    The title is how to improve wing chun footwork but in the content, you actually point out the disadvantage of wing chun footwork.

    Great Lesson Master Wong, thank you!!! I look your Videos before I work out at Home... and I look some of your Videos before I go to Training. Both stimulate me and than I work better. For example: When I see some of your Wing Chun Movements in a lesson and than I see the same Movements in a "Street Fight"- Video, the short moments in which you use the Wing Chun Movements, see your amazing Speed, than I know, I`m on the right way... Have a nice Time and Greetings from Hamburg, Germany

    Master Wong... I do both Wing Chun (Yip Man/Leung Sheung Lineage) and Northern Shaolin Kung Fu..(30yrs) I've been working on wrestling and tackle counters and have found a similar use of the "useless for fighting" Low stances that the traditional Shaolin forms use. I have literally found a treasure of anti-wrestling techniques by using the transitions of the low stances.. from Horse stance to forward (archer stance) to empty stance and so on. I have also found that the Lohan circular strikes aren't long fist type circular punches but forearm strikes against an opponent who is grappling or trying to wrestle in close range. So one of my theories, is that the Northern Styles were actually developed to counter the Mongol wrestling and not really to "kick box" an opponent.
    You are very correct with stressing to move freely until contact is made and to drop the normal (taller) forward Wing Chun stance a little, to drop your center of gravity to deal with those opponents who shoot in to try to take a leg and tackle. In our Wing Chun lineage we are taught to adopt a more 60/40 stance like a low horse but with one leg forward to deal with fighting at a low level/preventing tackles or takedowns. I have also found that some of the methods of Sui Nim Tao work when your back is on the ground with an opponent mounted on you.. so as that develops it may be some ways to utilize WC in more of a ground fighting role.
    Awesome vid Sifu Wong!!.. I have been watching your vids for a number of years and I enjoy your endless enthusiasm and also how you are realistic in your approach to utilizing your Wing Chun in a variety of challenging situations. Thank you for your work!

    I really enjoy your training videos. thank you for sharing your knolege with us. I used to practice TKD and my strong side was the counter attacks. but you have to keep your distance to get a good counter attak. but that was 15 years ago. I'm not getting any younger or faster. in my school we used to practice combinations on the dummy it helps you become faster and stronger. if today's professional fighters new the benefits the wooden dummy gives your body, everyone would be using one. well my question is do you have an excersice or technique to help you keep your distance from your aponent for a counter attack.?

    Thank you Master Wong for the insight. Do wing chun really have horse stand or allow it? It feels like sin when you do horse stand when practicing wing chun from what I got from wing chun training. But from this video I learn that wing chun basic stand in the form is intended only for practice. It's just a conceptual basic for a good stance, not the stance itself. No matter what the stance, each of it will be better if done by the concept of tightening the leg muscle like you formed triangle even though the foot directing outside. Cmiiw

    So just to make sure I understand the main point about this video. So basically, the wing chun stance is not really meant to be a fighting stance but really a stance to get a person to understand the mechanics of wing chun movement and the usage of the hands?

  • @Simon2k17
    @Simon2k17 3 года назад

    Finally, a wing chun master making sense. Wing chun footwork is not very good for mobility. People often arguing about 60/40, 70/30 weight distribution, only to suck when their target is moving alot. Don't believe me? Watch a wing chun tournament in Hong Kong. They have zero balance. They violate everything they preach about structure.

    I think I understand what your saying, but you used several different footwork to demonstrate. This is because Traditional Wing Chun Footwork(Grand Master Cheung for me) WITHOUT using the defensive blocks and simultaneous traps and hits, in combinations of 2 to 3 at a time ...to keep him off you. Just the the footwork is not very good.
    That's why when he attacked you... you had to crab step and hop like a Western boxer to avoid him. Nothing wrong with that, I do understand your lesson, I'm just saying you showed MORE than Wing Chun footwork in the lesson. BECAUSE you took away the hands in this lesson.
