The detent spring is way too stiff on this design. I bought 2 and they were both too stiff. Fortunately, the design makes it very easy to yield out some of that interference. After opening it up and working on it I have to say the action is now one the best I have (and I have a lot of very good knives). Thanks for doing the disassembly video.
I like the look of it. The price leaves me cold. Cuts into my watch and fountain pen funds. Does anyone know how corrosion resistant M390 is in practical usage (wet environments, sweat, etc.)?
Practically stain proof in everyday usage - you'd have to do something like leave it in salt water for it to rust. As long as you aren't cutting lemons you don't even have to wipe it off.
Just picked up one of these and I love it. Knocked the rOZie out of my pocket...no easy task. Much slimmer than I thought, and the lock on mine is pretty easy to disengage [perfect tension actually]. The studs are a bit too big, dig into the thumb and are in the cutting path, and the clip is a little sharp in hand. Other than that it is a fantastic daily carry. Everyone should try one someday, well worth it.
Pricedid not surprise me as thats where every titanium and 390 knife from Bestec or Reate is coming lately. I love the design aesthetically. But I dont think Ill be picking one up.
Let me reiterate. Bestech.....I LOVE this knife! I WANT this knife! But....until it operates as smoothly as it looks, I'll content myself by watching YT videos about it. FIX IT or give it an Axis lock or lower the price to $120. Otherwise, I'm out.
@@davidmarshall7752 - like what? I know my Cold Steel Triad lock knives operate very smoothly and thumb flick with no problem. My rajah-3 is so smooth and light I can easily Spydy flick it as easily as a Para-military-2, no fancy inset ball required. And all my Triad knives close one handed easy peasy. The tonic seems to require more thought, effort and care to open and close. WHY? With this innovative inset ball equipped back lock, and $300! You'd think it would do it as well or better than any back lock style knife out there. Instead, it's a bit lumpy, bumpy, hokey and jokey. I REALLY want this knife but 8 months on I've yet to buy it. Bestech needs to drop the price to $120 or convert it to a usable Axis/cross bar lock. For $300 I just can't justify the action or the purchase of the knife even though I really, REALLY want it.
$300? No thanks. I like it and would definitely consider it at around $200-$225 but there are too many good options in the $200 +/- price range to spend 3 bills on this. I'd really like it in like 154CM for about $149.
The only reviewer who tells you if they got the knife free. That absolutely annoys me about reviewer's because obviously your going to like a free knife better then one you spent half your paycheck on 😂
I LOVE this knife but I won't buy it because of the hokey action. Cold Steel knives with the Triad back lock are as smooth as silk at a fraction of the cost. At $120 I'll overlook the clunky action. At $160 or up, NO WAY! Either fix the action or make it an Axis lock. Until then, I love looking at it but I won't buy it.
The price criticism seems odd. Is the build quality comparable to other $300 knives made in china or taiwan? If the answer is no then the bad makes sense, but just saying its a Ti handle knife with M390 blade made in china should be cheaper is kinda lazy.
@@just9911 Both those places are major sources for self published designs or collabs in this price range. Do you see significant difference in any way between knives made in Taiwan and China at the same price point?
For those wondering, this is an inside joke. Another deranged commenter said this on a video a number of months back (videos that had nothing to do with Spyderco or anything like that)
It's always great to see the Legend again on Utube. Shabazz is King.!
Noiiice. That ball bearing back lock engagement is genius. Big fan.

I Love the way you describe a way a knife works❤
That's a great looking knife, both of them. Good size too.
Spyderco needs to bring this detent enhancement to the native’s lock. Very cool
That's the best looking knife I've seen in a while. Do they make more reasonably priced versions? A 14c28 with micarta for $56?
No--- but there are still plenty on BHQ in at least five different covers.
Without Batman, crime has no punchline.
Nick have you seen the price on the Spyderco lil' temperance ? $176 on FRN , VG 10 and compression lock. 🤔
Such a cool knife & design!

Tends to be pretty high, maybe slightly better than s30/s35. It’s not lc200n, but it’s not m4 either.

Could you do an Asher knives review?

credit should be given to stan wilson for having come up with this detent backlock system first in his non-flipper flipper

Price seems OK for all of the positives.
make it a frontflipper with a more fidgety lock.

Alas, he does his best with limited time!
Waaaaaaay too many Chinese OEM's pricing like they're Reate when they are, in fact, NOT Reate.
And let's be real, most of Reate's stuff should not be Reate priced.

Extremely Underwhelmed for the price
$290!? Helllll naw.
