Also, more on topic, this unit is fantastic. If you are a new-ish driver and you are trying to learn how to get faster this might be the best out there. It's MEGA simple to use.
That was my biggest thing. I don't think having to fumble around with the data from an Aim Solo was going to help me improve. I'm sure it has it's uses when you get into the nitty gritty, but I'll tackle that when I get there.
It can help you become more consistent (and thus faster to some extent), but it can't tell you what to do what you aren't doing already. It will pick up if you do something better than usual *by accident* and help you make it your new norm, but some things it just won't discover. Personally for me, the last couple of seconds of lap time improvements came after I started reviewing brake pedal data, and fine-tuning what I do with my feet. Unfortunately Catalyst doesn't have pedal data, so it would have taken me a lot longer to figure out the problem if I only had the Catalyst.
How did you mount it using the flat 4 hole mount? Did you need to supply your own hardware? I don't see the hardware included in the Garmin catalyst kit provided.
Everything power-wise is stock on my car currently. I've only modified the suspension, wheels/tires, brakes, seats, and a catback. 170 whp 141 tq on a dynojet.
Will this work for when im making deliveries for dominos? Coming out of corners quicker, braking later rather than sooner? I’d like to be faster but my statefarm safe and save detects my speed/cornering/braking 🗿
Unfortunately not 😢 next event I'll be at is Autobahn, then Mid-Ohio and then RA. Gonna need to probably pick your brain on those FA coils if I want to be competitive in TA.
Nice video! Only thing I would suggest is not to mount the Catalyst where you have it under the dash unless you have it wired to a n external GPS antenna. It needs to be on the windshield so that it picks up the GPS satellite signal, thereby giving more accurate data and satellite downloading There are some excellent Catalyst RUclips videos on the Speed Secrets YT Channel. There is one video ruclips.net/video/pTyQqVLCdn4/видео.html with a couple of the Garmin folks explaining how the hardware works. Its genius! Its not how one would think it works. I've got mine on the way and plan to give it it's first runs at Thunderhill and Buttonwillow next month.
My coils are pretty stiff and that track is also not in the best condition after being flood twice. I may make some suspension tweaks throughout this season.
Two years later… I thank you for this video 🙏
Thanks for the rundown! Considering getting this
Any time!
Thanks for the info

Awesome video man. I tried the ApexPro, but I think I'm gonna grab one of these next.
You won't be disappointed! I've thoroughly enjoyed using it so far!
Looking great, I might get it on July 4th. I hope they have a good amount of discount.
Garmin itself might not have good discounts on it, but check other retailers that are dealers for good deals.
@@KevinVo 5 - 10% will be enough for me haha. I hope I can find one. Thanks for videos!

I did need to use my own hardware.
does this require and OBD2 and/or a separate GPS unit?
Nope it is all built in!
What headers do you use? Also curious to know how much whp/torque your car makes

Absolutely, it'll plug straight into the safe and save and override it!
Just picked mine up..I instruct (10 years) so this should be interesting..
Let me know how you like it!
Thanks for the video. Are you able to transfer videos from the Catalyst to RUclips?
Yes, you can absolutely transfer the videos onto your computer and then upload them to RUclips.
@@KevinVo Thank you so much for your reply. I will place an order now.
Sick! I'd totally get one if my closest track wasn't a plane ride away...
One day!
What camera are you using to capture track video hooked to the Garmin?
The Garmin Catalyst comes with it's own camera.
Is there anyway to run it without the camera?
No, it won't run without it.
@@KevinVo Thank you!
Coming to Gingerman? Ready to throw down with my BRZ?

I'm down to clown. You need to check out my new FA520s I just got ;)
Me: so cool I want one!
Looks at price...$999 USD
Me: oof
It definitely took a chunk out of my wallet 😅

HOTLAP is also a very powerful app that's free for android and apple devices.
That's not something I've tried before. I'll look into it!
Your car is a Subaru
Jesus your coils are bouncy. You're loosing a ton of laptime due to your lack of compliance alone.
