  • The winter solstice is a moment of wonder and quiet mystery.
It marks the longest night and shortest day of the year, a cosmic turning point where darkness begins to wane, and the light starts its slow, steady return. Throughout history, this celestial event has been a source of awe and inspiration, celebrated for its promise of renewal and transformation.
With music by Magda and lyrics by Malena Marcase “The shortest day of the year” was written for the listeners that are seeking comfort during the darker months.
It is a consolation and tender reminder that even in the darkest moments, the light is never far away.
It was composed during the winter solstice of 2020.
It's dedicated to my nephew, baby Christopher, born on December 30th, 2024
    LYRICS
"On the shortest day of the year
The darkest day of the year
    I wait
    I’m waiting for a moment
just a little moment till I start coming your way.
On the longest night in the sky
When the weary dream of July
    Believe
    Watch a moonglade ripple
    Mystic as a riddle
    And know that surely it’ll
Grow to light your tired way
When the days, turn to a chill
And the nights, grow colder still
    Hang on
    While the earth is sleeping
    Hush your silent weeping
    The promise I am keeping
    Carries on
When it seems there’s no end in site
To the dark, to the absence of light
    Just wait
Wait a little moment, just a little moment
Til you see me coming your way
    With nothing more between us
    mercury and venus
Ne’er am I so far away"
