    15:27 as good as oversimplified is Jutland was neither the only sea battle of the war or the only time that predreadnoughts/dreadnoughts/battleships/battlecruisers were deployed. There’s the Raid on Scarborough, Harltepool, and Whitby where German Battlecruisers shelled those towns. Gunfire support in the Darenelles campaign. The first battle of Dogger Bank. The bombardment of Ancona. The battle of Rufiji Delta. The bombardment of Yarmouth and Lowestoft. The Action of August 16th 1916. The second battle of Heligoland Blight. The Battle of the Gulf of Riga. The Battle of Moon Sound. The Battle of Imbros. Naval bombardment during the Battle of Tsingtao. The Battle of the Falkland Islands. Just to name some. And the British Dreadnoughts did their job to maintain the blockade alongside other ship classes to keep the majority of the German Navy from escaping and wrecking havoc in the North Sea and Atlantic. Oh and more mundane tasks like convoy escorting.

    Carpet bombing, also known as saturation bombing, is a large area bombardment done in a progressive manner to inflict damage in every part of a selected area of land. The phrase evokes the image of explosions completely covering an area, in the same way that a carpet covers a floor. Carpet bombing is usually achieved by dropping many unguided bombs .

  • @Cyricist001

    A lot of British propaganda in this video, oversimplified used "Jerk" and breaking rules as humor but it does warp perception. For starters Britain blockaded food imports to Europe, not only a strategy against civilians but also against the war rules. The Lusitania was also transporting ammunition and the US passengers were warned they are sailing into an active combat zone, on top of that Britain forced Germany to torpedo ships by breaking the rules and armed civi ships with guns aka Q ships, also there was a rule ships won't call for help when a submarine takes them captive, British ships broke that rule. The German "atrocities" in Belgium were also greatly exaggerated.

    This was not carpet bombing, the bombing here was sporadic and generally only one or two Zeplin bombers.
    Carpet bombing involves dozens if not hundreds of bombers, bombing a single area flattening it like a carpet.

    Carpet Bombing is a specific type of bombing that obliterates an area in one attack. Dropping so many bombs at once that it "carpets an area" indiscriminately.
    You can drop one bomb at a time indiscriminately, but that isn't the horror of carpet bombing. Just like in fire bombing where thousands of incendiary devices are dropped indiscriminately.. carpet bombing drops hundreds of bomblets from one bomber, an entire area gets bombed hundreds of times in an a few moments.

  • @ttttllll1
    @ttttllll1 3 года назад +2

    14:00 "carpet bombing" is when you drop thousands of tiny bombs at once from a plane instead of one big one to destroy a large area (like covering it in a "carpet" of explosions). makes it pretty much impossible to aim at anything (which leads to lots of collateral damage) and the amount of unexploded bombs that might get stuck in the ground is also usually really high, which is why it's generally forbidden by the geneva convention (even though some countries like the USA still do it sometimes)

    Franz Ferdinard was killed by the brave hero Gabriel Princip. Bosnia was occupied by Austria and wanted freedom. But that is not the reason for the war, but an excuse. Because the war could not be avoided and one way or another would begin.

    Carpet bombing is when a bomber released many bombs in a line. It's different to regular strategic bombing because there isn't a set target. So instead of sending one bomb into a factory you're sending many bombs into an area. It's done to do as much damage to an urban area as possible.

    You have the right idea when it comes to carpet bombing. Usually in warfare and especially world war 2 there were 2 types of bombings. Carpet bombing and strategic bombing. Strategic bombing (mostly used by the Americans and at the very start of the war, the British) was the bombing of specific targets in a certain area, these targets were mostly factories making the war material necessary to fuel an army, and oil facilities. Sometimes navy bases as well. It's aim was to slow down and cripple production, the down side to this was that bombing raids of this sort was unreliable and the bombs rarely hit their targets until the allies came up with better bombers and a more precise targeting "system", which would make the bombing raids more accurate and the bombardiers could accurately pinpoint when to drop the bombs. Then there is carpet bombing (mostly used by the British) which was bombing without specific targets in mind, their target is to cause as much destruction as possible. The aim was to cripple civilian morale. Unfortunately many civilians were caught in the bombings.

    also for some reason Germany was completely blamed for war world 1 however it was the Austro Hungarian empires ally and when the austro hungarians archduke Franz ferdinand was assassinated they declared war,Germany being its ally was pulled into the war with it,when they lost Germany was held solely responsible for all the damages from the war in all the countries and it was one of Germany biggest humiliations they werent allowed an army afterwards and Germanys economy wasn't able to take on all the debt they were forced to pay this was one of the biggest factors in Germany and their rise to war world 2 hitler uses the armistice and Germanys humiliation as a major motivating factor for the people falling under hitlers spell and lead many to vote for him because he used world war 1 and Germanys loss and heavy humiliation and sole blame for ww1 as a big reason for so many to follow hitler and not stop him because he gave the people in their minds a reason to be proud to be german and to make up for their utter disgracr in ww1

Blockade was export only - and Germany still maintained imports of certain key resources through neutral Netherlands. 12:45 Again, not strictly correct. Middle East had plenty of proven oil reserves, but infrastructure to extract, refine and pump oil for export was virtually non-existent. Majority of oil in Europe was imported from USA.
