    I've been working with both QGIS and Blender separately and this is absolutely what I need for my workflow! Thank you for the tutorial. Keep enlightened us Nicko~

    Whoa, I'm accustomed to ESRI products but now i have another reason to use QGIS. 😂 This is awesome!

    Very informative tutorial. I subscribed!
    Curious. Could you share the method used to achieve the synchronized animation between QGIS view on the left and Blender on the right from the time interval of 0:41 to 0:59?

    Hi man, great job and thanks for sharing your knowledge. I'm trying to get the whole map of the USA for a 3D job, could you do the same process but instead of selecting a rectangular area, select only the country in question? And if possible, could you do QuickOMS but for the division of the states?

    Hi ! Great tutorial ! Just wanted to mention, when you change the CRS by going in the bottom right corner, it does a "on the fly" reprojection and not a "true" one (which you can get by using the toolbox). This usually has an impact when trying to merge data in QGIS but it might have implications when saving as a shapefile or when importing into blender but it's probably nothing

      Thanks for the comment, that is really good to know. I noticed that layers can have individual CRSs independent of the canvas CRS. Will be looking into it...

    Hi! I keep getting black height map. Everything is good until the export of the height map. It's always black :(
    Ah, you had black height map too. I think it's only for Blender GIS

    Thank You Nicko16. Could you share what is "WKT Reference" actually doing ? Trying to understand this workflow and can the "WKT Reference" be use in other parts of the world?

    • @Nicko16
      @Nicko16  2 месяца назад +1

      It is the description of a custom CRS, and yes, you can use it in other parts of the world. If you can get a latitude and longitude for a place you can insert it into the reference as per the video at 3:36

    New to Blender, but using this tutorial to help me produce some geometry in some other software. I was wondering is there a node setup that could read the top faces of the building mesh, and flatten them. Right now the extrude moves up in Z fine, but inherits the slanted geometry from the shrinkwrap, and I'd prefer if the top of buildings were planar in Z but still having variable heights.

    I know you can also get buiilding height data from OSM, if you use the map funcion of BlenderGIS and then later use get OSM, the buildings that have data will be the correct height, do you know how to get that data via QGIS?

    You can't make height maps from countries like Japan I think. Because the maximum area for SRTMGL1 is 450,000 km2. The selected area is 13,021,912 km2. So no use.

    I'm running through an issue where the height map seems to be coming out very pixelated. I seem to be getting the same issue when using only the BlenderGIS plugin to make the height map too. Is there just not enough data in some places in the world when using STRM 30m for height maps?

    • @Nicko16
      @Nicko16  2 месяца назад

      Yes it is possible that there is just not very much info in some parts of the world, would be interesting to know how much detail you see in the raster in qgis. There are also other sources of height data available such as the ASTER global elevation dataset, so its worth looking around for better sources.
      Also double check that your mesh is subdivided, as the level of detail can greatly effect the height map

    At 8:33 minutes, when I choose to "calculate from" my "layer area", all the north, south, east, and west values reset to 0, and I can't export, even though I followed the tutorial to the letter.
    Thanks for this tutorial

      QGIS can be a bit buggy with the coordinate extents. It is worth restarting the program and possibly redrawing your layer extents.

    When defining an extent to download with OpenTopography DEM Downloader, I am getting an area that is slightly tilted upwards, instead of the exact area defined. Is anyone running into this issue, or is it just me?

    • @andreaslouvros7885
      @andreaslouvros7885 11 дней назад

      I can workaround this problem, by initially getting SRTM data for larger area, and then exporting for the defined area. However, the exported height map is flat on the top and right parts and I don't see why is that.

    Why didnt you use the height info off the buildings? Isn't there a way of using ir in blender?

    • @Nicko16
      @Nicko16  3 месяца назад +1

      As far as I could tell, the shapefile that I used here, didn't have height data included in it. However, I believe that it is possible to have height data in a shapefile, yours might...many shapefiles do! Have a look at this tutorial: ruclips.net/video/WviTi0q2BpA/видео.htmlsi=VAw5I97oWkQ6Pghi

      Creating custom CRSs can be a bit glitchy in QGIS, sometimes making a new profile under
      Settings > User Profiles > New Profile...
      can help.

    What's wrong with using a CRS appropriate to Greece if they are already defined in QGIS and the Blender plugin?

      Nothing wrong with using a Greek CRS if already defined, also nice to define your own to suit specific needs.
