    When I windsurfed, a 105L on-shore wave board was my main board (at 88kg). Love bigger boards. I can only imagine they have greatly improved over the years!

    I tried this exact board in Fiji, I'm 85kg and it was sick.

    I’m 87kg and my board of choice was an 89l Grip. Bought a 99l Grip for float and ride days and it’s actually become my go to board for all conditions. Modern large wave boards are so much more versatile nowadays

    I used to windsurf a lot, but stopped for almost 4 years. A few years ago I returned windsurfing and bought G5 Flywave 92 lts, I'm 85 kg and the board is amazing, it doesn't feel that big, although I was used to ride around 80 lts boards or less.
    In thruster (3 fin) setup it's very loose for surfing, but a little too much slippery (ideal for small waves) but it's a little bit harder for sailing upwind.
    With the quad (4fins) setup it's still loose and you have the confidence to put all your weight on the top turn. It also gets easier to go upwind.
    I live in Chile and WS in spots that are mostly down the line oriented.

      Also forgot one of the best things of these "big" volume boards: Me, as a weekend warrior, many times the winds conditions are marginal. In the past you couldn't WS these days, but with this boards you can sail almost every time.

    The boards have gotten so much better the last decade, it's great. I'm 82 kg, and use a tabou 3s plus 96 for sails from 6 to 4 sqm,, mainly on flatwater. Although it's not really a wave board, it has the same loose feeling. Also you can tune the boards very well ( i use 4 and 9 cm larger centerfins than the standard 18 cm).

    Love big wave boards. At 115kg I love my SB Kode 135. So much easier to catch a wave.

    I fully agree on the benefit of 5 fin boxes. For us guys, it definitely gives various options to play with in different conditions with only 1 or 2 boards in your quiver. I'm much tempted to buy a big wave board for my next trip to Chile. I realised all non-pros ride 95+ liters boards there, because the wind is often gusty on the way into the break. A local lent me his board and it was soooo much easier to get waves and still comfy for the ride.

    Very nice.
    But, at 97 kgs this board would be my high wind sinker 🙂
    I really like the idea of wave boards with enough reserve volume for us ordinary guys sailing in far from ideal conditions.
    Have fun

    In all honesty I've never heard a bad thing being said about the Simmer Flywave. I am 88-90 kg and my 101 liter is the board I use a ton. In fact it's hard to say the split between my green 115 that you know. A well designed board that is big can really improve ones sessions when things aren't perfect. Wishing you some epic sessions!

    I'm 90 kg. I wasted years on a 85l wave board. So many missed jumps because it was light on the inside. I now have 92 and 104 l wave boards. I find myself grabbing the 104 even on 4.5 because it turns just as well but I can get going really quickly for the jumps. It's also much easier to get into the proper position to catch waves.

    I have been riding the 99 Flywave for many wave sessions with up to 2m in good shape waves. It handles very well, almost as good as the 92L. It is very snappy and agressive if you go to 16 or even 15cm fins. Smaller fins make a huge difference without any loss in control. Same for the 105 Quantum which is very nice but a rides a bit better in euro conditions than the Flywave. I love them all and barely use my smaller boards unless its howling.

    I bought this one at 85 lit for all around wave and I just love it . Earling planning -nice control . I'm 73 kg. and I believe it's not as much radical as the smaller flywave boards for my kg. I also have the 72 lit. for stronger wind and radical situations. Greetings from Greece

      Yep, the 72 is 🔥🔥… and perfect for you at 73kg.. I’m a bit big for it now. But when I was a bit lighter I thought it was amazing!

    I am just below 70kg and my only board at my wave spot is 88 liters with quad fin set up; I use it with sails between 4.0 and 5.2 and it works really good all the time. It is not performing any less than the below 80 liter boards that my fellow riders use... (Flikka board and Sailloft Quad sails)

  • @lucacoppini8683

    I'm keen to see the test of this board
    I sail a quantum 105 as big wave board and a flywave 92 as small one.
    In my home spot we have mushy wave a lot of current and gusty winds most of the time.
    This quiver allows me to always have fun in those conditions but when they turn right those boards are really Amazing.
    I'd like ti change my quantum 105 with the 99 flywave to have a more free boerd under my feet.
    Ben Number One!

    Big waveboards can be fantastic.. i built a wave-slalomboard in 2000 that wa 262x66 and 120l. My friends called it wave-course. It worked fantastic i light wind waves.

    I weight arround 78 kg, my small wave board is 85 lts and the big one is 103 lts... even though its a lot of volume, it works perfect in light winds, and sail 5.6

    Hi Ben. Its me again😂. I have a very important question for me. Which sail size do you prefer as the maximum sail size on this board in light wind conditions so that riding waves is still fun?

    Tell me about build quality difference between vietnam and Cobra ? My personal feeling that the boards is more robust, and maybe 200 g heavier.

      I can’t talk about other boards.. but I haven’t broke any boards since they were made in Kinetic (Vietnam) … and that now for Simmer has been a long time. But I’m not sure they are heavier.. mine are not heavy at all! But not weighed them.

    Its ridiculous to say its a big board. To say its a lightwind wave board makes sense. Over the past few years, board volume has become increasingly weak as an indicator in my opinion. how it feels on the water is what counts! Greetings

    • @rocketman-Zimmer14
      @rocketman-Zimmer14 3 месяца назад

      Dont get we wrong. I remember a time when experienced surfers explained to you that you weren't allowed to ride a wave board over 100 liters, otherwise it wouldn't be a waveboard. Back then, the largest series waveboards were 90L. You had the choice between custom made or not. That was pretty stupid for a 90 kg wave beginner.

    Question, why Fly Wave instead of Quantex?

    • @Ben-Proffitt
      @Ben-Proffitt  3 месяца назад +1

      Well to be honest they are both good al round boards.. but the Flywave is more edged towards better waves/ conditions. So when I would use a 99 wave board in Portugal is in float and ride. Light winds and good waves.

    I love the shape of my simmer boards but i find the none slip too harsh it ruins my sails , my freemove ate my sails when up hauling in light winds and trying to learn to wave sail my helix and flywve mark the sails in every crash, probably not something testers and pros come accross because like your real time videos you don't fall in 😂

    • @Ben-Proffitt
      @Ben-Proffitt  3 месяца назад +1

      Interesting as I’ve not had a problem. But if it is m too harsh you can give it a super light sand to take the edge off! I had to do that with the very old new wave custom like 30years ago haha.. it was like rock salt of something crazy sharp!!
