Funny how I thought even RUclips couldn’t spring on us a clip of him playing this. How could you ever tire of watching it. Hypnotic finger picking, poetic as they get and the chorus is achingly sublime before the main figure comes back in magically to say the least. He does seem to be enjoying it a bit too much. Very suspicious.
First time I remember ever listening to Roy Harper. I think life does last a while, I'll space out the goodness. Every now and then something that brings delight is just right. Just right.
+mikethenumber1 I don't think he's high. He might be, but for playing intricate guitar and sing at the same time, one can look intoxicated where it's in fact pure concentration.
I can assure you that he spent most of the '70s stoned, but never affected the quality of his playing - just the lengths of the rambling monologues between songs! Brilliant musician - saw him on many occasions. True to say he was largely ignored at the time...
Nah. He’s deffo mashed 😁 The tell-tale red-ringed eyes and the slow turn to camera with narcotic grin.....I think he asked for a spliff at a gig I was at....and was duly obliged. A staggeringly talented hombre.
Roy's fingerpicking has rarely been matched. When you consider he also had one hell of a voice and his lyrics were pure poetry, you have inarguably the most egregiously ignored artist from the 70s, at least in the USA...
Yeah, I've seen Roy playing and singing live at least 20 times. First time back in 1986, I think. The Gardner Centre at Sussex University. Interesting how he fingerpicks so close to the bridge
Honestly, I've been practicing this song for more than 4 years and still can't seem to nail it properly. The bit itself is quite easy when you play it apart from singing. But to entwine it all together keeping up with all the little subtleties is just painful. The hardest song that I play and practice.
@@nigelthompson5279 I could write a mass about that gig but the most memorable thing was that it was the only time I saw him play the under-rated "Burn The World". I had to dig the live version out and am listening to it now!
Likewise, play it at my funeral as I'm off to a better place. This and several several other tracks (inc Hallucinating Light) have been the sound track to my life since being introduced to RH in the early 70's. The playing is superb, but the words of this track bring me such solace. Another Day never fails to make me well up. Poetic genius at work.
Let's face it, Roy was simply the best. Been listening since '73.
Sublime ..one of his best I think- from the superb Valentine album.
Inspires me to play
"In the showering yellows of Autumn" This is a magical performance.
Somewhere out there with my heart in her care.
Some of the greatest finger picking guitarists regard Roy as the finest of all. Absolute genius. Iam (as always) in awe of this man's skill 🧙🏻♂️🌻❤️
This man changed my life. Pure art.
Sublime, performance.
Poetic, imagery, coupled with, great playing, & lyrics.
Bloody wonderful! Timeless, really.Roy,has integrity
I'll say it again :Bloody, wonderful!!

On top of a stellar performance of a five star song the bugger's as wasted as hell and grinning beatifically on national TV.
Lord Stompy 😍😍 honey you're here 😍😍 I love you baby 💋
My son and I view this as yesterday's hangover trip.
This man changed my life too...immensly... hats off to Roy! I'll see you again by accident Roy... luv ya!
I'm too old to see him by accident or intentionally ..... but maybe I'll see him again.
i feel completely lost listening to Roys music, he takes me on a journey and i feel as if i understand him in some way..
I like that , I feel I understand him in some way so deep, it often hurts ✨️

A magician for sure 😊
I'm so glad I saw you live back in the day, magical.
how in the world is he able to play like that, sing at the same time and remember all the lyrics while being so high that he can hardly open his eyes?

mikethenumber1 I’ve actually been at this for a week now and it’s pretty easy once you have the alternate picking going
Exactly I bet he is but he's so good he can get away with it. And remember those words.

A staggeringly talented hombre.
Roy is a master on the guitar
Just love it and give a shit if he's stoned or not.
Hats off to Roy!
Brilliant performance of a classic harpersong. Btw Roy was as good at playing stoned as any of those Jamaican laddies.
Har...har
How can this have so few hits? Bloody wonderful.

@@nickhirst999 yes, I was there that evening . . . One of those days in England!

Play this and Hallucinating Light at my funeral and I'll be a happy corpse. It just doesn't get any better

@@davebarber3827 He has used dadgad many times but this is definitely standard tuning. I have played it as he does in standard tuning.
When he was a God
simply put this man is a genius..!😂
Yes we used to have music on earth till the big dumbing down
hats off
@Truemyshkin and the bastard writes beautiful memorable songs as well!
English country music... surely there is a mythical Nashville in the UK then Roy is there.
Brilliant, comment!
who is the thicko who put his thumb down?
Obviously he doesn’t know the meaning of genius
Probs just taking a rest from throwing stones at the moon....
Look at him, mocking me with his ability to finger pick! And his facial hair!! (Hides his hairless face from the light of day)
@petgerco What a jerk. (Grumbles and dinks around on his acoustic, attempting to write lyrics but failing)
