- The Xbox news is getting out of control because of the Xbox vs FTC trial of Xbox Activision Blizzard deal with confidential Microsoft information coming out that Xbox was targeting developers like Bungie and IO Interactive and publishers like Sega for acquisitions.

Phil Spencer’s vision is starting to come into view for me. Activision/Blizzard with 1 release a year at least, whether it be COD or something else, with a focus on multiplayer. Bethesda with 1-2 releases a year focusing on single player. XGS with 1-2 a year focusing on a variety of things. Meaning Xbox gets a major game each quarter on Game Pass with diversity, and an expansion into the mobile market. Competing with Sony, and making it VERY difficult for Amazon or Google to catch up.
Not mention Sega for that foothold in Asia. Smart business.

Asobo is my n1 pick when it comes to a single Developer studio aquisition. However, It looks like MS has a 10 year deal with them for supporting their games like Flight Sim.
ALSO, looks like they are developing an Exclusive Racing Game for Xbox with the Forza Tech Engine ( Forza Horizon & Forza Motorsport, Fable, Flight Sim etc)
Maybe they know that Asobo isn't for sale given their close relationship.
It is quite possible that they have an agreement with Asobo.

I'd personally prefer if they acquired Sega instead of ABK, they have many more franchises that interest me. Sega Saturn was my first console, and Sega franchises being on Gamepass, including backwards compatibility going back all the way to the Master System would be awesome.
I think Sonic would remain multiplat, at least being released on Nintendo, but their franchises could help with Xbox's Japan presence.
But overall, I think ABK is what will provide more value for Xbox and Gamepass, worldwide..
I'd have preferred it also. Plus it is much much less expensive. Leaving them money to do other things. But if COD keeps on selling it would be a game changer.

Damn. Really bummed to see Asobo didnt make their final top considerations. I think they are incredible developers. The narrative they made and game/s in general with the plague tale games are top notch and the technology they put into flight simulator and attention to detail is absolutely insane.
True but the contract between them for MSFS Im pretty sue is iron clad; even if they were bought by somebody else. So there is no direct need to buy them.
It's possible Microsoft already tried to acquire them in 2018-19 and they refused, so Microsoft left them off this list.
Another company purchased 30% of Asobo in 2020. They clearly didn't want to sell 100%, which is what Microsoft would want.
Around the same time Microsoft made a 10 year deal with Asobo for Flight Simulator.

I wish both Sony and MS would stop trying to buy other studios. It's bad for gamers. It's never good if one company basically creates a monopoly. It might look good now, but once a company has a monopoly, it will completely change their strategy. Prices will go up. Services will decline in quality. We need competition. Competition keeps the market healthy, and is more beneficial for gamers. Companies only care about our money, nothing else.
Sony doesn’t really have the money to make these purchases as casually as Microsoft. Sonys only real large acquisition Bungie isn’t even making exclusives

MS needs a Japanese publisher if it wants to establish a presence QUICKLY. At minimum, it needs several strong development teams.
Sega offers established IP in the fighting genre. JRPGs. Family entertainment. Mobile. All major gaps in MS catalog.
Questions are...
How much? MS would almost certainly pay a premium for any Japanese company it buys.
Does Sega want to be bought?
How much independence will MS offer? If Sega wants the freedom to publish on PS then maybe a strong partnership might be better.
Ownership will mean XBox will become the main development platform for a number of strong IPs favored in Japan. But it may also stir resentment.
It won’t happen as it won’t get through regulators after acquiring ABK.
@@mitchjames9350 Probably won't happen but the truth is that the market is diverse enough that MS can acquire several other publishers without major consequence or loss of competition. As far as that aspect is concerned, the real problem is Sony which has a real or de facto monopoly in seversl markets and has zero qualms about abusing the power that bestows.
As far as MS is concerned, however, the issue is politics. Nothing more, nothing less.

I think Xbox should buy Sega and when they release a new console name it the Xbox Genesis and in Japan name it the Sega Genesis X. Xbox could use the brand Sega in Japan.

Honestly I think bohemia interactive could be a strong possibly for Xbox considering how much work they do with the US military could help with developments like project future soldier.

9:30 Interesting that the list of developers and publisher names in the Consideration Set is based on CUMULATED HOURS and not by sales or alike. Which shows, that MS is interested to invest in games, in which players spend most of their time, which means, if players stick to a game longer, the chances are higher that they spend money on microtransactions
As much as I dislike "insider" gossips Microsoft going after Sega always made sense to me due to their close relationship post dreamcast. The og xbox was, in a way, the dreamcast's spiritual successor.
If microsoft really wanted a leg in japan and also keep growing in the US, their biggest market, then Sega is a company that fills both boxes.

Remember when $2-3 billion was a lot? I wonder if he was talking about money hatting, as I don't think you would get that many studios for that amount. Even if that was meant as a loss, i.e., over-paying, it still wouldn't go that far in acquisitions.

I would say after the injunction from the FTC falls through. And early July Microsoft announces that they are finalizing the deal for Activision. soon after we should expect other announcements like paradox or something with Sega. After all we can all see is very weird most of the games of paradox and Sega game are on game pass or where at some point. That clearly shows how close the relations are between companies. The Sega deal however is probably harder since most likely has to be approved by Japanese government.

Look what they are focused on gamepass and cloud.The lack of series X being produced and the narrative of play anywhere, phone, tablet, pc, handheld pc, TVs, the firestick equivelent in development, yet rarely any marketing aimed at the actual consoles. Development of games isn't focused on the consoles either it's aimed at the cloud and pc market.
They need games to feed gamepass and they can't keep paying for 3rd party titles. If the ABK deal goes through they will have 38 studios and they have already said they aren't done buying studios. There is a very real risk they will have a monopoly of content, that no other company will ever be able to match.
They don't want to win the console war they want to end consoles with services. The same way Netflix, Disney +, paramount +, etc has killed the sales of video, DVD, Blueray players.
The series x/s imo will be their penultimate console as cloud gaming will be ready within that timeframe.
5-7 years left this generation plus another 8-10 for next takes us to midterm of 6G mobile network having launched and implemented on most networks, with 7G round the corner.

Latency for 4g was 50ms 5g is currently 10ms expected to hit 1ms.
At conservative estimates 6G would be 500mbs with 1ms or slightly less latency. Current cloud gaming on a good connection can be close to localised levels.

This pretty much just confirms what Phil Spencer said they were doing since this generation became (and really since he’s been in charge and bolstering the first party lineup back during the late end of the One generation). I remember even after Zenimax them announcing that they won’t slow down growing and are always looking for acquisitions to bolster Xbox.

I would like MS to acquire Ubisoft. Ubisoft doesn't know what they're doing right now. They're sitting on single-player gold mines like Assassin's Creed, Splinter Cell, Prince of Persia, and Far Cry. They should stop with the GaaS BS.
But I think Larian Studios is such a perfect fit for Xbox. Xbox is going to be the home for Western RPGs. Larian is going to solidify that.

Team Ninja should be an obvious get for Xbox, IOI is a maybe depending on price and Certain Affinity could be a thing if their Monster Hunter clone is good and does well.
Sega is out of the cards after ABK, but Rocksteady and Monolith from WB are interesting.

People want Sarah Bond as Phil Spencers successor.BUT IT HAS TO BE MATT BOOTY and no one else. Yeah maybe his remarks will get the deal blocked but Xbox needs to be as ruthless as Sony and Matt Booty has shown he's got what it takes.
Sega would make more sense to me than ABK, but the only ABK game I like is StarCraft and to a lesser extent Diablo. Sega would give you a huge mindshare in Japan, could market it as the Sega Series X in Japan, and give you Yakuza/SMT/Persona/PSO and the entire back catalogue. Resurrect Skies of Arcadia, House of the Dead, Panzer Dragoon, etc. With Sega the amount of game pass content could be almost limitless.

Back in the 360 days Xbox tried to buy Nintendo and the Nintendo ceo just laughed at them, they also tried to buy sega back in the day and got a firm no thanks. 360 days Xbox was trying to buy a lot of studios. Xbox one days really hurt them so I’m glad to see Xbox going hard again.

The FTC is there to protect consumers, NOT Sony or ANY corporation. Whether Microsoft's new business strategy does better than Sony's old one is NOT FOR THE FTC to regulate.
Xbox has never claimed they don't want to be the biggest in the video game market. What video game company WOULD say that? No, Microsoft is saying their new business model, Phil Spencer's new "future of gaming" strategy of offering games players can enjoy on multiple platforms, is better for consumers. But at the same time, most all of Sony's complaints are based on practices THEY are using, too, or are busy trying to expand, such as paying developers to keep games exclusive, buying developers up, and expanding cloud gaming.
Jim Ryan and the PlayStation fanboys spent years mocking Phil Spenser over Game Pass and cloud gaming. Now, they're crying foul? Whaaaaaaah!

They didn't even try to think about approach TakeTwo because they knew grand theft auto is as big as it gets. The scrutiny would have been through the stratospere.
I was most excited about Xbox starting the Initiative and making new games rather then just buying studios. However how poorly it sounds like Perfect Dark is going I doubt Xbox doubles down on that direction.
The Initiative was a flop idea. After seeing the failure of The Initiative, Microsoft has no interest in growing organically

It's been over a year that people's emotions have gone bankrupt by media outlest/youtubers/twiter posts etc, by milking this merger or any other thing.
He who is self aware and lives life from an observant point of view, sees life as a comedy. He who is not, sees life as a tragedy. I been following this thing for a while and I gotta say, what a comedy. I been playing playstation mostly since 1995. Playstation gave me more games/fun then I could ever asked for. But if playstation disappears this second, nothing will change in my life. I read, write, paint, draw, garden, fast, meditate, exercise and many more things you can do to live a healthy, free deep meaningful life.
Long story short, keep emotions under control or else you'll be bankrupt (physically, emotionally, mentally, spiritually) by them (the emotions triggerings). Never worship any corporation, public figures, politicians, celebrities etc. All of you (both sides) that are argueing over corporations/pieces of plastic are a result of their experiment. Who are they? The masterminds at Tavistock Institute,the thinktanks that social engineer society.
These content creators (more like gossipers) are minions doing THEIR (social engineers at Tavistock) job, affect your emotions for personal gain not realizing that these youtubers are bigger slaves then the regular suscribers because these youtubers have no morals, money/personal gain has numbed their front part of their brain (consciousness). At least in the comment section there are a few that think for themselves.
The quality of your thoughts words and actions determine if you live an empowering, virtuous, thinking for SELF life or not.
P.S. Energy (inner-g) is your life currency (current sea), do not waste it away (going against the river). Invest it to create a better world (flow with natural existence) and not a chaotic one. When you have no clue why you exist/why you're here (on Earth), what does life mean etc, you are easily swayed by heartless, left brained institutions/corporations/people (*smarter zombies). Smart is different than intelligent. An intelligent person is by default smart, but a smart person is not intelligent, can be only with a brain and heart that are coherent/aligned with the Source/Nature/Divine. I hope Microsoft never buys Sega. The day that happens is the day that I give up on console gaming for good. Sega has to stand strong on its own. Sega should never be forced to bend over. Sega does what Nintendon't.
Microsoft would have a very hard time passing regulators buying Sega if the ABK deal goes through, best they can do is buy shares to guarantee Sega games stay on gamepass.
Yeah maybe they could buy 30 percent, but it would make more sense to just pay to get there games on gamepass, pay it what its worth but not too much. Make the math work and if its good for both parties, they can keep it going.

Oh yeah and ign just reported that perfect dark basically isn’t even a game yet that it just keeps restarting development. No perfect dark anytime soon. I wanted to play Diablo when it launched but for some reason that isn’t on gamepass.
No they need to buy wb or at least make some exclusivity deals so xbox can get a superhero game
