    I bought the Albion plans right after Jeff passed away. Now I wish I had bought the Seneca plans instead. It would use a small, solo boat much more than the larger size.

    Beautiful build sir. I always wonder why people think that a home build boat from plans by a designer might not float. I mean an inflated inner tube will float fine, why wouldn't a 14' well built boat? Best wishes for successful fishing and many days on the water.

      Thank you. The Tohatsu moters are actually made in Japan not China. They make pretty decent stuff including many of Mercury's outboards. So far so good. Should see its first salt water next week.

  • @davidhain2996

    In your video you said the plans for the transom called for 3/4 in plywood. The Plans I received shortly before Jeff passed calls for 1/2 in....same size boat. I wonder why. also, what degree of tilt, if any, does your transom have? My plans show a 14 degree angle which makes the planing of the top and bottom of the transom somewhat inconvenient. Lastly, for your trim wood, did you just take a wider board and cut it in the curved shape for the bow trim? Thanks... great job on your boat

    • @mikethedesertrat
      @mikethedesertrat  2 года назад

      You are correct. The plans do say 1/2" ply on transom. I used 3/4. And yes, the angle is 14 degrees. You want some angle for going in reverse and to deflect waves when idle. Yes, and the side caps i bought wider stock and cut it to a curve.

    • @mikethedesertrat

      I really wish I had kept better records. If i had to estimate the total cost of the boat build, including all wood, but excluding the trailer and motor, I'd say about $3000.

    Awesome build; what angles are the side of frames attached?

    • @mikethedesertrat
      @mikethedesertrat  2 года назад +1

      It depends on which frame. They change slightly for each one. That's what gives the boat its "lines".

    • @mikethedesertrat
      @mikethedesertrat  2 года назад

      As I recall I went there all prepared with plans, material recipes, a few printed "guidelines" from feds regarding weight limits, but they didn't ask for any of that. They just wanted to measure overall length. I filled out a form or two and that was it.

    You did not include a keel?! Any reason why not? Even smaller boats include a keel...

    • @mikethedesertrat
      @mikethedesertrat  11 месяцев назад

      The plans didn't call for it. It's a flat-bottom boat similar to a skiff or jon boat. Many don't have a keel.

  • @johngoodell2775
    @johngoodell2775 Год назад

    Those bunks dont look flat. I think you might find that those trailer bunks will cause damage to the bottom of your boat since that trailer is for a v-bottom. They need to be absolutely flat and well padded. ...and I would add another center bunk. Trailers can do a lot of damage to boats unless totally dialed in. Spira's design only has one center stringer so the bottom is vulnerable.

    • @mikethedesertrat
      @mikethedesertrat  Год назад

      So far no issues.

    • @johngoodell2775
      @johngoodell2775 Год назад

      @@mikethedesertrat well the wear marks wont be obvious when on the trailer since the bunks will cover the damage areas.

    • @mikethedesertrat
      @mikethedesertrat  Год назад +1

      @@johngoodell2775 It must be the perception of the video or something. They are flat to the boat. The trailer may accommodate a V-hull, but the bunk brackets swivel for adjusting the angle. It was adjusted at the beginning when I rebuild it. Still is fine.

    If you put the restrictor plate and ECU from a 20hp in the 9.9....Alakazam!!!.... You have a 20hp that still says it's a 9.9 on the cover. It can be done for a $100 if the Ebay ECU Gods smile on you.....Allegedly if you just remove the restrictor plate 9.9 becomes the 15hp without any further mods, but research any mod before you do it and decide for yourself 👍

Since then I travelled down river danube from kehlheim in germany to powerplant Djerdap II in Serbia/Romania, about 1500 kilometer in 4 parts. I use a 40hp Johnson 2stroke... If you want you can have a look at the video of 800 kilometres trough serbia in 2022. ruclips.net/p/PLBnz4AxV4eMdrJT37fk6pzh3d9znJ5kaH
