I remember first hearing this on the radio and thinking, "OOh! ABWH must have put another album out!" I never did figure out whether this was Bill Bruford on drums but that is unmistakeably Tony Levin on Chapman Stick, and the guitar has the same sound Steve Howe had on much of the ABWH album. Beautiful song, what a gem. Thanks for posting this.
Count upon the sun As it will always watch you growing Count upon the land To sow the seeds in every young man. Beating on the drum Shouting at the moon No matter what the promise is I'll never move from this old land of mine. The promise is to pay Just watch the people try to steal The land beneath the clay The land on which our blood has stained the grass. Beating on the drum Screaming at the moon Promises, oh promises I'll never move from this old land of mine. It's a far far cry >From all the words of exultation A far far cry How each child is supposed to be equal I'm amazed As you look the other way To this day We still don`t believe Far far cry Beating on the drum Far far cry Screaming at the moon Beating on the drum Far far cry How long do we need to push our brother to the ocean How long do we need to push our sister to the sea How many broken promises until we get the message That until we know the equal we will never feel the free? It's a far far cry It's a far far cry It's a far far cry So until we know our equal We commit our suicide. Beating on the drum Screaming at the moon Count upon my heart As you can feel the earth is beating Count upon my love And there is heaven for the taking Count upon the rest Count upon the last Count upon the past As it will wait until we're coming home. Far far cry It's a far far cry It's a far far cry It's a far far cry How long do we need to push our brother to the ocean How long do we need to push our sister to the sea How many broken promises until we get the message That until we know the equal we will never feel the free? It's a far far cry Beating of the drum Far far cry Screaming at the moon Far far cry Beating of the drum Far far cry Screaming at the moon
Jon here is warning us all that if we do not give and change our way from war ,greed, hat and of course stupitity then we will be brought back to a conditing of a third world country. Change We Must.!!.Peace and love to you all.

I stumbled across this song here and right away I knew it was a great one. I really like this song. Jon is a great artist. Thank you Wambatinger for posting this.
Always loved the Requiem for the Americas compilation! There's a ton of great songs on it, including spoken-word poetry from Jim Morrison. But the two tracks from Jon Anderson are the best! Thanks for editing out the ill-placed Michael Bolton vocals at the end, LOL!
Thanks wombatinger for posting this marvelous song and video!!! Let's pray that Jon gets well and healthy soon and graces us with some more of his divine compositions. cygnus
dengwms, the song you are thinking of is off the anderson, bruford, wakeman, howe album. it rocks! first cd i ever bought when i transistioned off vinyl. yes that is jim morrison reciting his own poetry at the beginning
There's another song Jon did for Requiem... I can't find it anywhere. Starts out with Grace Jones 'howling'. I believe it was called 'Within the Lost World'. Starts out: Brothers of the sun ascend Be amongst us Be there not afraid... Anyone seen (heard) it?
I've been looking for some trace of Jonathan Elias's Requeium for the Americas. Thanks so much for posting this!! I do think people need to know what the proper credits for this (and the other songs) are, so the videos don't get removed like so many of the ones I love are frequently.
Nope. It was written by Elias, Chandler and Anderson.^_^ I wish some of the others got the airplay this one did. It was the only one to have a video which played on MTV.
According to the jacket, its Sherman Foote and Jim Nicholson on "drum programming" (boooo!) and that is indeed Tony Levin. Guitars were Warren Cuccurullo and Ray Foote.

"Within The Lost World" is the first track on "Requiem...". My favorite vocalist and favorite drummer, Jeff Porcaro on the same song!

does anyone recognize jim morrison's voice on the intro," moonshine night, mountain village in the woods...." ??
The wolfs' eyes at 2:58- does anyone else see an overwhelming sadness there?
Thanks wombatinger for posting this marvelous song and video!!! Let's pray that Jon gets well and healthy soon and graces us with some more of his divine compositions.

Thanks for uploading this. BIG thanks for editing out Michael Bolton! :)
I too appreciate Michael Bolton being edited out.

Only Tommy Shaw could sing high harmonies for Jon Anderson! This album has aged well!

Very cool video! I know some of the tribal people who were involved in this.
Of course I have, being related to one of the writers, I have maybe three copies of the old album. I have two vinyls and a CD.
Jonathan Elias, Chan Chandler and Jon Anderson wrote this. Credit indeed must be given. Thanks (Chan's sis).
vhs ...when did this come out...i guess 80s..but it kicks ass ...jon is my fav..the best soul to walk the planet
1989
Nope. It was written by Elias, Chandler and Anderson.^_^ I wish some of the others got the airplay this one did. It was the only one to have a video which played on MTV.
The mighty Tony Levin on stick!
