Hi Ken and Carol. We are enjoying the series but we were surprised to hear about your Mastercard problems, particularly that you mentioned France with regard to that issue. We live in France and we both have Mastercards, issued by our French bank, years ago. Then, a couple of years ago one card started to be problematic (not being accepted), but the bank changed it straightaway and that cured the problem. Would it be worth having a word with your bank about it ? All the best, and have a very Happy Christmas.
Mastercard may or may not be accepted. That's my experience as well - and I've traveled a lot in Europe. It's usually not a problem in hotels and restaurants, but for grocery stores, petrol stations and so on it can be a bit touch and go. Still, it could be worse. I've found that travelling with only American Express can be an utter pain. Visa generally works all over.
@@LifeistooshortCK When I go to Norway, Bergen to be precisely to visit my son, about once or twice a year, I pay everywhere with my normal bankcard as it supports Maestro and hardly use my Mastercard only got that for emergencies.
Regarding that shop you visited in Egersund, it looked like it was an Extra. That is one of the three budget supermarket chains in Norway. The others are Rema 1000 and Kiwi. All three compete on price, and are usually fairly even, and all of them have store brands that usually are the cheaper option. If you find a large store it will have a fairly OK selection, but not anywhere near the non-budget supermarkets, such as OBS, Meny and Mega.
Looks like you missed the rush hour in the supermarket or you are a celebrity and they have closed the shop for you 😂 Fuel prices seemed reasonable Google earth is working well to transition you … Loved your excitement Ken on breakfast ridgemonkey treat lol😂 You made me want a hot dog something we never have weirdly Thanks for producing

Lots of tourists here in Norway have problems using foreign bank cards in Norway, especially germans. In Norway, we do usually have our bank accounts connected with bank cards, not credit cards. You use a four digit code to validate your purchases. To fill up in norway, use the staffed Circle-K or the Shell ones. By the way, on your trip here, you missed the "svele" and the "vestlandslefsa". I do however visit the UK next year. Corrour. I still have not eaten your traditional kidney pie, so will try that. A bit reserved to intestine food. Also the debate if the english breakfast is better than the scottish breakfast with the haggis. Other than that, UK has the best indian food outside India. And you have the small bags of Lays chips.
Enjoy your trip to the UK. A full English breakfast is a must try. Steak and kidney pudding in suet is better than a pie and you could also try liver, bacon and onion with mashed potatoes 😋
Ken and Carol both of you are very entertaining been watching you from the first blog when you first started, have a very nice Christmas and best wishers for the New Year. Please carry on doing your trips and holidays.

Oh, good to know. So far, I've been able to pay with either my Mastercard or my German debit card all over the world. Will have to make sure I figure this out before I hop over there. What's that piece of paper on your steering wheel, if I may ask? A reminder to drive on the right? :)
Hi You two, when I moved to Hamburg from the UK in 2001 I had both cards , but soon realized that Visa is king and all the other cards are a hit and miss. I regularly visit Poland, Denmark and Holland in addition to coming to the UK for holidays . Visa is your faithful flexible friend.
quite strange, I have never had problems with my (Belgian) Mastercard, unless they didn't take credit cards at all, and then Visa is a lost cause as well (that's the case for e.g. Colruyt supermarket in Belgium).
My grandson was born on the day Queen Elizabeth died and I just cried and cried and cried but I was so happy for my grandson obviously but it was a weird day for me my mother was a year younger than Queen Elizabeth II
My debit card worked fine in the UK, Belgium, France and Germany, Never used my MasterCard for fuel. Good to know anyway. There is an English guy living in Norway who has a cycling through Norway channel. Worth watching. Yes in more countries you are expected to stop for cyclists. Get used to it😂
@@LifeistooshortCK Seen the behaviour of some car driver's around cyclists in the UK, both in London and outside. Some would land in jail for manslaughter in NL. I am also very aware of the race attitude of a lot of cyclists in the UK. Really stupid, but I am Dutch, what do I know. Once provided first aid to a pedestrian who walked into a cyclist on Bank junction London during morning rush hour. The crossing was blocked. I managed to help the victim of the street and get traffic going in two minutes. Nothing serious, cyclist was ok too. I am first aid certified, been there before, usually once a year one accident to assist in. Here the rest of the general public was minding his own business, no help by others. Never saw police, the area is full of cameras and a police station nearby. The breakfast at Birley's on Walbrook was a bit shorter than I liked.
@@hcjkruse I don’t want to see anyone get hurt. I have had to deliver several death messages during my career. You arrive, see the lights on, family relaxing at home and you have to deliver the news. Some cyclists seem to think they are invincible and that laws will protect them. I have not seen a law yet that stops people getting hurt.
Wierd it wouldn't take the card though, We were in Norway in June for 2 weeks and could pay in all the shops and fuel up just fine with a Mastercard. Doubt our 'Dutch' Mastercard is different fromt a UK one.. We always have 2 debit and a credit card with us though, always bring backups..
13:17 No, not really actually. We have *way* lower road fatalities then the UK. And both pedestrians and bikers are basically kings here. Seven pedestrians and two bikers died on the roads in 2021 in all of Norway.
When Ken said "Shall we have the Hot & Spicy Tikka Masala?" I instantly thought "Oh nooooo .. get the other!" I've tried the Hot & Spicy. Far too spicy for me especially for a Tikka. Infact most of it went in the bin. Did you manage to finish it? If so, well done you!
Hi both, really enjoying the Norway vlog, and we are considering doing southern Norway next year. Just a quick question regarding tolls for using the roads as you have not mentioned them. You have obviously used the main roads, as well as minor roads, can you advice regarding tolls please. Regards, Nick, Isle of Man
We set up an EPASS24 account but have not been charged for using any toll roads as we used a lot of smaller roads and tended to avoid the main toll roads. Make sure you apply for AutoPASS before you go to get discounts on the ferries in Norway.
@@LifeistooshortCK Even when you are using the smaller roads, you can't avoid paying toll in Norway. In many places you simply have to cross a bridge or go through a tunnel in order to get anywhere, and then you often have to pay. Also, if you visit the larger cities they are all ringed with automatick toll booths.
Lovely video Ken & Carol, Mastercard is useless on the continent as well. For divers anyway! You were lucky you had the visa or you would have had to get cash. What were the 2 bright lights going behind the clouds at 17:00 Just when you were remarking Red Sky at night?
Another excellent vlog from the little Red camper. Norway 🇳🇴 is showing itself as a really nice country 👍 the roads are in a very good state of repair judging what I've seen on the vlogs..the rule of cycle 🚲 & the crossing seems an accident waiting to happen...having said that I'm not one of these anti cycling brigade but it's getting more, more evident that cyclists ( not all ) seem to make the road rules up as they go along..nipping onto pavement to avoid Red traffic signals..i could go on..anyway really entertaining & relaxing episode..bring on the next one💯👌
@@LifeistooshortCK Keep in mind that cyclists coming from the sidewalk or a bike path wanting to cross the road using a pedestrian crossing must give way for cars in the road as long as the rider is mounted. Only when the cyclist has stepped off his / her bicycle, will he / she have the right of way. Although running over cyclists not observering this rule is still a pretty bad idea! The best way to negotiate this situation as a driver is usually to reduce your speed a little as soon you notice a cyclist wanting to cross the road. Then the cyclist will know that you have seen him / her, and quickly cycle across the road. If you don't slow down, the cyclist can step off his / her bike and walk into the road, forcing the driver to come to a stand still, and resulting in waste of time and frustration for everyone!
so since you made a video I am going to guess before I watch that you had to get fuel by staying somewhere and washing dishes to cover the cost of your gas lol
now I see the issue. I had an issue with a mandatory monthly payment once where the people changed from Visa to Mastercard and I had a visa card and it would not take my payment. Thankfully it all worked out on my end as well lol
13:11 bicycles have to yield at pedestrian crossing, unless it's specifically signed that you have to yield.. If they walk across with the bike, you have to yield.. Unfortunately a lot of bicycles to not give a dam, and takes chances... If the cyclists is using the road network, the same rules applies as for the cars.
Just think what the world will be like if the WEF have their way and go cashless under a social credit system - they will decide what you spend and what on - great video again though guy
Disclaimer: I have no deep knowledge about this, only from my user experience. I think cards from VISA and MasterCard are more or less equally accepted. I usually use MasterCard credit to pay, and in the past mostly VISA credit (issued in Norway) Som places don't accept any credit cards, but I would expect UnoX to accept credit cards Where they "don't credit cards", I don't know if that applies to any Master and VISA, because my debit cards are always branded with "BankAxept" (Norwegian bank cards), and co-branded with VISA debit. I have no experience using debit cards without "BankAxept". I think the error message would make sense, if your trouble cards are debit cards, and the terminal failed some international pre-approval request due to some network error. I think the error message sounded more llike a communication error, than not accepting the card. Before I switched to EV, I used to fill up at my local UnoX using MasterCard debit.

I can't eat the things, but my wife loves to eat them and brings back bags of the aphrodisiac.
We didn’t know about the oysters there. It would have been great to find some 😊👍

Something to bear in mind. Thanks for letting us know about your experience 🙂👍
good vid on the travels thanks lee
Glad you enjoyed it. Cheers Lee 🙂👍
Actually they take mastercard. Was just miss communication with you're bank
Seems to happen quite a lot using that particular card abroad ☺️
Mastercard may or may not be accepted. That's my experience as well - and I've traveled a lot in Europe. It's usually not a problem in hotels and restaurants, but for grocery stores, petrol stations and so on it can be a bit touch and go. Still, it could be worse. I've found that travelling with only American Express can be an utter pain. Visa generally works all over.
We have had problems with American Express in the past. Now we only carry Mastercard and Visa 🙂👍
@@LifeistooshortCK When I go to Norway, Bergen to be precisely to visit my son, about once or twice a year, I pay everywhere with my normal bankcard as it supports Maestro and hardly use my Mastercard only got that for emergencies.
Thanks for posting, looking forward to seeing your trip to Norway! so exited!
Hope you enjoy it! Thanks for watching 🙂
I think our favourite was the Kiwi chain ☺️
Looks like you missed the rush hour in the supermarket or you are a celebrity and they have closed the shop for you 😂
Fuel prices seemed reasonable
Google earth is working well to transition you …
Loved your excitement Ken on breakfast ridgemonkey treat lol😂
You made me want a hot dog something we never have weirdly
Thanks for producing
I think it was just early in the morning for supermarket shopping ☺️🛒 We were pleasantly surprised by the reasonable fuel prices. Can’t beat a good hotdog 🌭 😋
@@LifeistooshortCK We were there in june, then the price for 95 was 28,95 and diesel was even more expensive 😀But that was in whole Europe we found out later.

A light sprinkle in this one, huh? Surprised it took you this long to get your first rain, at least it looked like just a mild downpour.
We did get more rain later in the trip but not nearly as much as we were expecting ☺️
Thanks so much for continuing to watch our videos. Merry Christmas to you and have a very Happy New Year 🎄🎅🏻
I bet it's all snow, ice and freezing winds up there in Norway now Ken, glad you got the fuel paid for in the end. I have booked and paid for my ferry crossing to Normandy for next years adventure on the motorbike with some of my friends. Good job I've got Visa card!
Wishing you both a Merry Christmas and great adventures for next year
Sandy
Hi sandy! Yes it has been abouth 30 cm whwre I live, Just nort of Stavanger. Howewer now the snow is gone. I can drive mc all year round here. Buth I do not drive on icy roads. Welcome to Norway sandy! If you would like to have someone who knows Norway in and out driwing with you, I would be glad too. I do not use my real name on the net, as someone has tried to steel my identity. If you would get in touch, just say so in the by commenting one of my videos....
Yes I made sure we were out of there well before we got into trouble with snow and ice. You will have a great time in Normandy 👍
Oh, good to know. So far, I've been able to pay with either my Mastercard or my German debit card all over the world. Will have to make sure I figure this out before I hop over there. What's that piece of paper on your steering wheel, if I may ask? A reminder to drive on the right? :)
The sticker on the steering wheel is the conversions of kilometres per hour into miles per hour for the various speed limits ☺️
We are learning this the more countries we visit in Europe. A valuable lesson for future trips ☺️
Funny how my bank has changed my debit card from Visa to Mastercard 🤷🏻♂️
quite strange, I have never had problems with my (Belgian) Mastercard, unless they didn't take credit cards at all, and then Visa is a lost cause as well (that's the case for e.g. Colruyt supermarket in Belgium).
My grandson was born on the day Queen Elizabeth died and I just cried and cried and cried but I was so happy for my grandson obviously but it was a weird day for me my mother was a year younger than Queen Elizabeth II
A day you will always remember for sure ☺️
Such a treat (as it always is) to enjoy traveling with y’all! Those swords were impressive and were those llamas at 14:45?
Yes, they were llamas!🦙
thats why i always carry cash everywhere i go
Some cards are not good for the system of being pre authorised at petrol stations.
It seems that Mastercard is not accepted at petrol stations 🙁
Some years ago when shops in Norway accepted Visa and Mastercard it meant only Norwegian cards! Annoying! Today all cards are accepted.
My debit card worked fine in the UK, Belgium, France and Germany, Never used my MasterCard for fuel. Good to know anyway.
There is an English guy living in Norway who has a cycling through Norway channel. Worth watching. Yes in more countries you are expected to stop for cyclists. Get used to it😂
I don’t mind stopping for them it’s just when they act like Lemmings and cross without looking. 😁👍
I have to try my Mastercard at a pump. Works fine elsewhere for many years. Maybe easier at a manned pump.
We have several payment options but it’s always the Mastercard that gets refused sometimes and accepted at others 🤷♂️👍
I have the same problem when it comes to petrol with my swedish mastercard.
It seems Mastercard is not so widely accepted in mainland Europe as it is in the UK 🤔
I'm always using Matercard at Uno-X and other stations.
It didn’t work for us 🤷🏻♂️
You're not a foreigner. You frequently have to unlock your card abroad (in most countries).
13:17
No, not really actually.
We have *way* lower road fatalities then the UK.
And both pedestrians and bikers are basically kings here.
Seven pedestrians and two bikers died on the roads in 2021 in all of Norway.
That is surprisingly low.
It was surprisingly hot and spicy 🥵 We did manage to finish it though 😊
Thanks for watching. See pinned comment re the lights 😊
What are you talking about? I have a master card that works perfectly in Norway and elsewhere in Europe.
There are some ghosts flying over the camping van at 17.09 🙄
See pinned comment 😉
Cheers David 🙂👍
Thankfully it all worked out on my end as well lol
nothing worse then wanting to make your payment and someone not letting them give you your money lol
We had a problem with direct debits when our bank changed our debit card from Visa to MasterCard 😩
Luckily we had other cards on us to fall back on ☺️
@@LifeistooshortCK that was my issue as well
Can you pay with cash if necessary? Interesting dilemma
Most of the petrol stations were self-service and unmanned and I don’t think the machines took cash.
If it's manned. If it's automatic, probably not
12:39 What is that yellow thing on the wheel? 🤔
It is an anti-theft steering wheel lock that we put on when we leave the van.
@@LifeistooshortCK Oh ok, never seen such a gadget before in Norway
13:11 bicycles have to yield at pedestrian crossing, unless it's specifically signed that you have to yield..
If they walk across with the bike, you have to yield..
Unfortunately a lot of bicycles to not give a dam, and takes chances...
If the cyclists is using the road network, the same rules applies as for the cars.
It is the same in the UK. Many cyclists ignore the rules of the road that apply to all drivers.
Hi what's the sticker on the stearing wheel
It shows the conversions of kilometres per hour to miles per hour for the speed limits.
What are the three words that keep popping up? Am I old? 🥴😄

Disclaimer: I have no deep knowledge about this, only from my user experience.
I think cards from VISA and MasterCard are more or less equally accepted. I usually use MasterCard credit to pay, and in the past mostly VISA credit (issued in Norway)
Som places don't accept any credit cards, but I would expect UnoX to accept credit cards
Where they "don't credit cards", I don't know if that applies to any Master and VISA, because my debit cards are always branded with "BankAxept" (Norwegian bank cards), and co-branded with VISA debit.
We were using a MasterCard credit card which didn’t work. It was the same card that failed us in France. Our Visa credit card worked fine ☺️
