  • This episode was filmed 9th & 10th September 2022.
We are back in Norway from our Christmas Day episode in the UK. Today we continue our journey north towards Bergen.
Ken discovers that Norwegian drivers are not as placid as they seem.
After skipping breakfast we need an early lunch and find a perfect spot at a disused ferry port.
We are quickly learning how the ferries operate and take one from Jektevik to Hodnanes with a stop at Nordhuglo without getting off at the wrong port!
We find a peaceful waterside park up to try some Norwegian doughnuts then carry on our journey, catching yet another ferry at Våge.
After struggling to find a place to spend the night we decide to treat ourselves to a meal out.
Plans change in the morning as it is such a sunny day we take the tram into Bergen, look around the fish market and catch the funicular, Floibanen for some amazing views.

Although you were lucky with the weather, I just want to add that the driest month of the year in Bergen (and probably most of the West coast) is June, with July not far behind. September is surprisingly the wettest month on average.
I have noticed from watching many travelling youtubers that Norway is often visited in late summer or early autumn. My advice is always to come in June. No guarantees, but it maximizes your chances of good weather.

8:20 the reason why everyone is driving infront of you and rushing ahead is simple: People driving vans in Norway is not a new thing, there are tons of ''van'' tourism in Norway, and everyone hates driving behind vans or trailers, or anything ''slow or large'' on long stretches, because they ''clog'' up the traffic, and are most likely causing many potential or actual dangerous situation in the traffic, not the van or heavy vehicle in itself, but how people might do reckless drive-by's to get ahead of it in traffic if the person behind the wheel is impatient. So the fact that you ''stood there'' on the end at the ferry was most likely a ''sign'' to the other drivers that you wanted to be a good guy and ''let them go ahead'', so that is why they rushed, since you are driving a van and they thought you were giving them the go-ahead.

    • @LifeistooshortCK
      @LifeistooshortCK  Год назад +3

I certainly think it was because they feared I would hold them up. We do drive slower than most traffic. I try my best to let people pass as I know what can happen when you don’t 👍

When at a ferry, the ferrydirector guy in the highvis tells you when it's your turn to drive. You were in a lane with no direct out, you were supposed to wait till the others had driven off and for the ferry guy to give you the signal. Trust me, I've taken the ferry countless times as I lived right nearby for years and have relatives all around those areas.
Commenting without having seen the rest of the video, but in case you guys don't address it, you're taking a detour taking that ferry. If you had continued driving on the main road another 15-20 minutes, you'd have reached another ferry, taking you closer to Bergen. That's the main route

Smultringer are better freshly made. The ones you get prepackaged from the grocery store are quite dry.
Also, regarding the traffic control where there's road works, it depends on the amount of traffic on a road. More traffic, more control, but generally speaking, Norwegian drivers are quite calm.
If you're on a highway/expressway though, or close to major cities there can, as anywhere else, be a bit more aggressiveness.

It's also honestly cheaper if you go 3 or more trips in a day.

It's an old traditional cake here in Norway that tastes best fresh and warm.
