 - 6. Richard Knaak's writing translates quite well to comics. That's one of my favorite projects from the era.
Nicely done, very difficult to put a vid together that tries to tie in all of the changes to the character and legend, but you pulled it off. Some of the art looks like it's from a Legend of Huma comic book? I wasn't aware they did one, but the artwork looked amazing! Thanks!
Thakisis would hage probably ruled the world if not for Huma, but only for a time. she would have end up creating her own demise, as the Light ended up creating the Kingpriest.
Interesting She used the Cataclysm that ended the Age of Might as a way to enter the material plane and slowly gain power. I suppose if she beat Huma, the Cataclysm would have happened much quicker because the scales were not balanced.
The Order of the Crown is the gateway to the Knighthood. Some are called by Kiri-Jolith to join tbe Order of the Sword. Years later some are called by Paldine to join the Order of the Rose. Unlike the other two Orders , the Crown is more devoted to the Knighthood than Habbakuk. Thank goodness, because after the Cataclysm the Order of the Crown didn't fall as hard as the Sword and the Rose.
I'm a sucker for the original version. The one involving the white stag leading the way, Huma falling in love with his healer, the couple being faced with a terrible choice. Also the idea that they took the dragonlances and fought alongside other knights and dragons to push back the dragonarmies and ultimately defeat Takhisis. This recalcitrance may lessen my enjoyment of later works, such as the Legend of Huma and Dragons of Fate, where the story plays out very differently. To be fair, these works are well written and truly engaging... but I just cannot accept them in my personal canon as they don't comply with the original story. Fortunately, I can take comfort in the words of Fizban the Fabulous when contributing a forward to The Second Generation when he insisted that it doesn't matter which stories are "true" or not. I take that to mean I can just keep to the ones that make a coherent story that I enjoy, and other readers can keep whichever they prefer... or all of it if they don't mind the inconsistencies.
There's really only ever been one inconsistency that ever bothered me. I think the fact that there's inconsitencies makes it all the more natural of a "Legend." That said, I strongly prefer Huma the novel character to Huma the legend. He is way more of an actual human being in The Legend of Huma novel and far more believable. Legendary sacrifices for the greater good are all fine and dandy, but they're not remotely personable. The various recounts of the legend shared throughout Chronicles sound *exactly* like a story that's gotten muddled and embellished over centuries of retellings with fact and fiction blurring together. But every moment of the actual novel feels and sounds real.
Thank you for watching today's Dragonlance Setting episode. What do you think of Huma Dragonsbane? Leave a comment below!

Nice way of putting it!
Awesome channell. I have been reading Dragonlance since 1984. I still have all my original books. Great episode. Keep it up!
That’s awesome!

Definitely, and especially in Winter Night.
Just found this channel and it's awesome! Huma was one of my favorite characters
That's awesome! Thank you for checking it out. I hope you enjoy the other videos I have produced. Dragonlance rocks!

I’ve grown to like it as well.
Good point
In every version he's a Knight of the Crown.
😊
Loyalty and Obedience, the foundation of the Knighthood
Great video, Adam. Love your insights.
I appreciate you showing art from the Legend of Huma comic book. That was a fun project to work on. :)
That’s awesome, I didn’t know you worked on that!

Yes, they only did a few issues, it was never finished.

@@travisdonaldstanley6420 It seems probable. Instead of a gradual darkening of the Light, Krynn would have experienced a sudden Total darkness.
Thanks for the video l
You’re welcome.
good stuff

I’m curious about when you said you were a “deeply selfish individual”. Are you really?
Good video!
For the most part, yes.

Have you ever done a BIO about Uncle Rennard?
No

This is a very mature way of looking at the stories.
Wish Gwyneth/Heart and Huma would have had at least a little time together.
Yea, it's tough in those wartime scenarios. It makes you bond much faster, but it is often cut short.
