I have watched Johan’s videos for quite some time and what stands out to me are his innate, highly developed mathematical skills. These are needed to perfectly reproduce the musical styles of the musicians he mimics. His brain interprets music as math formulas. He also has the talent to physically articulate the formulas into music. It is the same combination of abilities that musical savants employ when they perform difficult pieces. Johan also adds God-given heart, soul and discipline to the mix which allows him to progress into his own interpretations and inventions as he matures.
I have just discovered this. What a truly breathtaking performance you give of this great Oscar Peterson recording. Andrew Litton made a very special recording of OP transcriptions, and from these you realise these pieces are exceptional pieces of music, brilliantly conceived and as fresh today as they were when the master created them. But it takes supreme talent to realise them - which you have. Fantastic - and thank you!

14 years old and doing this. I grew up listening to all the jazz greats - my parents had 4000 jazz albums, 78s and 45s and they were played day and night. We had videos of the Oscar Peterson trio so I've heard him play a LOT. This amazing young man is able to play anything by anyone and more often than not, do it better. He has a very bright future and hopefully can bring back some of the great jazz classics from the 1930s to 1970s. His musical tastes cover a wide range but let's hope he stays away from putting rap into the mix. I think he's mature enough to avoid that. His parents apparently exposed him to jazz and old classics as he developed his skills from age 3.

he absolutely has great technique, but not better than oscar Peterson. As already sad, Oscar improvised this, and in my opinion you can hear him having some difficulties (for example at 0:15) with tempo.
