Very pleased with Atom 3D. Max isn’t lying about being involved in the forums. When I saw one of the people helping to solve my problem was an administrator I was like cool, but then I noticed “Alibre CEO” under his name…I was completely shocked! I think it’s great that he interacts at the user level.
Thanks for the content! I enjoy learning from your explorations.

I saw one conversation where Max defended the developers against criticism in the forums and I immediately thought if I ever become a boss like that I hope to be like that too. I agree, I was pretty surprised when he picked up my call!

How easy is not so much the approach, but the correct process flow and how intuitive the UI is... then 'easy' results. The video that covers "everything one should know about Alibre" is all that is needed. no nasty cloud, no prescription, perpetual licensing, affordable! ...and the only tool available that fits this scenario! ...a WINNER!

Really enjoyed this conversation with Max Freeman! It's fascinating to hear about Alibre's journey and the philosophy behind making CAD accessible to everyone. The insights into the evolution of the software and how it empowers users, from hobbyists to professionals, are truly inspiring. Great interview, and thanks for sharing such valuable perspectives!

I downloaded the trial version of Alibre for 3 hours ago. I started to design a heat-exchanger with U-tubes with nozzles, with everything. Furthermore, I've got ca. 15 years background with Solidworks - so I can get quickly in the Alibre philosophy. I've been using Freecad for a while - which is an excellent program - but there are some issues (still)
I needed a CAD software, parametric, and scripting capabilities (I used to write scripts/UI-s for Solidworks in VBA) - for ages ago I started python. After these hours, I can tell you, it is like love in a first sight. I tried some easy scripts too (generate U-tubes with various inner radius). Assembly is super-easy and straight forward.
I intend to my "general head-nozzle" connection export in STEP format and evaluate it with Salome-Meca and Prepomax (I like the pre- and post-processing capabilities of Prepomax but Salome has way more elements and meshing options) FEA.
(some CAD-System has issues with export, for example Design Spark. You can not export your model as a STEP - this is an additional feature for €800).
I'm going to test this software with various and heavy stuff (large HEX with 1000 tubes and columns). With 99% confidence, I'm going to buy the Expert version.
A stand-off CAD, python-scripting, cool assembly and modeling features, global variable?
Joko, you should get some sales badge from Alibre 😀

Thanks so much for the comment! I enjoy Alibre quite a lot too, and I'm glad to see someone using the scripting feature!

Hi - I just want to correct the above comment about the Step translator cost in Designspark Mechanical. The bundle offering of Exchange, plus the Drawing Module is around that price. These modules extend free DSM ( which I think is great for the hobbyist) into the professional realm of engineering - like supplying high quality steps files ( unlike some free versions) for use in FEA analysis. These are lifetime perpetual licence add-ons without any further cost. Personally I always preferred dynamic CAD over parametric but there's no argument with me over the benefits of going parametric in certain design cases.
Alibre looks a good CAD tool and Joko does a exemplary job in his crafted demonstration examples.

Great interview, really enjoying these. I hope the good folks at Alibre choose to sponsor your videos, your channel is great for hobbyists wanting to learn the process.
For Max: Thank you for taking the time to do the interview, made me more excited for the future of Alibre. Wondering if there are plans for "super user" resources, like books, or perhaps a certification process? My only complaint about Alibre is the lack of a skill development path, whether it be for professional or hobby use.
    Thank you both!

I have used several CAD programs over the years. Now that I am retired, I wanted a CAD program that is practical, powerful, user friendly and cost effective. I started out with Alibre Atom 3D. Liked it so much I upgraded to Alibre Design Expert. The money I spent on Atom 3D was applied to the purchase of Design Expert, which is a very customer friendly thing to do.
I see a lot of hobby channels promoting other, cloud based CAD software, that like Max said, is not in the best interest of the community. I always post a comment that people should check out Alibre Design's options.
Thank you Joko for all your work to help people get started in Alibre Design and thank you Max, for developing a product that has the best interests of the user in mind. It is a philosophy that is disappearing from the world and it is good to see that Alibre stands by the people.

    Thanks for this interview Joko.
I have Alibre design V23 and don't feel the needs right to purchase a newer version and this is what make Alibre very attractive. Alibre was my start in this 3D world modeling. I was so disappointed when Alibre was purchased that I did not purchase subsequent versions. But when they became independent again, I didn't hesitate to buy Alibre again.
Today I'm design an electric 3-wheeler and have also designed my electric motor. It's partially built.
For does of you who are novice, if you want to start with a great software, Alibre is an excellent start.

I am glad that Max has taken the reins of a company that has stiff competition yet sells a very capable product. I have toyed with Alibre for a few years but recently getting serious with it as I develop for 3D printers and don't care for the AutoCad model of subscription software. Can't yet afford the pro version and still using Atom3D but like it and learning more every day.

As a Sculptor Artist, the "simplicity" of Alibre Designer is opening the universe of tools I wish existed from my dreams into reality! The lifetime license allows the hobbyist time to refine entry skills and designs, eventually, into professional skills and working prototypes. I sincerely thank the very kind folks at Alibre as well as the generous tutorials I tediously follow to perfection from Joko Engineering. This is how humanity lives to our fuller potential.

Well done interview Joko, very interesting and informative. And thanks to Max for taking the time to come on. I’m a happy Atom user for many of the reasons covered in the interview-it just works and it works very well. I do occasionally find myself wishing I could do patterns and mirroring when making assemblies but that’s admittedly a convenience thing as a non-pro user. Overall I think Atom is a great value and like Joko am appreciative that Alibre is filling this niche.

Write it on the forums, the CEO actually reads it. If enough ask they will make it happen. Or write to them directly, it's a pretty small group in texas, I'm sure someone will read it and bring it up so at the monthly meeting when talking about what people want, it'll be mentioned.

Excellent product. Too bad there are no plans for Linux since Windows 11 is effectively subscription SW now. Not needing a subscription is a big reason why many want to use Alibre in the first place.
P.S. I hear, but cant confirm, that Alibre won't work with Wine because of the DirectX 11 requirement which Wine does not support

    • @JokoEngineeringhelp
      @JokoEngineeringhelp  2 года назад +3

That's too bad, I think the real dilemma here is getting something Linux compatible takes a huge amount of resources.

    • @jjdawg9918

@@JokoEngineeringhelp Given that Linux is < 2% of the desktops and I assume that CAD is a tiny small fraction of that, I completely understand that there is simply no business case for it. I still wish Alibre the best and success with this awesome product.

@@jjdawg9918 Yeah, but now .net core works on linux and windows, so if the UI components they are using would work, they could do it.
