Richie Sambora is the sole reason I picked up a guitar in the first place and now im a guitar teacher full time thanks to the Sambora legacy. Adore his music, singing, playing, writing, even his personality. Awesome man
Hair metal was my guilty pleasure at the time.... I was playing in punk bands, so dared not say Poison or Bon Jovi😂 His writing and playing style is pretty iconic and underrated.
Apparently you haven't seen him lately. Richie is the reason I picked up the guitar as well. They used to call him The King of Swing... Now its The King of Sling cause the shit he's slinging on stage now is just terrible! Hope he wakes up before its too late. Sad how far he's fallen.
I'm glad I don't take lessons with you - after all Teachers are good at teaching other people how to play like THEM - aka a 3rd generation copy of bon jovi. HAHAHAHA BE ORIGINAL fool.
Richie sambora is seriously one of if not the most underrated guitarists in the world. I mean his tone is absolutely killer. I've spent a good month trying to get you give love a bad name down just right, but I just can't play the intro with as much expression and emotion that richie can. He definitely deserves more recognition than he has right now
I'm a huuuuge Eddie VH fan but Richie was actually my first guitar hero after playing to death Slippery When Wet aged 12 when it came out. The solo on Raise Your Hands made me want to be able to do that!!!!.......and no, I still can't!!
It was 1986, I was in junior high and I remember it was one faithful Saturday morning, I was watching one of those music video shows on TV and that's when it happened - the 'livin on a prayer' video was just released that week and hearing that talk-box guitar effect for the very first time was what changed my life forever and made me pick up the guitar and I have never looked back ever since.... I own an original Kramer RS from the late 80's as well as an original Fender Sambora that came out the same time as the Fender Clapton 'Blackie' strat in 1990 which also had the Fender active mid range boost......35 years later, having seen Sambora play live more than a handful of times and finding his playing more and more inspirational each time.... Sambora kicks ass !!
Amp-wise he used a simple Marshall DSL 100 for many tours. You can't go wrong with that. And I think he abandoned the chorus completely in the 90s. The talk box he used was a EHX Golden Throat, I think. Get a Floyd Rose, humbucker-equipped Strat with single coil in the neck position, a Marshall DSL-Series amp, a Boss SD-1, a decent delay (digital or analog doesn't matter) and you're practically there. If you want a Chorus, get the Boss CE-5 instead and for God's sake, plug it (like the delay) into the FX loop, if your amp has one. For the talk box sound, get one of the Rocktron Banshee.
Thank you so much for doing this video! Richie Sambora is my all time favorite guitarist. It’s because of him I love Kramers fenders and superstars in general. I even built a somewhat replica of his iconic Kramer RS because I can’t afford the issue. He is the most underrated guitarist of all time in my opinion!
Bon jovi was the band that got me into guitar.... if I can suggest a few gear guides for you dagan, here they are: - the beatles - rolling stones - chuck berry - duanne allman - the doors - bryan adams
Man I love your videos. I must admit though that the whole "H and Z" pronunciations from the UK crack me up. Just not used to hearing them pronounced that way LOL. I am a beginner on guitar and bass ( at 56 ) I was a singer all my life but gave up the stage and decided to go a new route. You have been very integral in my journey thus far. Thank you very much. P.S. I own a Dean Mustain Signature V, Epiphone 60's standard LP, Glarry burning fire (it's great actually LOL) and an Ibanez SR300E Bass. My wife has an Ibanez 335. We love to play and learn.
Saw them when they were the support act for Kiss in Glasgow! It was their 1st album and they were clearly destined for the top. Nice guide and sound by the way.
My brush with fame. I was playing guitar in a show case band in one of the studio stages at SIR studio in NYC for an artist. My wife, groupie , roadie & manager ( she supports my dream while she manages my reality) was in the lobby by the rental desk when David Bryan the keyboardist from Bon Jovi stopped and asked her who’s that guitarist playing he sounds really good. My wife told him thank you that’s my husband. We got to see their rental receipt for the Marshall amps and everything because they left it on the counter. It was their Have a nice day tour rehearsal that night. Then my wife and I wound up at a Irish bar down the way where the bar tender was a new father and was giving us shots of Paddy’s Irish whiskey. What a night.
I knew it was gonna be a great day... why? Becuz its Friday and while I'm getting ready for work I notice the long haired daff UK dude straight jamming on a white and gold Kramer to bon Jovi hahahah keep up the amazing work buddy
Even an Ovation acoustic in the frame - nice touch. Sambora's solo work gets no attention - 100X better than his stuff with Bon Jovi - and that was some great work.
Bruh, you are filling in for Richie's fingers far more convincingly than Phil X! (No shade on Phil - luv the guy! But he's not really even tryna sound like Richie, I don't think. Which part of me really supports , it's what I would WANT to do...ideally, as an original artist.. But..when we go to see Jon Bon Jovi, we are wanting that sound, think pinch harmonics chugging those low strings on Dead or Alive solo. Iconic!
Most of the 2000s Sambora used a JCM 2000 DSL and Silver Klon. In the old days it was a JCM 800 and an SD-1. His final tour with Jovi he was using a Friedman BE and Klon. Phil X used his rig on that tour. the talk box was a framptone
@@stevenmcdonald4464 Yeah during the 90's and 2000's he played all different amps, diezel, blackstar, fryette, JCM slash, fender tone master etc. most of those amps were only used for a short period of time, a year or so. Main amps over passed 20 years were the JCM 2000 and Friedman BE (past 8 years or so) both with a silver klon. The JCM 2000 makes sense as it was designed by the same engineer that made the JCM 800.
Bon Jovi are one of those bands that people seem to think it's cool to hate. There's a lot of music that's terrible and deserves to be hated but Bon Jovi aren't on that list. Itss okay if you don't like them, but hating is hem doesn't make you cool.
I can see what angle you're coming from, i love them for their classic rock/hair metal angle and i do like when they try a softer approach on stuff like Bed of Roses and Always
Back in the day they were a glam metal band and people loved them for that. Then they went soft in the 2000's and did Taylor Swift pop country tunes which pissed off a lot of fans. The only people who would of liked the soft side of bon jovi is literally teenagers living in the 00's
Great video my guitar idol. I do have to agree with one or two on here and feel he's lost his way recently. Be amazing to see him back with Jon. Wish I sounds like him but I'm light-years away. Great playing Dagen thanks!
This is Randy Rhodes said about Eddie Van “ he’s smoking mirrors” And I feel Richie Sambora is the same just something cool to look at and listen too Please don’t get me wrong. I love Richie and Warren. I love this, but if you categorize him into neurotic rhythm melodic lead And booked my book I wouldn’t say he comes close to melodic, but comes very close to lead I always wondered who his inspirations were
I have a white Kramer thats having the Bon Jovi new jersey jean jacket logo painted on as mentioned by Dagen by someone as we speak! Its nearly finished. It will look like the guitar in my profile pic.

I prefer a TS9 than an SD1 to boost my Marshall. The Boss is just a little ragged and raw compared with the smoother tube screamer, IMO. But they are close enough that if I only had one on me, I wouldn't be worried by it.
Man Dude can you play one my most favourite Bon jovi songs wanted dead or alive and you give love a bad name and bed of Roses Eliza Jane from United kingdom northern Ireland Ballymena age 36
Great video as always Dagan. Too bad this is all ancient history for Bon Jovi now. Look I love Phil X when he does is own thing but Bon Jovi live tone really sucks these days. I absolutely hate those moments when you're at a gig and your main thought throughout its duration is "gee i wish i could access ths stage and turn the bleeping pedal gain up". This is all Johns fault i feel. The band seem far more concerned about not turning off the ladies that attend and delivering some sort country rock performance that nobody wants to see. I’ve always been digging into Richie’s gear and technique, so really enjoyed this. Thank you for doing this, what an absolute blast!
The band Bon Jovi is not the same without Richie Sambora. He and his guitar were awesome!
Thats true. But they're still rocking and releasing great Albums!

Compared to the andertons version of this it's really quite nice to see someone actually be enthusiastic when talking about Sambora and his gear
Well done Dagan, some seriously good shredding there mate
Saw them when they were the support act for Kiss in Glasgow! It was their 1st album and they were clearly destined for the top. Nice guide and sound by the way.
The Bad Medicine studio recording verse is played with the Wah pedal on.....depressed down and not moved to give it that nasal sound.Great video man

"I'm not Richie Sambora"... Indeed, but you've got his hair !
Congratulation for the tone :)
My favorite from his baretta line is the Peace reverse head Baretta.. but from all of his guitars, still his signature.
awsome video Dagan I love that 80's classic rock/metal sound! well done man!

Damn sure agree with that!
Far better singer than Jon too!
His second solo album was magnificent. First one was good too.
@@the.communist 3rd was perfect 2
This is the greatest thing about the Quad Cortex. I have access to all those "holy grail" type amps and pedals through factory and captures.
Beautiful video!! You could make a video where you analyze his live sounds in every decade!

Badass tone great video!
CC Deville’s rig playing Ritchie Sambora.
id like to know more about dagans boots
12:42 I'd love to see a reissue of the Kramer Bad Medicine guitar.
this video came out in my birthday
can you do a kirk hammett one
i like richie sambora.
I really wanted a Kramer jersey star but I won't be able to afford it. I guess I'll save up for a HSS strat.
Or... You just get a line 6 helix and download a patch for any Sambora song you want 👏👏😍
that strat was smoking hot!
Couldn't find the correct whammy bar for the Kramer eh? ;)
Can you ship to Australia
I'd like to know that as well.
Just buy a helix if you can budget it people post there own downloads which sound decent for bon Jovi I bought that kramer it's 😍
He is the jack sparrow of guitar world. 😂 the way he moves man.
Why not show the OD-1 if that's what he used?..and a missed opportunity to show the Vocoder, it has a talkbox feature as well.
Its missing talkbox for livin on a prayer riff intro
Wow thats it💯
Do a rivers coumo gear guide
That Strat sounds way better than the Kramer.
Kramer🤘
OMG CAN WE GET A GEORGE LYNCH ONE!
finally!!!!!
"You can never look cool with a talk box"???

Nice guitar but i cant buy it
Not everyone can carry footwear like that off 😂
Sorry, that sounds like no Richie tone I've ever heard.
I own an Kramer Richie Sambora from the 80s and the only thing I never liked oa the headstock. Way to pointy.
Can u do a kiss video please
Yeah I wanna know how to sound like the session musicians on kiss albums.
Will you please stop dancing
Your tone has way more bite and distortion than Sambora had since the early days. His sound got watered down over the years. Sad to say.
Jon telling him what to play I'm sure...
Those boss SD pedals sound awful 😞... So synthetic... Too much flanger doesn't help either
blink 182 please
BON JOVI was in E tune in the 80s ...not Eb like this video ....FAIL, FAIL ,FAIL .
They tuned to e flat 1988 and been in e flat since then to preserve Jon straining his voice
Yet they always played in Eb live, so...... yeah....
@@jasonl1942 But for playng in home you play with backingtracks end they are in studio version key ...so ..FAIL FAIL FAIL again.

I think is in the wrong place, with the talk box the amp sounds go in to your mouth, here he's using the pedal before the overdrive...
It does to me
