    Please do a video about your finger lime. I'm in California and we just bought a finger lime from a local nursery. It's a beautiful little tree and I want to be sure we're caring for it how it needs to be cared for. We have to keep it in a container for the time being, so if you have tips on how to keep it healthy in a container, I'd love to see them!

    Mark took me awhile to find who selling this Sunrise lime and i got me one the other day from Ross Creek, and it came in transport box with a growing sample yummo!! I have this lady at work that has Kumquat tree and she makes annual pie or torte for the staff luncheon. I was tempted in buying a cumquat plant she told me she does nothing for it and it grows a tonne im still in two minds with the tartness of Cumquat but i thought i try the local one instead. I also picked me up a a few months before a Russell River Finger lime i cant wait for it to flower and fruit. keep up the Collection of Natives mate:)

    Love your videos Mark you're awesome!
    Could you maybe do a video sometime on just how self-sufficient you are?
    For example how much produce, meat etc do you buy at the grocery store versus homegrown

      That's a good idea. I'm aiming for self-sufficiency and it'd be interesting to see how self sufficient you are with all of that.

    Have you ever heard of the paw paw fruit/tree? I'm in Maryland, USA. We have them in some places around here. It's sometimes referred to as the "hillbilly banana". It's very sweet and does taste similiar to a banana. It looks a bit more like an avacado. The texture is a bit like an avacado also, but the seeds are small.

    • @Selfsufficientme
      @Selfsufficientme  7 лет назад +2

      Yes we can grow pawpaws here also although we're not overly keen on them. I don't mind the fruit myself but it's one of the few fruits my wife and kids don't like so I don't grow them here. Thanks for the suggestion though! Cheers :)

    Hi Mark could I ask a question please we have one of these trees which is fruiting well and growing well, foliage is a beautiful colour. The fruit is abundant but it is very dry to eat, we had one in WA and it was similar except it was sweet and juicy. We are in Queensland so the climate is suitable but can't find any reason for it being dry and bland, hope you can suggest a fix thanks.

    Hey mark do you have any experience with the native finger lime tree? Cheers.

    • @Selfsufficientme
      @Selfsufficientme  7 лет назад +2

      +bowie19jan Yes mate we've got about 7 native lime trees most are quite young 2-3 years and one that's about 10. I need to write more about them and do a proper video but a few points to note are: many of the trendy varieties with different coloured flesh sold are seedlings which grow quite slowly so buy a grafted tree if you want a faster fruiter; being a native they do have established pests, in particular, borers and caterpillars both should be controlled especially if you see any sudden die back look for a borer and kill it quick smart! Don't over fertilise, use trace elements if some leaves go yellow, prune excessive branches to prevent it from going too bushy - it makes harvesting easier as the branches are very thorny. Overall they are a great tree to grow with an amazing unique fruit. I know a strawberry farmer who is converting to finger limes he reckons it's the next big thing. Cheers :)

    I'm having a hard time growing a citrus tree. I have a mandarin orange and a satsuma and they look healthy and grows a lot of fruits however they all falls down at a very premature age and only few remains out of which only 1-2 fruits grow uptil a normal lemon size and the rest like not even a size of sparrow eggs, starts to ripe and test disaster and go to waste. Any suggest for this problem. I do add goat manure often and also do take care of watering and even the plants looks healthy but are not giving quality fruits...

      Hi Azim, that is an unusual problem particularly since you say the trees look healthy and are growing well. I'm wondering if the trees are missing some important micronutrients/trace elements needed for citrus to fruit. Perhaps you could try some liquid feed general trace elements or a seaweed concentrate watered in the base of the trees and on the leaves this may help. All the best! :)

    Got to do an alcoholic video, m8!
    I have been doing Reishi mushroom pressure cooker extraction with vodka. Believe you can do lemon chello the same way. Cream lemon chello needs to have acid buffered with bicarb to stop cream curdling.

      I'm partial to a nice liqueur John so yes I do want to try it with citrus. What I have done is marinate chillies and kaffir lime leaves to make Thai cocktails - we did it at Xmas and it was a big hit! I should do a video about it, cheers mate :)
