- Nirvana recording a demo of Spank Thru prior to there first album Bleach.
Date recorded: January 23rd, 1988
Kurt Cobain on vocals and guitar, Krist Novoselic on bass and Dale Crover on drums.
Dave Grohl would later replace Chad Channings on drums.
"Spank Thru" is a Fecal Matter song and, according to Krist Novoselic, the first ever Nirvana song. It was first recorded for the Illiteracy Will Prevail demo in December 1985. Another studio version, rerecorded with Chad Channing on drums, was released in 1988 on a vinyl LP box set of bands on the Sub Pop label. The box set was called Sub Pop 200. The 3xEP box set was released in December 1988. CD versions were first released in 1990 and there are three versions of Sub Pop's American CD.

Best version of Spank Thru!!! 310 likes and zero dislikes!!! lets keep it that way!!!
This is an awesome song.
Yes,Dale is my favorite Nirvana drummer, and Chad Channing, too, and not to forget Dave Foster
Fun fact: Kurt Cobain played guitar left handed, but wrote with his right hand.
JOY DIVISION he also drummed with the Ringo Starr style
There's 100% likes...that's hope for this planet
awesome man love it
Dale Crover bangs!
This version is fucking cool, that scream.
Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaah!
This should’ve been on Bleach
great track
I hope Jack Endino can somehow get Geffen to release this version officially, he’s the one who recorded and mixed it after all! I think the live in Rome version is the best official release available of this song, and then the Sun Pop 200 version and finally the Fecal Matter version on the Sliver Box Set.
i have this song on vynil theres some other subpop demos on there too :)
"vynil"
My favorite version of this song ever. Should have been the Bleach opener!
@guilhermecarneiro1 that is a cracking set of recordings, i love dale crover
Not many people know but this song is actually about a member of hawkwind
This one sounds more like a Melvins song (probably because of Dale) and the later version sounds more like a mudhoney version.
it does not sound like a mudhoney version. I saw dan peters play with nirvana at the motorsports garage. & you know Dale rocks !
@macc305 congratulation you know recognize a bass!
no suga tonight in my coffee no sugar tonight in my tea!!! lol jus kidding
@ToxicityGuitar YEAH, THAT COMMENT ITS KIND OF OLD, AND IT WAS STUPID
Why was the Outcesticide release sped up to standard tuning? And who mastered this?
The live at Reading version is better than any recording
Disagree, listen to Rome concert, 1991
How can I buy this song?
was he playing right handed?
just a image flip most likely. kurt wrote right handed but always played guitar/bass as a lefty.
