Toni and I are slowly making our way back to Southern California after an incredibly fun string of shows with our friends Josh Turner and Carson McKee. We stopped at a cabin near Mt. Hood in Oregon to shoot this little stripped down cover of Tears for Fear's 80s classic "Everybody Wants to Rule the World."

Reina del Cid is a folk singer songwriter and leader of the eponymous folk rock band based in Los Angeles and Minnesota. What I am constantly amazed at is your ability to give a faithful interpretation of others songs but still make it your own. The two of you put out such a full sound. Nothing is wasted.
Toni is so damn cool... and THE coolest thing about her is that she doesn't even worry about being cool. She just is.
Brilliant! It's not minimalistic, its refined. Every important nuance from the original song is present and it's spacious and intimate at the same time.
When I was about 5 years old I remember my mom was driving a VW bug and this song came on the radio, it captivated me and is still my favorite song.
The more I listen to these two the more impressed I am. Is there any song they can't do and make it their own. Great job as usual ladies.

This was a big hit in uk in the 80s. I grew up in the 80s with this type of music..40 years later I’ve learnt to appreciate it. The Annie Lennox song was really great too..❤️

its amazing how, i've heard this song over and over, the chorus mostly on commercials, tv shows, movies, the radio, this song must be like 30 years old, its been in my face thousands of times, i've even sung along BUT I never truly experienced it organically on my own, Until Just Now. something about the fact you are choosing to record it Today, 30+ years later brings something significant and now its like im hearing this song for the first time, now I know how awesome the lyrics, guitar, mood, emotion how powerful this song really is, its an anthem i need in my life right now and im saving it to a playlist and really i just cant wait to listen to the lyrics again. amazing song, thanks!

C K if you’re referring to whom I think you’re referring to it’s not just a part of the world, it’s about putting everyone in distress around the entire globe. I’d say that is wanting to rule the world.

Well done. You manage to bring out a sweetness in the melody and significance in the lyrics I never noticed before in the original. Miles better harmonies than in the original, too.

I never particularly liked the original so this folk/rockish version sounds better to me. Nicer vocals. Matter of opinion, I hasten to add.

Just yesterday I watched a recent interview with Tears For Fears and only a couple days ago watched a recent performance of them doing this song. They sound as great as ever. That said, great song choice and excellent job, girls!

Always loved this song. It’s unorthodox and original. And the movie Real Genius where they put a giant Jifffy Pop in William Atherton’s house and use the laser to destroy it with popcorn.

Child of the 80s here. I really enjoy how you are embracing more and more songs from that decade. Your version of "Don't dream it's over" was an absolute blast.
Considering how much electronics, synths and advanced production techniques were in use back then, doing this with two guitars only might not seem a very obvious choice, but you pulled it off perfectly. This is a testiment to your level of musicianship.
