These tips was my main problems that i was messing with mixing instead of thinking which elements should have its own place. Specially kick tips u mentioned its super amazing solution
Damn man, once again!! Thanks for the tipp about changing the kick, it seems simple but it changed a production I was doing entirely and now it's 95% finished. MERCI !!
hey zen i have a problem with balancing my mix and filling woth atmosphere, sounding fat. and the loudness. can u suggest me something? I have good quality but not that pro quality of Armada spinnin and etc
Another idea about the piano and bass is to make the piano really thin, like with a cabinet or a distant atmosphere. I mean if you would have a bassline that sounds really good with the transients to it, like a acoustic bass or something like that :)
Funny, when you roasted my track (Beluga) a few days ago, the main issues were too much stereo in middle tones and too much reverb. Glad to know that even you make the same mistakes.
beep beep. Your content is dope AF man, and we appreciate the fact that you drop longer vids full of knowledge. A tutorial on making THIS kind of song would be fire.
Yes. The fact that you could have too much low end only occurred to me lately. I was having trouble with the track going into a limiter and it not sounding right and not even getting too much loudness from it! Just putting a low shelf on the master solved it! And it also made me realize how "little" bass there actually is in professional mixdowns (I mean it's still there but it's balanced).
There's this production duo from South Africa who go by the name of DNA. You should definitely check out their music if you like this ambient/deep progressive sound.
I too LOVE the natural stuff. You should check out "camp summerdaze" in Canada. Right up your alley. Next time you have a "send me your music" I'll send a track I'm working on "walkabout"
Hey thanks for the video! I learn a lot with your content!! I just have a question: On the final tip, I see that u have an "eq eight" on your master channel that is boosting up your lows, how does it affect the final result? Is it worthy to also turn it off to compare your track with and without the master rack on?
Protcol in the background is your thing ha? :D Keep Up Bro, your Presets instantly kicked me to the next level. Sadly your doing less techno stuff, but just do your thing man, you're feeling way more confident with this more organic/ambient vibe sound. :)
As always a lot of Valuable information. Not sure if this goes for mixing but I can tell that if you remove some stereo information with side eq from your highs, the mix sounds way more defined and clean in a way. After I saw that video on your Instagram that blew my mind the most for like the past two days. Reworked almost every track because of that lol. In general I find people use side eq way to less. You can really tighten up things that way. Or remove resonate frequencies without cutting the mids and making it sound different. Or muddy. Or whack. Or spaghetti.
@@dopesensi so depends on what software you're using. In FL there is no internal side eq as far as I know. So u could use fabfilter pro q 3 for example and change the mode from stereo to mid, or well side. In ableton the stock eq offers that function. Yellow button to get to the side eq. Then reduce unwanted frequencies. Hope I could help u
So you lower your high frequencies on the sides? This is funny cause i always boost mine, i think it makes the track sound bigger and brighter, so i love how important is to know how to use the tools so we can make each track to our own taste! ^^
@@matheusnascimento4575 oh wow. Maybe I'm wrong but I think I've seen it before and it was suggested that way. Guess it depends what the track needs ofc
Bro you are more present in my life than my father thank you for improving my days with your knowledge! I'm grateful for everything I've been learning😆
@@RigelSounds It would be a mental good business move if he did get them on Splice. Perhaps once Zen establishes himself as a solo act rather than staying underground as a ghostie
You are doing good job! I’m a big fan of your channel. All your movies helped me a lot, especially those about techno. Keep doing such good job! Greetings from Sweden
Reply to; @Nik, a very good answer! I wanted to address many of those same things but must admit that I was too lazy to write a novel today. 😂, but Nik definitely has some very good and correct (IMO at least) suggestions to make that track work better. The melody is beautiful so it should absolutely be mixed better! And maybe released? But some things I’d like to add are that it's not only the reverb that makes you feel the depth. Eq and level also play a vital part. Like if you eq something bright it sounds more ”in your face” while eq’ing it darker pushes it more back. And the level also plays a role in how you feel the depth. I would also say, as Nik said it too just in a different way, that you have to make a decision of what is going to be the lowest (bass) part. I know it's a cliche but only one element can be the deepest! So it might sound like a terrible idea to cut let's say the bass and the synth bass at 120Hz but try it and you might hear something that blows your mind. I learned this way too late in my mixing career (I have a story on that but that must wait until another time), but a very good and well-known mixer and mastering person told me how to do this when I was interning at his studio. And for last: play that song in mono and hear if it sounds good? It must sound good in mono! And if it sounds good in mono it will sound fantastic in stereo. But remember that most clubs have PA systems that are only in mono. And you don't want the song to sound one way if you are standing on the right side of the room and another way if you are standing on the left side of the room. I apologize for my bad English but it isn't my primary language. Anyway, I hope I could help a little bit. You are a very charismatic guy and have a lot of followers so I guess you want to teach them as best as possible. Kindest regards from Oslo. (That’s in Norway btw, lol but many Americans have no clue where Oslo is. 😂) 🇳🇴🇳🇴🇳🇴
Love you Zen! These tips are absolutely relevant to me right now, and also i'll be waiting for the turkey here in Brazil, happy thanksgiving and keep it coming! ^^
I guess if u want to prevent Phase Cancellation when you play it on Mono Speakers and Kick and Bass are the most important elements in your track and they are low frequency instruments so I think they would be more prone for Phase Cancellation. Just my assumption could be for a totally different reason Im just assuming what it could be.
Amity totally depends on what kind of music and vibe youre going for, as far as dance music goes i would say yes, but that is not set in stone. I think you should experiment and test out as much as youd like :)
Open some of your favourite quality tracks in the DAW and play it's only side component using any MS encoder plugin (e.g. Voxengo MSED, it's free). So you'll hear is the kick (or any other instrument) completely in mono or not
When you get leading tones that are way above the rest like with the piano; the best thing you can do is dampen the frequencies with a narrow cut then saturate it to bring out the frequencies around it. This will give a more natural feel then just lowering the volume. You want the sound loud still. Just not peaking too high.
Why don't you layer the kicks , using the top end and click from the new track, and the body and sub from the old. Would be something I would do when I can't decide between kicks .
awesome vid as usual..i was wondering if you could do a vid on how to fix your final mastering ..i use ozone with a master assistant and end up using loudness penalty to 0 ..and when im finished my track still sounds too low !!! help please !!
Jason Green make sure your frequencies are roughly equal in Span - low and high should be roughly the same with low miss. Then try ozone. It's usually one frequency standing out that makes ozone not work properly .
Jason Green keep eq ing out any stick out frequencies until ozone makes it loud. Use the "streaming" setting in ozone to test your levels and after that use another setting - preset or use a similar commercial track.
Hello my friend I can not do Any More for the ride on Tab In Good working properly problemen computer anymore Efteling is broken because someone Else outside is broken pc
The bass totally disappeared on my phone when you low passed it so low .. maybe try waves maxxbass it will give you bass upper harmonics with out the mud 💯
Still need to eq ofc but yeah. Saturation and a notch filter near the mids to prevent muddiness but capture the bass’ high end. Probably already know but keep it up fellow producer
hahaha when you said you cleaned your ear with a q tip that had me dead bro i don't know why i was laughing for like 10 minutes but my friend said never use q tips to clean ur ears but i still do hahaha
yeah, but when you mix, you change a lot and you gain a lot of room, which will be filled by your elements - which makes them louder than you thought they were before :) If you listen to the version were he started, those things were just subtle fixes. This is very normal i think. I allways have these problems after gain staging, panning and effect-mixing
The techno beard takes your production up a notch
You have great character for genuinely sharing these information for free.

Use reverb on the piano during the verses. Take it off or use less to add punch and clarity in the chorus
