I like the implications that every region having electric rodents creates. It means that bird pokemon are such prevalent predators for rodent pokemon that species with electric powers have a significant advantage over others. And electric cheek pouches are just an efficient way of doing that. Think about it. Even rattata can learn electric attacks.

Electricity can't be used to defend against electric birds so Pawmot opted to grow so big and heavy that bird pokemon no longer view it as viable prey. Fun to think about isn't it?

I live in CA and in high school I had an exchange student friend from Norway, every time we walked by a squirrel she would freak out in excitement. Apparently the only squirrels they have in Norway r red squirrels, which r incredibly endangered and therefore very rare.
"But at least Emolga is a flying squirrel." I was bitten by a flying squirrel that got into my bedroom once. We had to keep it and monitor it for a couple weeks to make sure it didn't have rabies. Should've named him Emolga. XD
Did you at least get your rabies shots? even if the flying squirrel seemed fine over the few weeks, you should ALWAYS go get the shots or the booster if you are ever bit by a wild animal.
Emolga's Japanese name is actually エモンガ Emonga (eh-moan-ga) because it comes from 衣紋 emon (clothes/drapery). For some reason they changed the n to an l in English only. If you listen to the Japanese anime you can hear its cry where it goes "emon emon" and it sounds so much better.
If I had to take a guess for the change, it may be because the term “Mong” is an…unfortunate insult used by some people in the UK directed towards those with certain disabilities. Unsure how commonly it’s used nowadays, but can definitely recall the term being used in the past. If so, that’d make 2 Pokemon in Gen 5 with unfortunate words in their names, considering the reason Cofagrigus cannot be used online without giving it a nickname. At least they caught one before releasing the games.
Thinking about how Emolga was kickstartes the trend of all the Pikachu clones being dual types, I think if Pachirisu was dual typed, it’d be Electric/Ice. Mainly since it has a white and cyan color scheme Also I think Emolga and Pachirisu would fit as version exclusive counterparts

Pachirisu always low-key reminded me of a city in Illinois called Olney. Turns out they have a bunch of white/albino squirrels running around and they're kinda the town mascots.
From an Ecology point of view, the Pikachu clones are very interesting. All of them have electric cheek pouches to store electricity, which means that these pouches a proven evolutionary advantage in the Pokemon world. No matter the region, these varied rodent-esque pocket monsters developed the SAME effective electric-based defense mechanism against predators. It so cool!
I always thought Pachirisu was an ice type, due to the blue colour scheme and spikes that looked like icicles. Imagine my surprise when I discovered it was a pure-electric, non-evolving, terrible base-stat total, Pika-squirrel

2:43 OK so, in Chile, we have this rodent called "degu" which is also known as the Chilean squirrel. However, squirrels are from the Sciuridae family, while the degu is from the Octodontidae family. So, technically not an actual squirrel. Otherwise, we don't have squirrels as far as I'm aware. We have beavers tho, they were introduced and now they are pests.

I love Pachirisu and I can’t even tell why. I think gen 4 just has a special place in my heart. I followed it all throughout development, learned all the Japanese names before the English ones were revealed
7:00 I know it's technically a mispronunciation, but because of the kind of Southern accent I have I've always pronounced it like uh-mohl-guh. In my opinion it's a bit better sounding since all the syllables roll together more.
Hey, Pachirisu is my favourite Pikachu clone (and not just because it's a competitive beast, though having the Pickup ability is really useful when grinding), but because it's just so freaking cute. Dawn's Pachirisu even chased its own tail like a kitten. It's certainly a much cuter squirrel Pokemon than Skwovet in my opinion (you wanna talk about Pachirisu being "Just a Pikachu squirrel", at least it's a squirrel+ something. Skwovet is literally just a generic grey squirrel.) I also like Emolga too. A fun detail I noticed is that when you look at it's back sprite, the all black round head and ears make it kind of resemble a very iconic American cartoon mouse, doesn't it? The white on its face also seems to line up with that.
I honestly prefer to call the Pikachu clones the "Pika cousins", since Pachurisu is confirmed to be a cousin of Pikachu, so I figured every other electric rodent with electric cheek sacs could be part of the Pikachu lore.

I think something about it's design and the light blues and yellows for colours appeal to me a lot more than the stark black, white and yellows of emolga.. and yeah, even Pachirisu's name is a lil more fun to say. xD ..cool to learn the different potential origins of these mon though.

7:00 I know it's technically a mispronunciation, but because of the kind of Southern accent I have I've always pronounced it like uh-mohl-guh. In my opinion it's a bit better sounding since all the syllables roll together more.

Hey, Pachirisu is my favourite Pikachu clone (and not just because it's a competitive beast, though having the Pickup ability is really useful when grinding), but because it's just so freaking cute. Dawn's Pachirisu even chased its own tail like a kitten. It's certainly a much cuter squirrel Pokemon than Skwovet in my opinion (you wanna talk about Pachirisu being "Just a Pikachu squirrel", at least it's a squirrel+ something. Skwovet is literally just a generic grey squirrel.)
I also like Emolga too. A fun detail I noticed is that when you look at it's back sprite, the all black round head and ears make it kind of resemble a very iconic American cartoon mouse, doesn't it? The white on its face also seems to line up with that.
Unova does have a movie production studio. What's to say they don't have their own version of Disney with an Emolga as their mascot?
My experience with squirrels is that my pet cats would destroy them and bring what remains to the door as a gift!
