Well, I have to say I honestly enjoyed that video. Sure, you didn't find anything of significant value, but the dive itself was very relaxing. It kind of reminded me of what I tell people when they ask why I ride my motorcycle to nondescript or boring places: why not go to more exciting places? I just tell them, riding a motorcycle isn't always about what you find at the other end, it's more about the ride to get there. Maybe you'll find that treasure next time, Mish. Either way, I'm looking forward to your next adventure.
That is the perfect analogy! The fun is definitely in the adventure itself. I'm learning so much with each and every dive, so its great to be able to bring people along on that journey with me. Thanks so much :)
Yep the BBS technology certainly can find lead in a hostile saltwater environment....but it's extremely good at finding gold as well providing it's there! Thanks for the video
Thanks Brian! 😁 I was actually quite surprised to not find at least one coin here, given the typical usage of the area… but the lead is still good to find and remove. I’m well overdue for some of the yellow stuff. Cheers mate 😄

What an excellent underwater video Mish!! You’re so lucky it’s so clear! But I bet you are ready for your summer to warm the waters up!! Well done! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
This is a delightful little spot to play in, Ally - though I must admit, I did expect to see at least a few coins in here! More than ready for Summer... I can't wait to have the dive hood off at some point, I don't like them much. 😂 Cheers!!
Hello from East Tennessee, USA. That was amazing. Who cares if you only found sinkers. The water was so clear and peaceful. The relics and coins are out there for you to find and you will find them. It’s getting colder here so it should be getting warmer there. I think. Keep the videos coming and I’ll be watching.
Hi Steve! Thanks so much for your lovely comment, I was shocked I didn’t find any coins on this day as it was a swimming area. Luck of the draw, I guess. Definitely starting to warm here but still cold - water is in the high 50’s now. Cheers!
Thanks a bunch! I was so hesitant to publish this video, sadly the diving ones are never as well received but we all have to start somewhere I guess. Cheers 😄
So jealous!! In a month I might be able to ditch the hood, and maybe even change to a lighter suit but for now I need to stay completely covered or I’ll freeze 🥶 but that’s why the finds here aren’t as amazing, few are brave enough to swim here outside of summer. Cheers!
Thank you Pat, I love this little spot. It is relatively protected from the surf breaks, and so the clarity is usually pretty good. Always happy to remove the lead! Cheers. 😊
There’s absolutely heaps of shells in the reefs where I go, the rocks protect them from being tumbled into dust. You can pretty much dig a scoop anywhere in this area and pull up some amazing shells. 😁🐚
Glad you enjoyed it Deb. That was my angle with this one - if I don't have amazing finds, I can at least try to make a relaxing video of the day. Cheers :)
Howdy Mish, Thanks for putting out the video. I absolutely loved it. Would have given it two thumbs up if I could. The flounders, sting ray and baby fish were all really cool as was the plant life. You are as colorful and pretty as a tropical fish yourself down there. Stay safe and happy, Mish.
I’m glad you liked it, Roelf! There’s always something to see out in the reefs, and I’m getting a little better at capturing those moments each time. 😊 I’m so excited for warmer and calmer conditions in the months ahead. Cheers mate. 😊
That was a very relaxing video...the ocean life...the movement of the currents...the chill music...sweet! The lead can be saved up, melted and made into dive weights or whatever you choose. Have you considered diving around marinas / ports? People drop a lot of things getting on and off of boats. I suppose you already thought of that though. Anyway well done. Keep up the great work...cheers!
G'day there mate! That's the thing I love about diving - even if there's no good targets, there's always something peaceful and beautiful to look at, it is so great for the mental health. I'd love to do those sorts of dives as well, but a diver needs to be mighty careful around water craft - so I hope I can find a suitable location in time. Cheers!
Even if you only found weights it was a great learning experience. It was an awesome video as well. The flounders and stingray were cool. Have a great weekend and happy hunting.
Thanks Starry, the thing I like about underwater hunting is that even if the decent targets are few and far between, there's always something cool to look at. The flounders are awesome - and so well camouflaged! Cheers :)
Thank you Walter, that’s the plan - I’ve even got the mold sitting here, I just haven’t put together the protective gear to get started. There’s a massive tub of lead waiting for me to get started. Cheers!!
You mean I couldn't take you diving at a place for weir-y travellers? Ha ha. No worries at all mate, I go here to get away from everyone anyway. I've still got to tell you that 1910 story sometime, I'll see if I can get some pics this afternoon. Cheers mate :)
Mish - I have seen some people use a harness and strap the Minelab head unit to the small of their back, and just use the end stick with the coil for detecting under water. This would make the weight on the arms much less. This would also be less cumbersome when fanning a target. Another plus would be you are closer to the target area when you get a signal, which would mean you would be less likely to 'lose' a target.
Thanks mate, I contemplated a hip mount but I feel it would be more of a risk with damaging the cables when putting the detector aside. I’ve changed to a carbon shaft since this video which is working rather nicely as a full size detector (very similar to Nora Svet & Michael Oliver’s setups) - haven’t used it in the dive configuration yet 😄 cheers!
@@DirtFishMish I love stingrays they are so cool. We ended up feeding them over a year ago. Kind of felt like feeding birds at the park. They are super chill.
Hi Mish, it looked like it was a good day to be in the water. You are cleaning up the sinkers. I watched another detector who attached a pool noodle to her scoop handle with zip ties to help it float, I'm not sure how well that worked for her, because she didn't show it floating. Maybe a section or two of a pool noodle attached to part of your detector handle would help take some of the weight off. Take care. John
Thanks John! The Excal isn’t so bad when it’s underwater, the weight actually becomes beneficial with moving it about. That said, I upgraded the shaft shortly after filming this to a carbon one so you’ll see it in future videos 😄 cheers mate.
Loved it Mish!! This is something I want to get into as well. I've seen people mount the controller and battery to a belt and then you can wear it taking the weight off the shaft. Just not sure how it's done though.
Thanks mate! I did contemplate hip mounting the excal, but I think I like the control pod on the shaft underwater as it helped with the momentum of the swing. I've since changed to a carbon shaft setup which changes the alignment slightly (very similar to Nora Svet and Michael Oliver's setups now) so I look forward to diving with that soon :) Cheers.
Great Job Mish!! You may not have been on the silver, but you were killing the lead 😂. New dive belt anyone 😊. You do look like you are becoming more comfortable with the new dive gear. Keep up the great content, stay safe and GOD Bless
Thank you George! I really must start smelting down some lead for weights, I’ve almost got all the gear for that now as well. Diving and detecting is quite a learning curve when doing it safely (pre-planning for emergencies), but I am excited for the learning journey. Cheers!!

So much fun, but lots to learn about body coordination and buoyancy when swinging underwater! The jury is still out on nox vs Excal - but that said, I’ll be using the Excal underwater from now on as it is better built for constant immersion. Cheers mate 😊
Great video Mish, I came across your page on Mer Man Mike’s page. Are you breathing with that float above you? Dose it work well? Does it feel like a scuba tank? I only snorkel right now, but would love to stay down longer. You have such a beautiful location there, the water is so clear. Looking forward to more videos.
Hi there and welcome to my channel, I just love watching Merman Mike's videos, they're always so cheery and positive. :) Yes, that's correct - the unit is called a Blu3 Nemo. The air intake is at the top of the dive flag, and when I inhale my regulator sends a signal to the compressor to operate and pump air to me (which is why you only hear it when I breathe in, this makes it super efficient for battery life). It's super convenient as I don't have to have a scuba tank filled afterwards. My original unboxing video is here and it talks a little bit about the features: ruclips.net/video/63Rn1j6-Y_E/видео.html And they're available here if you wanted to read the full specs (also note that they have a new 'Nomad' model out now, which can go 3x the depth!): www.diveblu3.com/shop?wpam_id=79 I'll be bringing out more water comment as the ocean warms up, nearly Summer here in Australia! Cheers. :)
G'day Wayne! Yeah, my tub of lead weighs more than I do at the moment (and considering how much I've put on this past year with all the staying at home, that's an impressive feat 🤣). I bought a mold for dive weights, but haven't gotten to pouring any yet. The Excal is really smooth to swing underwater, but there's a lot to learn with regard to maintaining an even balance while doing so. It's a fun journey! Cheers mate.
Hi there! This video is a few years old now but looking at it, it looks like I used the short shaft that day. I then switched it to an Anderson carbon fibre shaft for a while but no longer own this machine as it was too heavy for my needs. I do miss the sounds, it was a lovely machine to listen to. Cheers!
Right on Mish, Won't be long and you will be melting and pouring some dive weights. We, metal detectorists are some of the only folks that remove lead from the environment. I think about how minute amounts of lead harm developing children and it seems to me that all that lead decaying in the water has got to be harming fish and wildlife in general. So, I really feel good every time I pull a fishing sinker out of the bottom. Good Job Mish! Smiling, George. ( have you chosen any favorite settings yet? )
Hello and thanks, George! I've now got a sizeable supply of lead, the mold to pour it into... and that's about as far as I've progressed with that. 😂 I think you're right - all of that lead in such a concentrated form can't be good for the environment. Settings -- I'm sticking with disc on 1, auto sensitivity, volume fairly high, threshold barely audible and (mostly) disc mode for the foreseeable future, it seems to do the job. Cheers!!
@@DirtFishMish settings like this, found a gold shirt button with the fleur design ( dutch) from the early 1700's and it was over a foot deep in oyster shells and clay bottom in five feet of salt water... My excal stays tuned like this most of the time. Mish, it is fun having you as a detecting friend. Smiling, George.
@@trimbaker1893 that’s fantastic, and I will keep your note about the sensitivity in mind when I get to the stage of experimenting more with the settings. Cheers 😁
Thanks Anita, I was actually in a swimming location 😂 but where I live is quite cold so there’s usually more fishermen than swimmers down here. It’s all good, I like to remove the lead from the ocean and it can be repurposed for dive weights too 😊 thank you for watching! 😁
Sadly this is rather typical of the amount of lead I find at my beaches - many, many years of fishing means that they are everywhere! I’ve removed more than my body weight in lead just this year. 💔
I'm pleased to report that there are actually a lot of fish in this area - I was sticking to shallow spots that humans like to swim in, but if I were to head 100ft further out towards the ocean I would've found lots more marine life. Cheers :)
Sorry, just clarifying - do you mean you're not interested in watching if the videos just contain finds like sinkers? 😊 If so, fair enough, I understand that they're not for everyone. I try to make the treasure-less hunts obvious in their titles, so that no-one feels I've clickbaited them :) Cheers.
@@DirtFishMish Now I know you can't predict what you are going to find ahead of time, but since you gave a spoiler alert, this is where I went instead. You are just as cute and even more so. Hasta mañana. ruclips.net/video/00GLs8ExHiM/видео.html

The excal loves those lead stinkers. Keep it and sell them though they are worth $2 a kilo
Yep, I keep all my lead scrap for sure. Cheers mate :)
Ghost fish!😂😂😂😂
Mish , you go girl !
You must have a small fortune in lead at home.
How did you like the feel of the Excal under water ?
G'day Wayne! Yeah, my tub of lead weighs more than I do at the moment (and considering how much I've put on this past year with all the staying at home, that's an impressive feat 🤣). I bought a mold for dive weights, but haven't gotten to pouring any yet. The Excal is really smooth to swing underwater, but there's a lot to learn with regard to maintaining an even balance while doing so. It's a fun journey! Cheers mate.
I love you I love you I love you Mish❤️❤️❤️😘😘😘
LOL came out of the water 50kg heavier than when you went in. That's a lot of lead.
It certainly felt that way lol, I definitely noticed the change in buoyancy over the length of the dive! Cheers. :)
Hi Mish, I have a question about the Excalibur you're using in this video. Are you using the long shaft or the short shaft for this dive?
Hi there! This video is a few years old now but looking at it, it looks like I used the short shaft that day. I then switched it to an Anderson carbon fibre shaft for a while but no longer own this machine as it was too heavy for my needs. I do miss the sounds, it was a lovely machine to listen to. Cheers!
@@DirtFishMishthanks for the reply. I know you took a break from RUclips and detecting. Now I see you switched to the Deus for underwater detecting.
another goodun Mish
Cheers!!
@@DirtFishMish same here but I use sensitivity between 6/7
@@DirtFishMish each beach and each set of ears and brain are unique and truly, what works is best. Smiling, George.
Cheers 😁
You might be better of going to a river local swimming hole to find some good stuff instead of sinkers good video it feels good swimming in the ocean
Thanks Anita, I was actually in a swimming location 😂 but where I live is quite cold so there’s usually more fishermen than swimmers down here. It’s all good, I like to remove the lead from the ocean and it can be repurposed for dive weights too 😊 thank you for watching! 😁
Beautiful. Lead :(
Sadly this is rather typical of the amount of lead I find at my beaches - many, many years of fishing means that they are everywhere! I’ve removed more than my body weight in lead just this year. 💔
❤️
So many sinkers and so few fish :(
I'm pleased to report that there are actually a lot of fish in this area - I was sticking to shallow spots that humans like to swim in, but if I were to head 100ft further out towards the ocean I would've found lots more marine life. Cheers :)
👏👏👏👏👏👏👌👌👌👌
Not for fishing sinkers.
